VERONICA

"The last one." The guard says it again. I breath heavily. A knot suddenly grew in my stomach. Come to think of it, I didn't know how it would be inside those gates. I wipe my sweaty hand on my dress and then place my right hand on Emily. We then walk inside together.

"That's the last one, my king," Emily said, her head almost hitting her knee. I also did the same but didn't bend as low as she did.

"Smile. Veronica. Try your best to be chosen!" Emily whispers through her clenched teeth.
