THE EX RETURNS!

CHAPTER TWO

“What is the meaning of this?” Elodie screamed, her voice breaking.

Henry released the woman, turning to her in shock. He had no idea she had been standing there and honestly he would have preferred she did not see this but it was what it was.

“Elodie” He began, clearing his throat.

“What is going on?” She asked, her eyes moving to Sophia who smirked at her, her eyes glittering in malice.

He stepped in front of her as Elodie approached.

“This is Sophia… and we used to know each other” Henry muttered.

Elodie scoffed at this which infuriated Henry more than he cared to admit. She might be his wife but she did not mean anything to him whereas Sophia, she was his love.

“Get out” Elodie snapped at Sophia.

“She is going nowhere, do not embarrass yourself further” Henry countered.

“No, I should leave” Sophia stopped him. “It was a mistake coming here and I am sorry for the intrusion, Elodie” She muttered.

“No” Henry tried to stop her.

Sophia smiled, turning away and out of the house leaving Henry and Elodie standing together.

“You…”

“Not one word from you, Elodie… I swear to God” Henry growled, walking away from her.

He had to place a phone call, he had to know where Sophia lived and how she was back and what happened all those years ago.

Why she left

He had to know.

“Henry, you cannot walk away from this. I saw you kiss her and touch her and I…”

Elodie yelped as Henry stopped suddenly, turning to her with a furious expression on his face.

“Please tell me what is going on” She muttered.

“What is with you today?” He asked, chuckling to himself which confused her. “Why are you being so unbearable?”

“I am unbearable? You kissed a woman in our home and I am the one being…”

“Yes, Elodie… you are being fucking unbearable. I seem to have to remind you every time that we mean nothing to each other. The only reason we are married is because of the deal my mother made with your father and honestly…”

“I love you, Henry” Elodie blurted, interrupting him.

Henry’s eyes widened in shock at this.

“We used to be okay, childhood friends even and now this? What did I do wrong?”

Henry sighed, closing his eyes for a bit.

“You did nothing wrong, Elodie and I am sorry if I gave you the impression that I was in love with you because I am not”

Elodie gasped, her eyes watering as she watched him walk away and straight to his study. He was always there and when he wasn’t, he was at work.

He had suggested they get different rooms and he made sure never to come into hers.

Elodie’s lips trembled with the effort of trying not to cry out loud; she climbed the stairs, her feet dragging after each other.

I am not, his voice echoed in her head.

He wasn’t in love with her

Henry closed the office door behind him reaching for his phone. He clicked on a text message from a private number and read it out loud.

“This is Sophia, I did not want to cause any trouble with your wife but we could meet at our favourite place and I will explain everything to you.”

His heart flooded with happiness.

She wasn’t gone

He dialed the number, waiting patiently for her to pick up but she did not.

Their favorite place was a bar in some shitty town away from the bustle of being celebrities and they always went there to drink and party. He had not been there since she left and this was because he did not want the memories that came with that place.

Henry reached for his coat as soon as a knock sounded.

“Come in” He declared.

His mother walked in, Abigail Ford in all of her glory. She was the one who had suggested the marriage with Elodie. The one who had made sure to get Elodie parent’s signed approval before their unfortunate accident.

“What is it, mother?” Henry asked, glancing away.

“I passed your wife’s room and heard her crying her heart out. What did you do this time?” She asked.

“What did I do?” Henry scoffed

“Henry, you understand that our family’s fortune rests on the fact that Elodie remains your wife and hopefully bears your child”

“Our family’s fortune does not rest on her, mother and I cannot bring myself to…” He snapped.

“Henry Tobias Ford, what in the blazes is wrong with you?” His mother’s stern voice broke through.

“I need to be somewhere, we will talk about this later” He declared, brushing past her.

“Do not walk away from me, Henry, you are ruining everything with your behaviour and I…”

Henry heard nothing more.

He escaped before she had the chance to stop him, climbing into his car and driving like hell to the bar. He was surprised he even remembered its location so vividly.

His eyes sighted her immediately he entered, she was sitting at their favourite spot also and her eyes lit up with glee as they watched him approach.

“I did not think you were going to be here so soon” Sophia muttered, rising to her feet. “I hope I did not cause any problems with your wife, Elodie” She smirked.

“She means nothing” Henry stated.

She reached for Henry, wrapping her arms around him and sighing to herself. She was wearing the scent he always liked on her and she knew he noticed it judging by the way his arms tightened around her body.

“Sophia” Henry murmured in a tortured voice. “I don’t understand what is going on? How are you here and why did you leave?” He asked.

Sophia released him, sniffling.

“I did not want to leave” She whined. “I never wanted to leave you but I had to” She revealed.

“Why?”

“Your mother threatened to have me killed, Henry!"
