Cain Cadell

I knew moving to Midwick was a good start. The town held a strong connection to almost all kinds of supernatural, it only made sense that I make it the place I rule from. I know I still have plenty of fights, maybe even wars, before I become a Lycan.

"Perhaps tonight you'll finally find your mate." Daniel Braxton, my Beta and best friend, said as he came to stand next to me on the balcony.

"You haven't lost hope yet?" I shook my head, "I will be thirty in a few months, Daniel. No wolf goes that long without their mate if they were ever meant to have one."

"It's possible. You can never really know."

I chuckled coldly, "Or perhaps that witch we met a few years ago was right. She said the Moon Goddess herself has cursed me to never have one."

I felt the weight of his hand on my shoulder, "It doesn't have to be like this."

Daniel was the only one who knew how much not having a mate affected me, perhaps it’s because he was yet to find his mate as well. While I come off like I'm enjoying my single life, sleeping with women, and snatching power, I crave the feeling of having someone to call my own.

In this all wolves are the same; a piece of our soul is missing, until we find it.

To have one person who would love me unconditionally, accept my endless flaws, and forgive my past deeds.

Sometimes, it feels like I'm looking at life through a cracked window. Everything looks broken and out of reach.

"Let's focus on the more important matters." I used my alpha voice. "Are all the preparations ready for the masquerade?"

"Yes, Alpha." Daniel confirmed. "And as you requested, I sent the invitation to the Blackwell personally and to their doorstep."

I nodded my head. I needed the Blackwell to be the first to show. “How’s Sheila?” I asked him, gritting my teeth.

“We had to tie her to the bed. She had been thrashing around. Almost ripped John’s ear out.” Daniel said sadly. “I just don’t understand what happened to her.”

I shook my head; I didn’t understand either. However, I was sure that a witch was behind it. That’s why I needed the Blackwell to arrive as soon as possible.

The masquerade started on time, and guests began coming forth. I remained in the shadows, letting Daniel take care of welcoming them. After all, I had a bigger problem to take care of. I remained hidden in a corner, and watched everyone, anticipating the arrival of Morgana.

But as I stood there, a strong scent hit me right away. It was beautifully pungent, sweet like a flower, but strong like a spice. I felt my wolf stir inside me. I knew she was here, and her scent only made me more eager to see her.

I followed my nose, walking through the faces I didn’t know and ignoring the admiring looks I received from plenty of women. Until I stumbled into one. “Alpha Cadell, I hope you’re doing well.”

“Morgana?”

How come she has traces of that beautiful scent? I knew it wasn’t her; it wasn’t my first time meeting her. So, it must be someone she knew.

“I came to pay my debt, Alpha. Can you explain the situation to me?” She asked with a tilted head.

I was dazed for a minute, looking around to see if someone was with her, but it looked like she came alone. “Yes, sure. Come on.”

I led her to Daniel, and after some introductions, I told him to take her to Sheila. “Aren’t you coming with us?” He asked, confused.

I shook my head, “There’s someone I need to find.” I told him. I felt him trying to mind link me, but I shut him out.

After they left, I followed the scent to a secluded corner, the scent was strongest there. But I growled when I found no one there.

“Where the hell is she?” I muttered in frustration. It was like looking for a needle in a haystack.

I decided to go upstairs, check on the progress of things. Then I got it again, faint, but there. I headed to my sister’s room, and when I opened the door, I saw her. She stood right there next to my sister’s bed with Morgana.

She’s breathtaking. Her blonde hair was brighter than the sun, and her pale skin glowed under the light. She stood short, probably at five feet, but her long

I had seen plenty of women, been with more women than I could count, but her… she was different. Something about her pulled at me. Her legs seemed longer with her red high heels. And the short dress she wore did nothing to hide her curves.

Her blonde hair cascaded down below her breasts, glowing under the light of the room. The pale skin on her neck called for the animalistic part in me to bite her, claim her as mine.

She’s mine.

The last thought wasn’t mine; this was my wolf. This woman is my mate. And just like that, I felt like a piece that fell in place.

Her blue eyes remained focused on mine; I could see she was affected by my presence too. “Alpha Cadell?” She breathed out my name in the most alluring ways ever.

"Yes, darling. The one and only." I couldn’t help the smirk that rose on my face.

“I’m Cordelia Blackwell.” Her voice was slightly shaky, then her eyes drifted to Sheila’s bed, “And I think you have a serious problem here.”

My mind froze when I heard her name. Cordelia Blackwell was a well-known name in our world. Everyone knew her, they steered away from her, even witches.

A dark witch for a mate.

The thought made me erupt into laughter; I knew I must have looked like a mad man. The Mood Goddess really knew how to find my match. I shook my head, and after calming down I ambled towards her.

I knew I was in her personal space, when she tried to step back slightly. Being this close to her, I could feel sparks between us, something was cackling.

I knew she felt it too, when I saw her gulp nervously. “Wolves don’t respect personal space much, do they?” She asked in a light voice.

I noticed how she tried to pull her gaze away from mine. “In this case, no, darling. Actually, the less space the better.”

She blinked a couple of times and looked at Morgana with questioning eyes. She then shook her head, “Whatever.” She mumbled under her breath. She looked back at me, with more confidence, “Look, your sister here is possessed by a very strong, and extremely vengeful spirit.”

“Possessed? As in with a ghost?”

She raised an eyebrow, “No, with a fairy.”

So, my mate is quite sarcastic. Interesting. But I will need to sort out Sheila’s problem first before I make Cordelia mine. Because no matter what, she will become mine.

I will fight for this, claws, teeth, and everything I’ve got.

  • MIDWICK   TWENTY-FIVE - Seeking Answers

Cordelia Blackwell "Daniel, it has been a week! You can't tell me you have no clue where he is or what he's doing!" I exclaimed in fury, my anger burning bright and its flames heating my skin. I was currently in the Blood Moon Pack's mansion. Standing in their foyer, and hoping that Daniel would let any useful information slip. "We don't know where he is." He let out a sigh, "The entire pack is distressed. He came back that night, told me to manage the pack till he returns, I asked him where he was going, but he gave nothing away." "It's true." Sheila added in a sad tone. "The pack needs him now more than ever, I tried asking him what had happened." She shook her head, "Can you tell me what happened?" "No." I answered firmly, letting my glare drift to Daniel. "You tell me what happened during your visit to Jamestown. Everything changed after he came back." Daniel sighed, "Please have a seat." I raised an eyebrow, "I think the witch he met said something to him.""What witch?" …

  • MIDWICK   TWENTY-FOUR - Dear Mother II

Cordelia Blackwell “You have to come downstairs, love.” I heard Tom’s voice in the background of my mind. “We’re keeping her in the East Wing.” His hand touched my shoulder softly, “You’ve been cooped up in this room for three days now, Delia.” Three days? Is that how long it has been? It felt longer than that. “Fiona said she’ll only talk to you.” He urged me further, but it didn’t matter to me. Nothing matters with him not around. “Why should I care? Fiona and Debra can kill him for all I care.” I mumbled without averting my eyes from the sight of the afternoon’s sun through my window. Tom let out a soft breath, then sat on the edge of bed. “If only this was true.” He muttered softly. “This isn’t about Cadell, it’s about you. Fiona is your mother, a terrible one at that, but we need to know what she’s planning.” “Fine.” I agreed with a petulant huff. “I’ll meet you there.” Once Tom left, I took a shower and dressed to impress. Fiona has always been peculiar about the way I loo

  • MIDWICK   TWENTY-THREE - Lost in Translation

Cordelia BlackwellCain marched towards us with a look of fury in his eyes. It shook me to my bones, and I instantly jolted away from Tom as if his mere closeness burned my skin. The feelings I had were confusing; they contradicted each other greatly. I was elated and relieved to see Cain with my own eyes safe and sound after being worried for so long. But at the same time, I found myself fearing what he would do. Thomas and Cain stood face to face staring at each other. It looked like each one was trying to prove he's the Alpha Male. "What do you think you're doing with my mate?" Cain gritted out. His voice remained low, but menacing and dangerous. "What you've been failing to do all along." Tom answered, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. I stood there, watching Cain taking a hold of Tom by the collar of his white shirt, baring his teeth at him. "Who do you think you are to touch my mate so freely?!" Cain all but growled at him. "I'm the one person who knows her

  • MIDWICK   TWENTY-TWO - Breakdown

Cordelia Blackwell In the past two days, I’ve noticed that my strength was failing me. I have become weaker and weaker. The mark no longer burned, but my magic remained uncontrolled, and I remained tired most of the time.Tonight is the coven meeting, and I dreaded it tonight more than ever. I was sitting in the armchair in our parlor when I heard Morgana’s heels clicking on the marble floor. “Don’t worry. Everything will be fine.” “I wish I can have your confidence. I’m even more worried that we didn’t hear from Cain for the past two days.” I turned to her, “Do you think something happened to him?” “Cordelia.” She had this scolding tone. “We need to focus…” Before she could finish, there was a knock on the door. Maria went to open it, and to my surprise I found Thomas standing there in all his blonde glory and black trench coat. He looked more rugged than usual. “Oh my God, Thomas.” I said jumping off my chair and wrapping my arms around him.He stumbled back in surprise but let

  • MIDWICK   TWENTY-ONE - Vision

Cain Cadell The metallic stench of blood overwhelmed my wolf senses and excited both of us into fighting more vigorously and strongly. The desire to hunt, chase, and kill rose within myself and increased my hunger for blood. I was clutching one of the wolves, from the rogue pack targeting my pack in Jamestown, between my teeth. The taste of his blood and the pounding of his fearful heart echoed through me and urged me to kill him. The more human side of myself told me that we needed him alive, that I needed to question him and know more about this small pack that seemed solely after me. But the thrill of the kill was hard to resist. I heard Daniel through the mind link, "Alpha, I think this one is willing to talk." No sooner had I heard the words than I tore into the neck of the wolf. My wolf ran to my beta, my paws padding on the dirt of the forest and when I got to him, I saw a naked woman who seemed about to take her last breath. Daniel's brown wolf stood over her body. Sh

  • MIDWICK   TWENTY - Love Bite

Cordelia Blackwell "Does that mean I'm dying?" I asked, sounding nonchalant, but deep down I was absolutely and completely freaking out. "Not necessarily." Maria answered, then shared a look with Morgana. "Simply, we don't know the effect of a werewolf bite on a witch, now we're more concerned because your magic isn't…""Nature's Magic." I finished for her. Morgana nodded, "Perhaps it's better if you stay here for a couple of days. We'll ask around." "The Dorian's again? I'm sure Thomas is pretty fed up with us by now." I gave a small humorless chuckle. "He doesn't know anything about werewolves mating with witches." Morgana stated, "I asked him." She shook her head, "Just let me handle it." "You don't mind her staying here, right Alpha Cadell?" Maria inquired in her polite tone. When I turned to Cain he looked ashen pale. I was taken aback by how horrified he looked. "I'm going to Jamestown for a couple of days; it's safe for her to stay here. I'll let some of the guards from

  • MIDWICK   NINETEEN - Date Night

Cordelia Blackwell We arrived at the restaurant, his hand was on the small of my back as we were led to our table. A red candle was lit in the middle of the table, the soft piano playing in the background, and the almost inaudible chatter of the other guests created a perfectly romantic environment. "There must be a pack out there that absolutely hates your guts, you know?" I whispered as I got to our table. It was a perfectly romantic environment, but we were talking about werewolves and witches and mayhem. What a waste! "There have been some rumors." He said, then turned to the waiter, "We'll have a bottle of your best champagne." He ordered then turned back to me. I smiled slightly, "Champagne? I see we're off on a good start." "I noticed you have a certain preference for it." You seem to be noticing a lot of things today. I really wanted to say that, but I held back. The waiter came with the bottle and poured some in each glass. "You said something about rumors?" I inquir

  • MIDWICK   EIGHTEEN - Asked Out

Cordelia Blackwell"That doesn't explain the spell that was casted on John Burke. I thought it was something your sister, Fiona Blackwell, created and didn't give to the public?" Daniel Braxton asked. Morgana nodded, her lips were in a thin line. "This is true, which puts the possibility that they're working together. I contacted an old friend." When she turned to look at me I formed a decent guess, which she confirmed when she said, "Thomas Dorian agreed to help us find Fiona. Hopefully he'll contact us with the good news soon." "Daniel, check with our men in the area and the nearby towns. They should look in every corner for Debra Gray and Fiona Blackwell." Cain ordered sharply, his jaw set tight. I opted for silence. I didn't pitch in an opinion or give a suggestion. They'd do fine on their own. Needless to say the entire evening was ruined for all of us. We didn't discuss the reasons behind Debra's attempts to hurt Cain; they were obvious as the daylight. I headed back to th

  • MIDWICK   SEVENTEEN - Magical Signature

Cordelia BlackwellWhen we went downstairs, Cain didn't leave my hand. He had our fingers intertwined. And when we arrived at the parlor, he sat close to me, making sure that we were touching. For some reason, he felt like I was going to vanish into thin air or something. "I'm glad you're feeling better." Sheila said from next to Morgana. "Yes, Delia, we were very worried." James, Sheila's son, said from next to her. I smiled at both of them, "Thank you."My eyes drifted to Morgana, who looked at me with sad eyes, "You should have known better than to exhaust yourself like that. You stretched yourself thin." "Believe me when I say that I didn't have much of a choice." I retorted, "But there's a more pressing matter right now." "Cain told me about the Talisman." Morgana nodded, and I wondered when they became on a first name basis. "I want to find the magical signature on it." I told her, and she knitted her eyebrows together. "This won't be helpful unless we have something to c
