"No. No. No."
'This can't be happening.'
I stepped forward. The guard tried to stop me, but I pushed him to the side. The guard fell to the floor.
"Liam, tell that crazy woman that she should get off you. Everything she said was a lie, right?" I said with a desperate smile on my face.
I moved to throw her off him.
"Liam, protect me!" Olivia screamed.
Liam stepped forward and put Olivia behind him.
Then he pushed me down.
I fell to the ground with disbelief on my face.
"You are the crazy woman Morning.
I'm so fucking sick of you for the Moon Goddess' sake!"
"What?" I asked in a daze.
"You heard me right!" Liam said. "You and your stupid anger issues! I've been bearing so much for the past few weeks. You keep on acting like a bipolar maniac!
Why the hell would I choose you over my Olivia!" Liam shouted. “I reject you as my mate Morning White!”
"No. You can’t." I whispered to myself.
The murmuring of the crowd became louder. And Elder Octavius began to look around frantically.
Liam turned to the restless crowd with Olivia still in his arms and he addressed them.
"It's common knowledge that Morning is unstable and unfit to be heir. That is why I bore so much. So that I could follow tradition and become the rightful ruler of the pack! A stable and strong leader is needed in dangerous times like this, not an unstable maniac!"
The crowd murmuring became louder.
To my surprise, no one came forward to dispute his allegations.
My body began to tremble.
"Alpha Liam, maybe I should end the ceremony." Elder Octavius said.
But I barely heard his words or the words of anyone else as my body shook.
Olivia turned Liam back to her and kissed him with a huge smile on her face.
My vision turned red.
"I'll show you crazy." I growled.
It happened swiftly and suddenly.
I began to shift.
I could no longer distinguish words from each other as my muscles expanded and became covered in thick white fur.
I heard Olivia scream as my teeth elongated.
My white ceremonial gown shredded as I fully transformed into a great white wolf, seven feet tall.
My red-colored vision focused on Liam.
He had betrayed me, after I sacrificed so much for him. And he had rejected me for another woman.
I could form no coherent thoughts, but his betrayal was still fresh in my mind.
I felt an all-consuming rage as I charged towards him.
Liam looked panicked as Olivia hugged him and she screamed.
Liam shouted something.
I jumped into the air and opened my jaw wide, showing him my array of huge white teeth.
A force hit me from the side and my trajectory was thrown off completely.
I landed on the floor as Liam's guard from earlier tried to bite my neck. He had shifted and came to Liam's aid.
Unluckily for him, he wasn't of my bloodline. His wolf was half my size and his attack felt pitiful.
I quickly pinned him with my hind legs and ripped out his neck.
The taste of blood was now fresh in my muddled mind and I looked up for my next prey.
The reason for the anger that now permeated my entire body was lost to me, but I was going to let it out regardless.
Seven wolves of Liam's guards lined up between me and him. They cautiously inched closer and growled at me.
I heard screams from the crowd and words that I couldn't understand as they all fled.
I moved quickly and jumped into the midst of the wolves in front of me.
They were completely taken off guard. I was outnumbered, so I was expected to be cautious. Unbeknownst to them, no such thoughts crossed my mind.
All I wanted was their blood to quench my rage.
There was a tussle of fur as they all tried to get a piece of me. Most aimed for my neck, but they were too slow.
My white fur was painted red as I ripped out the arm of the last wolf.
More wolves came towards me. My mind was now too far gone to even count them. But they smelled familiar, and I knew they were from my pack, not Liam's.
But that was not enough to stop me as I pounced on them.
They put up more of a fight than the last group. Some managed to get their claws on me and left deep gouges in my hide. While others bit me at any point they could.
They still weren't enough and soon all of them were down.
I turned with a blood-covered snout to see who was next.
My red vision went into the crowd. Many of them had run away, but some were left in the corners of the hall whimpering.
I saw a mother and child hiding behind a chair.
I snarled and got ready to pounce on them.
'No. This is wrong.'
A part of my mind chided me and I paused in my tracks. What was I doing?
What had I been angry at?
My momentary distraction was enough for the guards and I soon felt a chain wrap around my neck from behind.
Two guards held each end and tightened it. I tried clawing at the chains, but they already had purchase.
I slowly felt my vision go darker as I suffocated.
…
I woke up some time later.
I tried to move my hands, but the chains stopped me.
Then I looked around. I was in a large cell room.
Both my arms, legs and neck were chained to the wall like some feral beast.
I tried to move but noticed that my energy was down.
"What is this?"
"Wolfsbane poison to slow you down."
I recognized the voice. It was Liam.
He was standing behind the bars in front of my cell.
He smiled at me.
"Don't worry about it. Thanks to your tantrum earlier where you killed and maimed over twenty pack members, there was a unanimous decision to execute you tomorrow evening."
"Now you'll be gone, and I'll have the pack all to myself."
Liam walked away, leaving me to my imminent fate.
The silvery point of the dagger stuck out through the back of my palm. It was already painted in blood. At first, I didn’t feel much pain. That was because I had moved quickly under the threat of death. My mind had been too occupied to worry about an injury. But the very second I was able to stabilize the situation by restraining the hunter again, my body decided to inform me about the injury. My hand tightly held on to the hunter's hand even with the knife sticking through.Even when I felt the burning sensation that silver caused in wolves, I didn’t let go. I knew that letting go would just be giving my life to the hunter under me.He had already shown that he was going to kill me at the first chance he got and without any hesitation to both.If only I could be more like him in that aspect. The hunter tried to move his hand away. At first he tried retracting the knife, but I held tightly to it. His motion caused the blade to shift inside my palm. It caused a great amount of pa
I was almost too slow to notice it.I pinned the hunter to the ground and stared him down as I asked him questions to help pour out my growing rage. For years I had been suffering from the consequences of actions carried out by hunters. And now, for the first time, I had a hunter within my grasp. I wasn’t sure what to do with him at first. I knew I should kill him but I quickly came to the realization that killing wasn’t as easy as I thought.I then started asking him questions. Of course I was genuinely questioning him. There wasn’t really any vital information I felt I could acquire from him. We weren’t lacking information. And even if we were, I soon discovered that he was only a low level hunter. What could he know?My questions were really just taunting and a way for me to pour out my anger. The hunter’s reaction was underwhelming to say the least. Instead of giving any kind of satisfactory reaction, he just cowered in fear through out the entire interrogation. It was actua
The forest was silent around us.I held the hunter down and stared directly at him. He stared back at me with a horrified gaze.I was in the middle of a very huge dilemma. How could I kill someone? It wasn’t like I didn’t believe I could. I had already seen that my strength greatly surpassed these humans. Right now the hunter was completely living based on my mercy. It turned out that they weren’t actually so tough when you took away their silver weapons. In fact, he was actually very scared.“What… are you?” The hunter asked again.I frowned at him, but I decided to answer him this time. I had not been able to make a decision on what to do with yet, so I decided to just reply him. Who knows? Maybe I would be able to come to some sort of realization after replying him. Or maybe I would be able to muster the resolve to simply kill him. “I’m a wolf.” I replied. I wasn’t going to hide what I was from him so I told him in the most direct way possible. I did it deliberately becau
I noticed the whistle immediately. My mind worked very quickly in that instant as I made the connection between the whistle the hunter had a the one that Phoenix had showed us.I remembered how Phoenix told us that the whistle was a way for the hunters to alert their other members. The hunter was far away from me. I had been very wary when I saw him at first and I didn’t even know what to do. But once I saw the whistle I knew that I could no longer back down. What I did now would have a great effect on our plan. The hunter was going to alert the other hunters in his team. Once he did that, there was no turning back.My entire body tensed up and I dashed forward. If not for the special circumstances then I might have had a different reaction to seeing a hunter. But there was no hesitation now. I just had to think of Phoenix and realize that this would be threatening his safety. That was enough motivation. Talk less of when I thought of all the others. I had actually grown an attac
Phoenix finished reviewing the plan with us within five minutes. Then it was already time for us to move on. I was a little hesitant at first, but I had no choice but to move on when I saw Rowena going. Oisin told us the direction of the camp and the estimated distance. Then he also told us the route to follow to get to our specific destinations. I listened carefully and made sure that I memorized everything he said. My hand trembled slightly as I secured the dagger Phoenix gave me to my waist. Why did I feel like this? I wasn’t someone who got scared easily. I hardly got scared actually. But now there was a faint sense of dear in my heart. It didn’t stop me from moving forward but it created a level of hesitation in me. I looked back at Phoenix as I left on my own path. He was already coordinating with both spirit animals to form a trap for the hunters. Like I said before, I had no problem with taking out hunters. I liked it actually and I would have loved to do it myself
“You will have to sneak your way into their camp, then get their attention.” Phoenix said. I pictured myself jumping out if the bushes in front of up to twenty hunters. What were my chances of actually surviving that? “I don’t want you to put yourself in excessive danger, so please be careful about it.” Phoenix said. But he wasn’t only speaking to me. He was talking to all of us. All three of us to be specific. When I thought of that number I wasn’t very encouraged. “Alright, Oisin tell them where the camp is. You’ll all need to work at the same time to give the illusion that they are being attacked from different sides. Your timing doesn’t have to be perfect but it should be close enough. Also make sure that you cover the entire perimeter by staying away from each other as much as possible.” Phoenix said. “If we are far from each other how’ll we coordinate our distractions?” Rowena asked. Phoenix’s face paled slightly. “That is also a good question.” He said. I was starting to
