Jane’s POV

The door slammed shut behind me, the sound echoing too loudly in the small office. It clicked like a trap being set, and when I turned, he was there… leaning against it with an infuriating ease, arms folded, his eyes tracing me in a way that made my skin crawl.

“Damn,” he said slowly, deliberately. “You’ve gotten hotter. Sexier. Didn’t think you could outdo yourself, but… here we are.”

The air caught in my throat. My body went stiff, panic prickling under my skin like needles. “Step back,” I forced out, though my voice shook. “Stay away from me."

He didn’t. Instead, he pushed himself off the door with lazy confidence, moving closer, his smirk widening. “Relax. I’m just… appreciating. You should take it as a compliment. I came back for you, Jane. Don’t you get it? All this time, and I realized… I made a mistake and I'm here to make things right.”
