LOGINTHIRD PERSON'S POV
Aiden. No! No! No! She pinched herself until it hurt as the footsteps drew closer. Karla abandoned all the training her father had taught her. How to stay calm in every situation so she could come out on top. To be fair, she had been doing that before that pleasant, horrible smell. She grabbed the bars and shook them loudly, hoping they would somehow give way so she could escape. Zeal was not helping matters, she whimpered in pleasure and chanted for her mate. Had she seriously forgotten what he had put them through these past three days? Karla wondered in frustration. He was the reason they were in so much pain and starving too. How did he even manage to find her? She was far away from Blue Moon Pack. What did the moon goddess have against her? All these questions raced in her mind. She realized that there was nothing she could do in this moment other than to try to get as far away as possible, so she drew to the back of the cage, ready to attack him. To her greatest surprise, the person that strolled up to her was the last person she ever thought she would see ever again. "Ace?" She whispered and pinched herself again, hoping desperately that this would not be a dream. Even though the two men were identical twins, she had never mixed one up for the other. So she was definitely sure that her best friend was the one standing in front of her. He was also the one that Zeal was eager to get her hands on. Ace was her mate? How was this even possible? She was still reeling from the pain Aiden had caused her, and now she had another mate? Not any other person? Ace? Ace, on the other side of the bar, was going through his own shock and confusion, too. Like Karla, he had recognized her instantly. Yes, it had been years since he last saw her, and she was haggard and tired, but he still recognized her straight away. He was so stunned that he could hardly speak. Karla. His Karla was right in front of him. She was the last person from his past that he thought he would see again. She had been a big part of his teenage years. Their friendship had been unconventional, but there was nothing anyone could do about it. She was the only person he regretted leaving behind, and now she was in front of him. What's more? He was struggling to keep Zeus, his wolf, at bay. When his beta had informed him that they had caught a new rogue, his first reaction had been to leave it to his men to figure out what to do about him. "It's a woman, Alpha." That had caught his interest. There were hardly ever female rogues. For a woman to be sent out of her pack, it meant that she had been wronged or that she was a traitor. Usually, it was mostly the latter, so he wanted to check it out for himself. In the Rogue pack, of which he was Alpha, they welcomed everyone, for he too was been cast out by his people, but that was a story for another time. They had a system to determine who would be accepted into the pack. If an evil man like a rap*st had been cast out and he happened to stumble upon the Rogue pack, he would be killed. They were outcasts, not evil. Ace would usually leave it to his men, but there was something that urged him to take care of it by himself. The urge made sense to him when he reached the outhouse where the prisoners were kept and the most delicious scent wafted up to his nose. If not for his extraordinary restraint, his wolf, Zeus, would have taken over him. He remained calm so he would not be blinded by the bond. There was no way to know if his mate was a woman who had done wrong or had been wronged. So, to find out that it was Karla had to be the greatest thing that had ever happened to him. He was so lost in his reverie that he forgot that his woman needed medical attention. Karla was disturbed by his silence. Had he not recognized her? Was he disappointed by how she turned out? Was he disgusted by her appearance? Or worse, was he going to reject her like his brother had? "Ace." She said again, but he simply stared at her still, his face void of any emotions. "It's me, Karla." Ace was so surprised by the turn of events that he thought that he was dreaming. He had to be. There was no way the moon goddess would be that generous to him, was there? So, he stood there and stared at her. It was her sound of hurt that brought him back to earth. He had not been dreaming! "Mate." He finally said gruffly, but the moment was lost on Karla, who could no longer hold on to her consciousness. She collapsed in a heap on the floor. That finally prompted him into action. He flung the door open and scooped her up in his arms. Without fail, he ran to the pack hospital and yelled for someone to get the pack doctor to come look at her. Sometime during his race to the hospital, she opened her eyes and smiled weakly before fainting again. The elevator ride down to the lobby felt like it took a lifetime, at least it felt that way to her.Cassie stood in the center of the steel box, her back straight, her chin up, staring at her reflection in the elevator. Her guards stood in the corners, but Cassie wasn't looking at them. She was looking at the woman in the reflection. She looked like she belonged in the white suit and pretty heels and calm facade, but deep inside, she felt like she was about to vomit. The minute the elevator slid open in the underground garage, her mask slipped, making her knees buckle a bit."Ms. Stone?" The nearest guard quickly reached out to steady her."I'm fine," she breathed out, though her voice lacked the boom it had upstairs. "Just... get me to the car."They moved quickly toward the convoy of black SUVs waiting for her. As Cassie approached the middle vehicle, the back door opened from the inside. She climbed in, sinking into the comfortable leather seat. The door slammed shut, effectively s
KARLA'S POV A week later, the coven had chosen a date for my coronation and initiation ceremony. They also agreed to my suggestion that we have the initiation in the coven and then host the coronation ceremony in the pack house."Wow, I thought there would be a bit of argument there." I told them after they readily agreed to my proposal. Not one of them opposed me. "Why would we? You are our leader; you know what's best for us," was Sonia's simple response. It then dawned on me how big of a responsibility was on my shoulders. Any decision I made was going to affect all 150 witches that were under my watch, but this time, I didn't freak out; I embraced the responsibility. "What if I don't make the best reasons?""Well, do you have any reason you want us to have the coronation in the midst of wolves?""Yes, actually. I want the stigma around witches to be completely erased. Witches are always hiding, and that's enough. I also want wolves to stop looking down on witches. Most wolves d
THIRD PERSON'S POV When the witches received Karla's letter, Sonia thought for sure that she was turning down their request. She was even hesitant to open the letter. She also wondered how she was supposed to tell the others that she had turned them down. It took her two whole days before she could bring herself to open the letter. When she did and went through the letter, she laughed to herself and at herself. She wasn't rejecting them at all, she was skeptical about the fact that she was a hybrid who wasn't willing to hide a part of herself for the other part. Sonia knew she had no problem with the fact that she was a hybrid, but she still wanted to get the opinions of others on the matter, so she called a meeting. "What I want to talk about is the issue of our new leader.""She's an issue now?""Not at all, but it could be. It all depends on what the majority decides.""Has she agreed yet? I need to know so I can look for an auspicious date and also send out invites for her initi
KARLA'S POV I went to visit them with Rayden and spent more than ten hours with the witches before Rayden and I decided to call it a day. "Can you believe what just happened?" I said to Rayden when we were well out of their sight."I know, right? It's very rare that the coven asks someone they barely know to be a friend of the coven." He said excitedly."That was what stood out to you out of everything that happened today?""It was really weird. It's an exciting offer." He really was excited about it; by the way, his lips couldn't stop smiling. "What does it really entail?" "I get all the benefits the members get, and I get to weigh in on important decisions. It's like being in a coven without actually being in a coven, you know? It's the perfect thing for me right now, seeing as things are really crazy in the pack right now, what with the moving and all that.""Funny how you should mention that because I just got offered the leadership of an entire coven. What the hell do I know
THIRD PERSON'S POV Things were finally going back to normal in the BlueMoon Pack. It would definitely take a long time before things would go back to the way they were before Aiden took over, but they were on the path. The journey would be a long one, but they were fortunate to have a leader that cared about them genuinely. The first thing he did when he got the pack's finances under control was destroy the segregation that his brother enforced. All wolves were equal irrespective of their ranks. It was not an easy task because the higher-ranking wolves had started to believe that they were superior and had started to treat omegas as slaves they had a right to. In the schools, they made omegas sit apart. In the hospital, too, it was the same. The healers wouldn't prioritize an omega's health over a gamma or a beta, irrespective of what their illness was.It was Rayden that sent his men undercover to make sure that they weren't just working with hearsay. The report of his men was even
KARLA'S POV I narrowed my eyes at my mother. "You must think I'm some kind of pushover, don't you? You brought him here? For what purpose exactly? To play happy family?" The more I thought about it, the angrier I became. What did they take me for?Lucien stepped in front of her, as if to shield her from my attack, and I scoffed. They were so good at protecting each other. I was the outsider that was way more trouble."We all get that you're angry, Kid." Lucien said calmly, and I wondered what exactly was going on. Was he begging for my forgiveness or berating me?"Leave." I said calmly too to level his tone. "I want all of you to leave this place and never come back.""You can't...""Take the chance now that I'm being nice, or I'll have the guards throw you out or worse, boot all of you from this pack." I raised my voice a bit so they knew I wasn't playing around. I would not do that to any one of them, though. If there's anyone that knows what it feels like to be uprooted from a pla
