BROOKS

I told myself to calm down as I raised my hand and knocked.

Hopefully, I was wrong and this was just a meeting. Just work.

Just Stephan.

“Come in,” came his gruff voice from behind the door.

I stepped inside, shutting the door quietly behind me. He didn’t look up right away, just flipped a page in the document before him, his brow tight with focus.

I stood there, clutching the folder Betty had given me until he finally looked up.

“Status update. The resort,” he said, his voice clipped. “Where are we?”

I cleared my throat, walking forward and placing the file gently on his desk before beginning.

“We’ve locked in the proposed locations, and I’ve been coordinating with Venita to narrow down the final three,” I said, and he looked on. “She’s already reached out to the landscape firm you suggested, and she wants us to prepare concept pitches for the zoning committee by next Tuesday.”

He nodded once.

“Logistics?”

“I’ve drafted a preliminary timetable. If construction kicks off in Q4

BROOKS“Oh my God, Zadie!” Veiny suddenly squealed as soon as her eyes landed on us, lighting up like she’d just found a long-lost puppy. There’s that weird pet name again.Zadie.Before I could even blink, she was skipping— yes, actually skipping— toward us, tugging a very stiff, very silent Stephan behind her like he weighed nothing. My eyes flicked to Stephan. His face was carved from stone. Zero expression. Just ice. When his eyes flickered to mine, I looked away. Venita reached us, throwing her arms wide like she might actually launch herself at Zade. “Look at you! I haven’t seen you in a minute,” She gave a dramatic pout. “I missed you.”Zade’s smile was slow to form. And fake. So fake, it hurt to look at.“Hey, V,” he said, voice light, eyes not.Venita clutched his arm, ignoring the way he subtly tensed beneath her touch. “I was just telling Steph we should all do a family dinner again. It’s been so long! Right?”She looked up at him like he was supposed to agree.Stephan d

BROOKSThe bass was already thumping in my chest before I even reached the building.Outside, the line wrapped around the block—people laughing, dressed in glitter and leather, energy buzzing. I felt both underdressed and overdressed somehow. Then I saw the line.Crap.Zade hadn’t given me a ticket. He’d just said, “Come.”I was about to text him something dramatic like “Should I seduce security or…” when someone said, “Miss Brooks?”I looked up.A tall guy in all black, tight tee, earpiece, sunglasses at night—definitely not just another concertgoer—was watching me.“Uh… yeah?”“Zade said to bring you in.”Oh.I followed him through a side door, past the crowd and ticket scanners. A girl in fishnets gave me a death glare as I passed.Inside, it was louder. Dimmer. Cooler. He brought me up through a side corridor and into a sleek, roped-off section above the crowd, VIP, I guessed. The view was perfect, just as the lights dipped and the stage lit up.And then—The band came out.Or ra

  • MATED TO HER ALPHA STEPBROTHERS   38: Come In

BROOKSI was elbows-deep in reports about the new resort when my phone buzzed beside my keyboard.ZadeOutside. Don’t make me come in.Crap. Lunch.I sat up straight, blinking at the time on my screen. He’d actually come. I thought he was just being polite this morning, throwing out a casual "I’ll pick you up for lunch" without really meaning it. But no. Zade was outside. Right now.Not wanting to keep him waiting, I packed my things and was off. I found Zade parked just a few feet from the entrance, leaning against the side of his sleek black car like a scene out of a music video. Sunglasses still on. One hand in his pocket. The other was holding his phone.“You’re really out here,” I said, walking up to him.He pushed his shades up into his hair and smirked. “Told you I would be.”“I thought you were just saying that to be polite.”“I’m not polite.” He opened the door for me again like a damn gentleman. “You’re annoying.”“And hungry,” he added, glancing at me. “Come on. Let’s

BROOKSI was half-bent over my bag, fingers frantically digging for my lip gloss, when I heard someone call my name.“Brooks.”I looked up, squinting against the morning sun, and there he was.Zade.Leaning against a sleek, black sports car like he was born to be in a moody indie film. Dressed in his signature all black, sunglasses perched on his face in a simple swag.A small smile tugged at the corner of his lips.“Looking for treasure in there?” he asked, nodding at my bag.“Lip gloss, actually,” I huffed. “But treasure would be nice too.” I joked back and he gave a soft chuckle, pushed off the car, and opened the passenger door. “Come on,” he nodded towards the car. “I’ll drive you.”I blinked. “Wait, what?”“To work,” he said, like it was obvious. “You do still have a job, right?”My lips twitched. “Unfortunately.”I glanced behind me toward the driveway, half-expecting Stephan’s car to still be parked, but no surprise, it was gone. Again. He’d probably seen me coming down the

BROOKSI didn’t respond.I couldn’t.Because my heart was racing, my blood was humming, and there was a pulsing ache between my thighs that was already begging.Heath leaned forward and pressed his lips to mine.No teasing. No pretense. Just a full, claiming kiss. And I let him.Because pretending I didn’t want this? That was a lie I was tired of telling. So I kissed him back. Not shyly.I parted my lips and slid my tongue boldly into his mouth. The sound he made was somewhere between a growl and a groan, caught low in his throat. His hands gripped my ass—hard—palming the flesh and dragging me down harder against his bulge. The friction made my head spin.I moaned into his mouth, breath hitching. He took full advantage. His tongue shoved back into my mouth, all dominance and raw hunger, tasting me, owning me, controlling the pace. One hand stayed firm on my ass, holding me in place, while the other gripped my waist as he rolled his hips beneath me.The zipper of his pants caught perf
