Vivian's pov

The moment I opened my eyes, the harsh blinding lights of the intensive care unit burned my sight. I shut my eyes immediately and slowly opened them, taking in the lights slowly.

My head throbbed, and the sharp, sterile smell of bleach and medicine made my stomach turn. I tried to make out where I was. I wasn't sure yet but as soon as the quiet, rhythmic beep filled the room, I had an idea of where I was.

I tried to move, but my whole body felt sore and heavy. Then, I remembered the cold pavement and the rain washing the blood away slowly. The memory all came back.

"My baby," I croaked, my throat feeling like dry sandpaper. I placed a hand over my stomach, "Where is my baby?" I cried out.

A nurse stepped over to my bedside with her face full of pity. She pointed toward a glass box at the side of the room.

I looked instantly to where her finger pointed to.

Inside the plastic incubator was a tiny, fragile human being...my daughter!

I'd given birth already! But it was just twenty-nine weeks, and she wasn't supposed to come now.

"We had to perform an emergency surgery in order to save your daughter, ma'am." The nurse informed me.

I swallowed, my eyes still on my daughter's small form. She looked like she barely weighed two pounds. There were tubes running in and out of her tiny body, helping her breathe.

"She is fighting hard, Ma'am," the nurse whispered gently. "But she was born much too early. The doctors say she might not make it through the night."

Hot and bitter tears trickled down my cheeks, I reached out a trembling hand toward the glass box, but I was too weak to sit up.

For two whole days, I laid in that cold, lonely room, listening to the steady beep of my baby's heart monitor, praying with every breath for her to survive. For forty-eight hours, nobody came.

Even though I'd caught Adrian cheating on me the night of our third anniversary, I still hoped he cared for me. I still waited for him to call or look for me at least.

But his call never came, he never visited, it didn't bother him if I was alive or not.

On the morning of the third day, the television mounted on the hospital wall that seemed like it had never been turned on, hummed to life.

Just in that moment, a news reporter's bright voice broke the silence of the room.

"In major business news today, Lancaster Enterprises has officially joined forces with Monroe Global!"

I turned my head toward the screen. There was Adrian, wearing a crisp black suit, standing under flashbulbs and cameras. He was smiling warmly, shaking hands with Bernard Monroe, Celeste's billionaire father.

Sitting right beside them, looking proud and elegant, was Celeste herself. On her wrist, the silver blessing bracelet caught the light of the cameras.

The news anchor continued, "Sources say this massive deal was months in the making, saving Adrian Lancaster's company from collapse."

A cold realization washed over me, numbing the pain in my body.

My entire three-year marriage had been a lie. Adrian didn't marry me because he loved me, I was just a temporary placeholder and someone to keep his bed warm, to hold his company together until he could secure the Monroe family's billions.

Just then, the door to my room clicked open and Adrian walked in, looking immaculate.

His dark hair was neatly styled and his suit was ironed to the point that there was not a single wrinkle on it.

My heart sank into my stomach, the memory from last night completely disappeared the moment his expensive cologne clogged the air in the room.

He should have known that I'd given birth to our baby girl, yet he brought no flowers, not even a stuffed animal for his child.

He didn't glance at the glass incubator where his daughter laid, struggling for her life.

He just walked straight to the edge of my bed, adjusted his silver cufflinks, and looked down at me. His eyes were totally devoid of any emotions.

I searched for the words to confront him about who I'd seen him with last night but I couldn't bring myself to do it because I thought he was here to apologize.

"Did the rich investors call your grandfather's foundation yet?" he asked flatly.

The last bit of hope I clung onto shattered.

He couldn't even ask how I was! After all that he had put me through, he couldn't apologise for standing me up and leaving me to bleed out in the cold street. The only thing he thought about was money!.

I stared up at him. In that single, quiet second, the last tiny spark of love I had for Adrian Lancaster died. The woman who had loved him, forgiven his long hours, and searched three countries for his gift was gone.

"No," I answered, my voice was steady and empty of any emotion. "They didn't."

Adrian clicked his tongue in annoyance, checking his expensive gold watch. "Unbelievable. Make sure you call your grandfather today, Vivian. We need that money to finalize the merger."

Without waiting for me to answer, he turned on his heel and walked toward the exit.

The sheer effrontery he had to walk in here without apologizing after betraying my trust.

Hot tears stung my eyes but I refused to let them fall.

I stared at the door for a long moment, my eyes stone-cold and clear. I reached over to the bedside table, picked up my phone, and pressed the top contact on my speed dial.

The line rang twice before a deep, strong voice answered.

"Vivian, my sweet child? Is everything alright?"

"Grandpa," I said softly, my voice sharper and stronger than it had ever been before. "I need you to help my daughter disappear.”

VIVIANThe line hummed quietly against my ear for several seconds. Adrian did not answer immediately, and for a moment, I wondered if he had decided to ignore my call completely. Then I heard the sound of his breathing, followed by his voice.“What do you want?”The heavy silence between us lasted for several seconds.“Did you call to return my daughter to me?” Adrian asked. His question irritated me immediately.“You do not have a daughter with me,” I replied.A faint silence followed my words.“Is that so?”“Yes. Whatever you think you are entitled to, you should stop assuming that I have something that belongs to you.”I could hear the restraint in his voice when he responded. “Selling off your company debts was not enough to shake me off your tail, was it?”My fingers tightened around the phone.“So you admit you have been targeting Lancaster?”The question came calmly, but I knew exactly what he was doing. He wanted me to confirm something I had no intention of confirming.“You s

ADRIAN The silence in the boardroom settled my thoughts, and for the first time that morning, I felt completely in control. Every person around the long table had stopped speaking. No one moved unnecessarily, and no one seemed willing to meet my eyes for longer than a few seconds. The tension was obvious, but I found it calming. After everything that had happened, I needed them to understand that I was still the one making the decisions.A board member sitting at the far end of the table finally broke the silence.“Your actions are nothing short of treachery, Adrian. You have shown complete contempt for this board, and sooner or later, you will answer for it.”Several people shifted in their seats, but I kept my attention on him. His voice carried more confidence than the situation deserved, and I could already tell that he believed the rest of the board would support him.He was mistaken.“You seem very certain of yourself,” I said.“I am certain that what you are doing is unaccepta

AdrianFive names, two separate lists, and half a billion dollars sitting untouched in his account made everything from the past few hours feel unreal, as though someone had handed him a dream far too extravagant to actually be true.He knew better than to believe that, though. None of it had been a dream.Stepping out of the bustling airport terminal, he spotted his secretary rushing toward him with an expression that screamed disbelief before she had even said a single word."Are you completely out of your mind?" she demanded the moment she reached him.He let out a short chuckle, unable to hold it back despite the seriousness written across her face."This isn't funny, Adrian," she snapped, clearly not sharing his amusement. "The board is furious. Most of them are already on their way to Lancaster headquarters as we speak."He nodded calmly, seemingly unbothered by the warning, which only deepened her exasperation as she led him toward the waiting car."They might remove you as CEO

VivianSettling my daughter into bed took longer than usual that night, her small hands gripping the edge of her blanket as she fought against sleep despite how tired the day had clearly left her. I finally tucked the blanket around her shoulders and pressed a soft kiss to her forehead before slipping quietly out of the room.Damien stood near the doorway when I stepped out, his expression carrying a weariness that hadn't been there earlier in the evening."I think I found someone willing to tell us who Adrian met with tonight," he said, his voice low despite the empty hallway around us."You've been making calls this entire time?" I asked, surprised he had managed to work through everything while we were still at the park with our daughter."Since we left," he admitted.Guilt settled heavily in my chest as I processed his words. "This is because of me, isn't it? Because of what happened tonight.""You didn't do anything wrong," he said firmly, stepping closer and resting a hand gentl

AdrianRage simmered through every part of me, but it slowly gave way to something closer to helplessness the moment I replayed how the escort had addressed Vivian and Damien back at the gathering."What exactly is this organization?" I asked the man walking beside me, unable to hold the question back any longer. "And what rank do Vivian and her husband hold within it?"He said nothing, his silence stretching long enough that I felt a flicker of irritation rise in my chest. I could sense the quiet disdain radiating off him, though he never once looked in my direction to confirm it."You're not exactly in a position to be asking questions," he finally said, his tone flat and unbothered.I clenched my jaw, forcing myself to let the comment slide. If he wouldn't give me answers, perhaps Lord Darren would. The name rolled through my mind repeatedly, yet nothing surfaced. I had spent years building connections across industries, and the fact that this name meant absolutely nothing to me on

VivianNothing could have prepared me for the sight of Adrian standing there, not after everything I had learned about the three hundred society in the past few hours.Shattered glass scattered across the floor near his feet, and for a brief moment, I could have sworn the fractured pieces reflected a man who looked as broken as the glass itself."Is that my daughter?" he demanded, his voice rising just enough to draw a few curious glances from nearby guests.I ignored the question completely, refusing to give him the satisfaction of an answer. Damien stepped forward immediately, positioning himself between us with a firmness that left no room for argument."Back off, Adrian," Damien said, his tone low and controlled despite the tension radiating off him.I watched anger flash across Adrian's face, though he seemed to catch himself before it fully surfaced. A few people nearby had already turned to look at him with expressions of quiet disapproval, and I could tell the attention unsett
