MR CEO AND I

CHAPTER ONE

“I may not have made myself clear, Elodie but I will now. I will never love you, no matter what and you seem to be forgetting that our marriage is just for the papers only.” Henry spat.

She was being too nice and he hated it, more so he hated the fact that he had to wake up to her face every day for the rest of his miserable life.

“I did not mean to upset you, I only thought you might be hungry seeing as you did not have anything to eat last night” Elodie muttered.

“I did not ask you for anything” Henry spat again.

“What is wrong with you?” Elodie snapped, her eyes flashing. “What have I ever done for you to treat me this way?”

“What have you done?” Henry scoffed, rising to his feet.

Elodie took a step back as he crowded her.

“You stole my entire life, Elodie… that is what you did. Now get the fuck out before I do something crazy” He glared at her.

Elodie gasped, turning away from him with the plate of Bacon and eggs she had in her hands. It had been a big mistake to think that he would even be the littlest bit kind to her after one year together.

She stole his life? He had the nerve to say that after marrying her and treating her like fucking trash all these while.

Henry was her husband but he was also a stranger.

She closed the door of the study behind her, stopping to turn around and stare at the black mahogany.

She wondered where it had all gone wrong with him.

Before their marriage, they had been friends and she only thought that marriage would somehow make them grow closer but how wrong she was.

She loved him as stupid as that may sound, Henry was her knight in shiny armor and the night she accepted to marry him had been the best night of her life. It was almost like a dream come through,

He had pretended for some months after their marriage and then had shown her his true colors and his hatred for her.

He never beat her, don’t get me wrong but his words of hate were enough to cut Elodie day after day until she was a shell of herself but still she tried to understand him, she tried to be his perfect little wife praised by all who knew them.

“What are you doing standing there like some lost puppy” The sharp voice of Elodie’s mother inlaw, Abigail Ford jolted her from her reverie.

“I am… good morning” Elodie muttered brightly.

“What is good about the morning, Elodie? I really… genuinely want to know” Abigail snarled.

She had made a big mistake forcing her son to marry this girl. Her parents had died and she was the sole heir to their fortune and so making her family also meant taking over her father’s empire and she had been more than happy about that.

It has been over a year however and Elodie was yet to bear a child, an extremely simple task if she wasn’t such a slut and had probably done a lot of things to her womb.

“I…”

“Listen…” Abigail stopped her, bringing a hand to her ears. “I want you to listen carefully, do you hear anything?” she asked.

“I do not” Elodie shook her head, confusion dotting her forehead

“Of course you don’t, other grandmothers would probably be hearing the voice of their grandchild this morning but here I am having to endure the sight of you with nothing to show for it” She raved.

Elodie said nothing, this wasn’t the first time her mother in law had spoken about her not bearing a child. She had tried but it wasn’t… there wasn’t anything she could do.

She brushed past Elodie, stopping to regard her with a baleful look.

“If you do not have anything better to do than stand around, maybe you can begin cleaning up the whole fucking place… might as well make yourself useful in some way” She retorted.

Elodie watched her mother in law saunter off, muttering under her breath about useless grand daughters and what not. She felt her eyes blur with unshed tears but she blinked rapidly.

No, she cautioned herself.

She is not going to see me cry again.

She walked away and to her room, securing the door behind her.

She reached for the picture of both her parents on the side table, her eyes blurring again. She remembered clearly the day they had both died, how she had cried her eyes out and how Henry had comforted her.

He helped her heal and then he asked her to marry him.

What changed? She thought.

What happened between them?

Abigail was speaking about grand children but did she know that Henry had not touched her in months?

There was no way she could tell her that and even if she did, she would only blame her.

Elodie sighed, her eyes perking up to the sharp ring of the door bell.

They were not expecting anyone so she wondered who might be. She dropped her parents photo and rose, heading out of her room and down the stairs in time to see Henry pull open the door.

“Sophia!” He exclaimed.

“Hey”

Elodie heard the unmistakable sound of a woman’s voice.

“What? How are you here?” She heard him ask.

He sounded excited to see her, more excited than she had ever seen him.

“I don’t know, I got back into the country and I thought I should see you. We have a lot to talk about” The voice said.

What the fuck is going on? Elodie thought to herself, approaching slowly.

He was yet to notice her presence.

“You… I have missed you so terribly” Henry sighed.

Elodie’s eyes widened at his heartfelt admission and before she could make her presence known, she watched Henry draw the woman into the house, wrap his arms around her and kissed her square on the lips
