Amelia Earhart just got into her friend's car when she heard her cellphone ring.
Everyone in the SUV turned to stare at her direction. She gave them a pretentious smile, excusing herself out of the car as she got down to take the call.
It was from her aunt. She picked it up immediately.
"Amelia freaking Earhart, where are you and why are there dishes on the table and in my sink?" Her aunt's loud voice filled her ears instantly.
Amelia slapped her forehead in frustration. She had forgotten to wash the dishes when she got back home from school. Now, she was halfway across town to a party with her friends.
"Aunt Grace, I'm so sorry. I literally forgot. I'll be there to wash it soon" she replied in a low tone. No one was supposed to hear her being scolded for not doing the dishes.
"Listen here you brat, you better get your little bottom back to this house and wash this dishes or I swear to God, I will––
Amelia hung up the call and quickly switched her phone off. She was going to deal with her extended family problems later. Now was not the perfect place. She was headed to a party.
"Is everything alright?" Her friend, Tiffany called out to her from the window side of the SUV. Amelia turned to face her, she nodded her head, "Sure. Why wouldn't it be?"
Amelia was lying. Everything was not alright. She was supposed to be home, washing dishes and reading her books so she could get ready for their exams next week but here she was, a few hours away from a party with girls she didn't even know. Amelia sighed. This wasn't her.
She had just turned nineteen last month and was officially considering herself to be a big girl. She wanted to go out more and dance a lot like her friends. She was a teenager in school for crying out loud, wasn't that what she was supposed to do?
"Maybe not" she answered her thoughts inwardly as she strolled back to the car. Her friends, Tiffany, Chloe and Madeline gave way for her to return to her seat inside and when she had finally settled in, they passed her a blunt.
"Here, have some. It'll take your worries away"
She shook her head.
"No thanks. I'm good" she smiled at them. Her mind wasn't at peace and the only thing she could think of was how she was going to be treated once she got back home.
Was it even a home?
Everyone got into the car and Amelia braced her seat belts as she thought about her life right now. She was living with her aunt and uncle from her mother's side and it was horrible–– to say the least.
As she sat, looking out the SUV window as they drove off, she remembered everything. It was on a sunny day when the tragic accident happened. The one that shook her for life.
"Mama!!!" Her four year old screamed. "Papa" she yelled from inside of the car after a moving truck had crashed into her parent's car. There was blood everywhere, the car's bomber had squeezed in and her parents had been squashed with their body fluids everywhere. It was a gory sight and not something that a four year old should have seen but she did.
She saw it and ever since, the memory had lived with her. Amelia grew up hanging nightmares as a child because of it but she never told anyone. It was always her and her diary.
Her mother's sister and her husband didn't make matters easier.
When the accident had happened, they came to claim Amelia as their family but she wished they hadn't. If she could have stopped her younger self from following them, she would have.
Growing up with them, they treated her as a slave, had her beaten and starved at the littlest inconvenience and were always verbally abusing her.
She sighed when their SUV got into a sticky road. Her body was pushed against her seatmate, Chloe, who was on her earphone with her earphones in.
"Don't worry, everyone. We're sorry about the inconvenience" Vivian the driver yelled from her steering wheel, "We're almost there"
Amelia swallowed hard. She nudged Chloe at her side, "Ever been to one of these parties before?" Chloe nodded. She took off the other piece from her ear. "No need to worry, it'll be fun, I promise"
Amelia exhaled. She hoped so. She needed it to be worth her time or she would be receiving new punishments for nothing.******
They got to the party venue shortly after. Everyone got out of the SUV, straightening their legs and dresses. Amelia was the last to come out."Your dress looks amazing" Chloe complimented her. Amelia smiled as she did a little twirl to show her dress fully. The gold sequin dress sat comfortably on her body, draping over her shoulders as she bent a little to pick her handkerchief that fell down. Her dress was short and tight, revealing her legs and wonderful shape.
Amelia started to see men staring at her with their mouths open.
"Thanks"
Vivan, their driver and friend got in front of the bouncer to clear them before everyone entered. It was Amelia's first time going to a party in a club and so she didn't know what to expect. She had searched up how to act at a party the previous night. She got a few tips, hoping it would work.
"Sit here!" Chloe shouted into her friend's ear while the loud music played. Amelia nodded. She sat comfortably and tucked a napkin in between her legs, hoping to avoid a see-through situation.
A waitress brought them a glass of champagne each as they sat.
"Compliments from the house" the waitress yelled to Chloe.
Amelia took her glass of bubbling wine and was slowly drinking. The champagne tasted nice. It was nothing like she had ever tasted in her life.
"This is good" her tiny voice screamed into the air as she tried to express her utter shock with wide eyes to her friend.
"Yeah, enjoy"
Amelia nodded, she leaned back into her chair, enjoying her drink.
Everyone was gathered on the table having fun and talking. The club looked lively and entertaining as everyone started to move their bodies to the rhythm of the beat from the music the dj played.
Amelia moved her shoulders too. She was tempted to stand up and dance but decided to keep calm. She didn't want to embarrass herself like that.
Her eyes roamed the different sections of the club until they caught a pair of blue sparkly eyes focused on her from across the room.
She swallowed hard. She took a second to fully observe him.
The figure smiled at her and then winked. Amelia felt weak in the knees. Her breath must have been taken away when she saw him swipe on his lower lips as his full attention remained on her.
"A Roman god"
Damn, who was he?
"Oh, what a beautiful day it is" Amelia mumbled as she pandiculated. She scanned around for a sign of Rosa and when she didn't see or hear any sound, she gently stepped out of bed."Hey there, you are up already" Rosa greeted her cheerfully and Amelia was amazed.Last night and nights before, Rosa has avoided her and has not ceased to constantly remind her of how she hid the truth from her. "Good morning Rosa" she greeted sceptically. "Good morning, did you sleep well?" she asked with a bold smile on her face. "Yes I did and you? You look rather too cheerful, what's up?" Amelia said as she slowly walked towards Rosa. "Oh sure I did, it's very obvious as you can see," Rosa said, still smiling. "It certainly is and I wonder what happened to you. Why are you so happy this morning?" Amelia asked as she gently lowered her on the couch. "Mmm, it's a long story, I'll tell you, but first, you have to go brush your teeth and get dressed because we are going out together" she said and Am
"Hi Ferz, how are you? Good to hear from you again. Oh, I'm sorry for not picking up earlier, I was busy with Mum" Valerie said"I see, when did you get back?" Fernandez asked"Mmm, it's been four days now" she replied"Four days? And you didn't bother to call me? That's not fair Val, c'mon. Have I become that insignificant to you?" Fernandez asked "Oh no, c'mon Ferz, you know you can never be insignificant to me, you are a vital part of my life. The thing is that I lost my phone and I asked my mum to get it from your Mum. She just sent it to me a few hours ago, I'm sorry" she said"Hmm, it's okay, I'm happy you are back in the country, can't wait to see you" He said "Me too, how about we meet up tomorrow, my parents are already planning a welcome party for me. However, I want us to meet before then" she said "Okay, that's fine by me." Fernandez nodded in agreement. "Do you have a particular place in mind?""No I don't, I was thinking you could send me the address," Valerie said,
After speaking to her mother on the phone, Mrs Tiguan returned to her almost confused son. "Yeah, as I was saying son, your father and I have been thinking of you settling down. You've done so well for yourself and the company that everyone is pleased with you. So it's time you have someone by your side to help harness your success" she said looking at her son whose face was void of expressionFernandez batted his eyelid and turned to his father who nodded to him"Mum, I thought we've been through this before? I have told you I will get married when I find the right one for me.I haven't found anyone who is genuinely in love with me. They all want my money and name, they are only interested in what I represent. I can't settle with such opportunists" he said"Oh my child, the reason for that is because you are searching in the wrong places, you are pitching your tent in the slum filled with beggars and gold diggers. Why not pick from some of our friend's daughters, Mr Reynold has tw
Amelia was not too pleased with Hamilo calling her out of the blue and inviting her to hang out with his friends. She thought of blocking him so that he wouldn't have access to her any more but on second thought she decided to leave things the way they were. Her phone rang and it was her aunt and her heart skipped a beat. She cleared her voice before picking up the call. "Good morning Aunty" she greeted her immediately "What's good about this morning Amelia? You've made it a habit to not return home any longer after work huh?" she queried"It's not like that Aunty, something came up that prevented me from coming back last night," Amelia said"And you didn't think you needed to call or send a message? It's not like I care anyways, so long as you have the money to give to me for this month's bill, you can stay wherever the hell you like" her aunt said and Amelia chuckled. She bit her lower lips and was quiet for a moment before summoning the courage to respond to her aunt. "Well A
Fernandez drove with the thought of everything Lucia said to him. He reminisced on his past with Lucia and chuckled"She has changed a lot. The ugly, skinny and big-eyeballed Lucia has changed to an attractive lady" he said to himself, with a pleasing smile Fernandez got to his parent's house and got out of his car. He was stunned to see his father's missing car and the police patrol car in the compound. He called one of the security guards"What's going on here? Why is the police car here?" he asked"Sir, Diaz was trying to sell your father's car to a car dealer. When he was asked to provide the code to unlock some of the car features, he couldn't The buyers suspected that he had stolen the car and they secretly alerted the police. The police got there and found him in the same car your father had reported to be missing" he narrated and Fernandez tapped his shoulder before going inside. "Good evening Dad, good evening Mum" he greeted as he walked into the sitting room. "Good ev
