I stared down his dark eyes.
This was my father's dying wish; that I should relinquish my power to my mate.
Liam smiled at me as he held me in his arms.
"I love you Morning." He said in a sing-song voice.
"I love you too." I smiled and moved to kiss him.
The kiss was brief but warm.
This was love. I never wanted it, but when my father pressured me to get a mate so that he wouldn't die without an heir, I acquiesced.
And although my father didn’t live to see it, I was happy that I did as he asked.
"With the blessings of the Moon Goddess, I now pronounce you Alpha and Luna of the white claw pack." Elder Octavius said.
The pack members in the hall clapped.
Liam turned to them with a smile.
"As the new Alpha of this pack, I will take it to new heights. This marks the joining of two families, my moonlight pack and the white claw pack!"
The applause was even louder, as Liam's personal guards and his pack members clapped widely.
As the last full-blooded member of the great white wolf bloodline, I was the heir to the pack. My mother died to the silver of hunters when I was younger, and my father feared for our bloodline when his life was near its end.
I wanted to become Alpha of the pack myself, but there were issues and my father insisted that I find a suitable mate instead.
I smiled at Liam as he addressed the pack members. He was the alpha of a smaller and weaker pack but he was found suitable. With time, I came to love him and last night we mated for the first time.
With the mating ceremony he became the Alpha of the pack, and I was his Luna.
"Enough of this! Out of my way!"
I turned to see who was making a commotion.
A blonde-haired she-wolf emerged from the crowd. She boldly pushed aside anyone that blocked her path.
"I'm tired of all this." She said as she brushed her long hair.
"Who is that?" I asked in surprise. Liam didn't answer and when I turned back to look at him, his face had turned white.
The girl climbed up to the altar and hugged Liam.
The entire hall went silent.
The girl kissed Liam fully on the lips.
"Babe, you said the ceremony wouldn't take long. Why am I still here?" She said.
Liam let out nervous laughter as a murmur washed over the crowd.
I froze. My mind couldn't understand what was happening.
"Olivia stop playing around. Thank you for the congratulatory kiss." Liam said as he let out another forced laugh.
"Congratulatory kiss? Of course." I said to myself as relief washed over me.
I moved closer to Liam, but the girl still hugged him.
"Liam, who is this? Is it your sister? Please you're embarrassing us in front of the pack." I said. To my surprise, my voice came out as a plea.
In my heart I was begging the Moon Goddess that it was really his sister.
The crowd watched us closely and waited.
Elder Octavius spoke out.
"Alpha Liam, can't you talk to her later? We are still in the middle of the mating ceremony." He said.
"I-." Liam started to talk but he was interrupted.
"Hold on here. What are you guys talking about?" Olivia said in a very audible voice.
"Babe, you said that after you became Alpha that there would be no need to hide anymore. You know I'm tired of meeting you in secret because of some crazy whore."
The entire crowd heard Olivia's words and went silent again.
"Olivia, not now." Liam said quickly.
"No I'm really tired Liam!" Olivia said. "I mean you're already Alpha right?"
"Yes." Liam said.
"Then there's no need to hide anymore. For the Moon Goddess's sake, I've been waiting for weeks now! I mean you told me yourself how you just needed to fuck the crazy whore, and you were done. You also told me you did that yesterday, and you didn't even enjoy it."
Olivia placed her hand on Liam's face and tilted it to her.
"That's why you came back to get the good stuff from me that same night." Olivia said in a seductive voice.
My hand fell to my side and the flowers Liam gave me fell to the ground.
I felt a sharp pain in my heart, but I still refused to believe what I was hearing.
Yet I could remember the night before. It was my first time with a man. After Liam was done, he left the room, and I was confused because he had been urging us to mate even before the ceremony for weeks.
Was that why he left? Did he find me disgusting and go for another woman?
I shook my head and moved to pull Olivia away from Liam.
As I touched her, Liam moved quickly and slapped my hand away. He had a disgusted expression on his face.
"This isn't really happening." I said to myself as one of Liam's personal guards stepped up between us.
"Liam, tell me this is a joke." I pleaded. That was the only explanation. He must have come up with an elaborate joke to mess with me.
Olivia laughed at me.
"The real joke is you. I heard about your barbaric character. Did you really think my Liam would want you?"
"Your Liam?" The words came out of my mouth with difficulty. Still, I desperately needed to believe anything apart from what I was hearing.
Liam had spent so many nights professing love to me and me alone.
And now I was hearing something else in front of my entire pack.
"Yes, my Liam." Olivia said and turned Liam's face back to her.
She smiled slyly.
“He had been mine long before you came along.”
She touched her hand to her stomach.
“And I’m pregnant with his baby to prove it.” She said as she kissed him, and he kissed her back.
Another migraine hit me.But luckily it was a lot weaker than the last one. I got off easily as I only had to push against the wall with one hand for support. After I waited for five seconds, most of the pain receded.Worry flashed through my mind. Everyday it seemed like my condition wasn’t getting any better. I was too weak to do anything and I had been in a coma for awhile.I had been a constant burden to Morning and the others, because they had to carry me just to get by.What if I never got better? It never crossed my mind to be worried for myself. Ever since the day I walked away from the church, I had been ready to die for what was right. That was no concern to me.But I was scared that I would die before I could complete my mission. Even with many months of being an outlaw, I had not gotten any great achievement. I had made little progress in my mission. Things were moving forward, especially now. But what if I never recovered. It would be a cruel joke from Sol.I was more th
Morning immediately exploded into a tirade of angry words.I cringed inwardly because I immediately recognized my poor choice of words. Morning had been placing emphasis on the need for me to take a break for awhile now. I could now confirm that she wouldn’t feel good when I ended up doing the opposite of that.“I told you not to push yourself!” Morning exclaimed, confirming my thoughts.Of course I was sorry for how I made her feel.I understood what she meant when she told me not to push myself, but it was just an understanding of the words themselves.Ever since the first day I could remember, which was about thirteen years ago, things have never been easy. From then on I constantly had to push myself to keep going. All my years in the church emphasized this. Even though all my achievements there ended up being worthless to me now, I had still pushed myself to get them. To be the best. And my current mission was the most important. I knew that it depended on me to save all the live
Earlier that evening.I made sure that my entire group were ahead of me on the flight of stairs. It wasn’t very difficult because they all seemed to forget about my condition. Of course that had a lot to do with my own efforts.Even as I looked up the seemingly impossibly high flight of stairs, my head banged. The headache seemed to come and go with unpredictable intervals in between. The innkeeper was helping carry Rowena up the stairs and Morning was focused on him.I took in a deep breath. I couldn’t linger at the bottom for long unless Morning and the others would notice. And I completely refused the idea of Morning carrying me up the stairs in her arms like a baby.I took the first step, it was difficult instantly. I gritted my teeth and pushed past the pain. I kept a steady pace so as not to alert any of them as I followed behind. Every step was difficult.I needed an anchor to escape the pain. My eyes went to Morning and I focused on her hair. It was midnight black and luscious
“Phoenix are you okay?” I said with my heart in my mouth.Oisin took a step forward but Phoenix raised his hand and stopped him.“I’m fine.” He said. I helped him stand back up.He placed on hand on his head. “I just got a little dizzy there.” He said.I remembered how I had let him climb the stairs here by himself. I hadn’t been paying attention to him, but he must have struggled and used a lot of energy to climb the steps.Anger flared up within me.“Where you pushing yourself earlier?” I asked in a low dangerous tone.Phoenix turned to me with slight surprise on his face. He hadn’t been expecting anger from me just now and I could tell.“It was nothing. How useless am I if I can’t even climb a flight if stairs?” Phoenix asked.“I thought I told you not to push yourself!” He was infuriating me now, why didn’t he listen.“Must you prove that you’re strong!?” I prodded. He had pushed himself so much. I found it admirable, but now I couldn’t bare it if it cost him so much. Why couldn’
The innkeeper examined our group.I held Rowena against my body. I had walked to the inn with her directly strung over my shoulder. It had been a tough walk but I was able to pull it off. I had a thin layer of sweat over my skin. As I entered the inn, I let her feet drop to the ground. I didn’t want to make it look too odd that I was carrying her all by myself.Phoenix stood in the front, he had dropped off Oisin’s hand after we stepped into the inn. I didn’t protest because I knew he was just going to talk to the inn keeper.Roman stood behind with Oisin. The inn keeper had a complicated expression on his face, as if he wasn’t quite expecting a group like ours.I doubted that our worn out clothes were helping his impression. He dropped the glass he had been cleaning and chewed on the stick in his mouth.I had to wonder how many glasses he had to clean. I had definitely been gone for over an hour and most of the nighttime drunks had already retired to their rooms.“What do you mean b
I followed behind Orlaith and Oisin as they moved to Phoenix. The bear was already carrying Rowena across his back. It was a sad contrast to when Rowena had been vibrant and riding on his back. But at least she wasn’t dead yet.Phoenix moved from the tree he was resting against and wobbled slightly. I wouldn’t have noticed if I wasn’t watching specifically for it because he corrected his stance almost immediately. The glimpse of his true state that I had caught was enough to tell me all I needed to know.He was still very much sick. Or whatever was wrong with him.“Alright, let’s start moving now.” Phoenix said.I moved over to him, passing Orlaith without looking at him.“Orlaith is going to carry you too until we reach the edge of the forest.” I reminded him.Phoenix nodded his head gravely. That’s fine but I’ll walk the rest of the way.“No you won’t.” I said.He raised an eyebrow. “How will we manage that? You’ll be carrying Rowena so you can’t help me.” Phoenix said.“Oisin will
