Rebecca looked down, staring at the ring on her finger. That finger should have been trembling with happiness, but instead she felt a tightness building up in her chest. In front of her, Liam was still kneeling, staring expectantly.

"Liam..." Rebecca's voice trembled.

Liam smiled a little. "Why are you crying? Are you unhappy?"

Rebecca shook her head slowly, then looked at him deeply.

"I'm sorry, I can't," she whispered softly.

Liam was silent. His smile vanished, replaced by a confused and disappointed look. "What do you mean, Rebecca?"

Rebecca shakily removed the ring. She took Liam's hand and slipped the ring back into the red velvet box.

"Your mom and dad don’t approve of our relationship. They don’t accept me, let alone Reno. And I don’t want you to have to choose between your family or me," Rebecca said, trying to be strong.
