ELOISE’S POV.“Good day, Mr. Wesley.” We all greet in unison and on our feet when Klein walks into the conference with his P.A, Logan, following closely behind him. Klein nods curtly in response to our greeting as he heads over to the head seat of the conference table. Logan pulls out his seat for him and before he sits down, he motions the rest of us to take our seats. Logan takes the empty seat I left next to Klein’s right-hand side while I sit next to Logan. I am one seat away from Klein, meanwhile, Jasmine is occupying the seat directly opposite Logan’s. The small smile perched on her lips tells me she is very pleased to be sitting right next to Klein.“This is going to be a very brief meeting as I do not have much to say.” He says looking at each one of us. He’s here to formerly introduce Jasmine, the new Director or Production to us, the various perfumer teams. “As you all must have heard, a new Director of Product Design has been recruited and she’s seated right here with us.”

ELOISE’S POV.“Good morning, Jasmine.” I greet the moment I step into Jasmine’s office.She’s seated behind her giant oak desk, facing the floor-to-ceiling glass window that gives her a view of the city’s busy streets and buildings beneath. It should have been me sitting there. After the former director got fired for incompetency, I was the next best option for the position. ELOISE’S POV.My voice echoes those four words through the atmosphere like an eerie sound in a horror movie, over and over again until it fades completely and the silence of doom befalls us again.How I hate the calm before the storm.Klein rotates in an excruciatingly slow pace and with each new angle he turns, I feel an organ shut down within me. By the time he’s facing me fully, all my systems have stopped functioning and I’m white as a corpse. He’s not wearing the habitual cold, stoic and blank expression he always wears in my presence. The look on his face is an angry one.All my bones dissolve as I watch him eat up the distance between us with two long strides. His jaws are ticking from how tightly he’s clenching them. God! I feel like I’ve awoken a sleeping beast.“What did you just say?” He growls, the timber of his voice raking cold shivers down my rigid spine. CHAPTER SEVENELOISE’S POV.Klein’s body is stiff and unmoving, and he has both his hands to himself, by his sides. Jasmine on the other hand is on her toes, her palms flattened on Klein’s chest as she keeps her lips glued to his like she owned him. The monster in my chest starts trashing and my knees start to buckle as I watch their shocking display. I want to scream his name, but the shock from what I’m witnessing has made me forget what it sounds like. My voice has been caught in my throat and even as I open my mouth to say something, no words fall out from it. I shut it and swallow dryly and that’s when the two lovers finally notice that they are not alone in the garden.“Eloise!” Jasmine yelps in shock when she sees me, skipping away from Klein as though his touch suddenly burned her. ELOISE’S POV.“Thank you.” I say to Logan in a low tune as I get into the car whose door he just opened for me. The smell of Klein’s cologne lingering in the atmosphere is an announcement of his presence in the car and when I finally acknowledge it by looking his way after strapping on my seatbelt, I’m not surprised to see him all dressed up with his poker face in place. I should probably greet him like I always do, but I don’t want to. He doesn’t possess a single modicum of care or concern for my wellbeing, I’m sure he doesn’t care about my greetings either.Logan settles in the front seat and the car starts moving. Klein and I still haven’t said a word to each other and I pray it stays that way for the rest of the evening. ELOISE’S POV.The world is fading in and out of focus, shades of grey. My mind is torturing me by replaying the scene that unfolded in Klein’s office. My heart is bleeding like it’s been ripped to pieces. He didn’t listen to anything I had to say, he chose her over me and as if all of that wasn’t enough, he’s made her my Superior in my father’s company.The little hope I had left that Klein isn’t having an affair has been crushed completely.“Mrs. Wesley.” The doctor’s gentle call brings me back to earth. I look down and notice he’s done stitching the wound on my palm and has even plastered it. “You’ve received four stitches on the wound and I advise you not to do any strenuous activity with the hand until it heals.” He says and rises from the chair he was sitting on while a nurse clears the nearby table of the tools and medications that were used to tend to my wound. “Also, you should pass by daily to have it checked and cleaned, but if you can do that at home, it’s still okay.
