LOGINProfessor Adams was halfway through his lecture on market structures when the door at the back of the hall creaked open.
I didn't think anything of it. People usually came in late all the time. Until Chloe grabbed my arm and whispered, "Oh my god. Don't look now." Of course, I looked. Trex. He walked in wearing a black hoodie and that confident smile that made half the girls in the Econ department blush. But it never worked on me. Not once. His eyes scanned the hall and landed straight on me. Like he knew exactly where I sat. He smiled wider and started walking down the aisle toward our row. My stomach dropped. "Is this seat taken?" he asked, already pulling out the empty seat next to me. Chloe looked at me, then at him. She knew I didn't like him. Everyone knew except him who I have told multiple times but he wouldn't listen . Before I could say no, he sat down very close. His knee brushed mine under the table and I shifted away immediately. "What are you doing here?" I whispered, trying to keep my voice low so Professor Adams wouldn't hear. "This isn't your lecture." "I switched sections," he said, like it was the most normal thing in the world. "I asked them to move me here. So I could be in the same class as you." My chest tightened. Not in a good way. In an uncomfortable way. Chloe gave me a look that said this guy is obsessed. "I told you I needed space," I said under my breath. "And I told you I'm not giving up that easily, Mila,he said softly, leaning closer. His cologne was too strong. "You know everyone on campus knows I like you. Just give me one date. One. I was about to tell him to leave me alone when my phone vibrated under the desk. My heart skipped before I even looked. I knew who it was. One new message. Andrel: Who is sitting next to you? My blood ran cold. I looked up at the window instinctively. His car wasn't there anymore. He had left. So how did he know? I looked around the lecture hall. There were almost a hundred students here. How could he possibly know someone sat next to me? Another vibration. Andrel: Mila. Answer me. Who is it? My fingers were shaking as I typed. its nobody pay attention in your meeting. It was a lie, and he knew it was a lie. Trex leaned in again, thinking I was texting a friend. "You look tense. Do you want to get coffee after class? Just to talk?" I didn't answer him. I couldn't. Because my phone lit up again. Andrel: Don't lie to me. I have eyes on campus. Eyes on campus? What did that mean? Was he having someone watch me? Or was he still here somewhere I couldn't see? My heart was beating so fast now I was sure Chloe could hear it. I quickly turned off my phone and shoved it deep into my backpack, like that would make the problem disappear. It didn't. Trex kept trying to whisper to me through the rest of the lecture, offering me his notes, asking about my weekend. I kept my eyes on Professor Adams, pretending to take notes, but my hands were sweaty and my mind was completely gone.I wasn't scared of him I was just scared of my feelings growing . The lecture finally ended. Chairs scraped. Laptops closed. everyone going home. I stood up fast, wanting to get away before Trex could follow me. "Mila, wait up," he called after me, grabbing his bag. I walked faster, Chloe was right beside me. We were almost at the hallway door when my phone rang. Not a text. A call I didn't know whether I should pick but my heart was willing to hear his voice. Andrel. My heart stopped. Chloe looked at my screen and her eyes widened. "Your dad's friend? Why is he calling you during class?" I couldn't answer her. I pressed decline. It rang again immediately. He never calls me . Something was wrong. I swallowed and answered with a shaking voice, turning away so Trex wouldn't hear. "Hello?" His voice was low, calm, and dangerously quiet on the other end. "Come outside. I'm in front of your building." The call ended. I looked up at the big glass doors of the lecture hall. And through them, parked right in front, was his black car He was back.He was back.I thought he left. I swear I watched his black car pull out of the campus parking lot after my morning class. I saw it disappear onto the main road with my own eyes.So how was it parked right in front of my lecture building now, like it had never left?My heart started beating so fast I thought I was going to faint right there on the stairs."Mila! Wait up!"Trex was still following me. He had his backpack slung over one shoulder and that persistent smile on his face that I had told him a hundred times I didn't like.Chloe looked at me with that weird gaze. She was looking between me and Trex, then between me and the black car parked at the curb. I knew she had a lot of questions, but this was not the time.We went down the last flight of stairs and I stopped suddenly."You guys can go home," I blurted out, my voice higher than normal. "You can go. He will take me home."Chloe frowned. "Who? Mia, who will take you home?"Trex stopped too. "What do you mean? We were suppo

The lecture hall was already half full when I walked in. I didn't look back at the campus gate. I didn't have to. I could feel his eyes on my back the entire time, burning a hole through my backpack until I disappeared into the building. "You're late again." Chloe didn't even look up from her laptop when she said it. She was my roommate, my best friend since freshman year, and the only person who could tell when I was lying. "Campus traffic was crazy," I mumbled, sliding into my favorite seat by the window. I dropped my backpack on the floor and let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. It wasn't traffic. It was him. Professor Adams was already setting up his notes at the front, but I couldn't focus. My heart was still beating too fast, too loud. The air conditioning was humming, but my skin felt hot. My t-shirt felt too tight around my chest. Everything felt wrong since that car ride. The ride was quiet. Too quiet. He didn't say a single word the whole way to campus. The
I walked away last night. Her mother called from downstairs, "Mila! Come down for breakfast!" and my whole body reacted before my mind could. I was already sitting at the dining table with a cup of coffee in my hand, pretending to be calm. Pretending like I hadn't spent the whole night thinking about one question. "Do you still love my mom, or would you ever love me?" That private question she asked me in the hallway was still ringing in my head. I walked away that night because I had no answer. Not because I didn't love her. God knows I do. But because I have never really sat down to think it through on my own. Do I still love her mother? Or am I trying to heal my past through her daughter? I was still battling with that when I heard her footsteps on the stairs. Then she came down. She was wearing a short and a sleeveless top, her long hair packed up, her glasses sitting perfectly on her face. She looked different today. Beautiful. Confident. Like she wanted to be seen. Like sh
I left before I would do something I couldn't control. "I need air," I told her, and I walked away from her in the hallway. My chest was tight. My hands were shaking. If I stayed one more second with her that close, in that red gown, I knew I would forget who I was supposed to be to her. I didn't go far. I turned into the side aley of the house, where the light from the party didn't reach. From there, she couldn't see me. But I could see her. Mila didn't move at first. She just stood there where I left her, her hands holding her beautiful red floral gown. Then slowly, she sat down on the ground. She didn't even care that her expensive gown would get dirty on the hallway floor. She just sat there. She wasn't crying. She wasn't making any sound. She just sat quietly, fixing her hair with her small hands. Tucking it behind her ear, again and again. Then she fixed her gown, straightening the flowers at the bottom. But her eyes kept looking back at the alley. The alley where I was h
Andrel POV:I still remember the exact day.It was two weeks after her 18th birthday. I had come to their house to see her father, my best friend. He was running late, so I waited in the living room with a glass of water in my hand, scrolling through emails I wasn't really reading. Then the front door opened.Mila walked in from school. Her school bag was hanging heavy on her shoulder, her hair a little messy from the day. She looked tired. Her eyes were down, lost in thought, and there was a quiet sadness in them. But even tired, she was beautiful. In a pure, innocent way that made the whole room feel softer. Then she looked up and saw me.In an instant, her tired face changed. She smiled. It wasn't a loud smile, it was small, shy, just with her eyes and lips. She greeted me, "Uncle Andrel."Something in my chest shifted. It was a strange, warm connection I couldn't explain. Like my heart recognized her before my mind could.I panicked. I forced a smile back, said a quick hello, and
