Chapter 6
(Someone’s POV) While Ana was speaking, I couldn’t help but admire her skills in business. Every issue that arose, she quickly resolved, earning the applause of the board members. However, Mr. Mercado stood out—he showed no signs of satisfaction. As the meeting continued, the discussion shifted to the disappearance of a large sum of money. Whispers began to circulate around the room, and the tension became palpable. The head of the accounting department was immediately called to present some documents. I could clearly see the anxiety written all over Mr. Mercado’s face; he was turning pale. The weight of the situation was heavy when our CEO finally spoke. "Everyone, listen," Ms. Anastasia Clinton, the CEO of the company, began as her aura grew more intense. "Over 200 billion has gone missing from our company. Only one person is responsible for this. Due to their negligence, I am extremely disappointed. I will make sure they crawl on the ground—or they will pay with their life." Along with her sharp words, Ms. Show, her PA, distributed documents for everyone to review. I turned my gaze back to Mr. Mercado. His condition was worsening—he looked like he was about to collapse. "Now, let’s proceed with the voting," said Ms. Clinton, glancing at the shareholders. "Who is in favor of appointing a new CEO?" Everyone raised their hands except for Mr. Mercado. Ms. Clinton's eyebrow arched, as did Ms. Tanya Show's. "Who is in favor of Mr. Mercado taking the CEO position?" the CEO asked again. No one raised a hand. A mocking smile played on Ms. Clinton’s lips, her eyes narrowing at Mr. Mercado. "No one? Okay," Ms. Clinton said. "Who votes to expel Mr. Mercado from the company?" Again, the majority of us raised our hands, causing Mr. Mercado to turn even paler. "What right do you have to gang up on me? You can’t kick me out!" Mr. Mercado shouted angrily. We all stayed silent, waiting for Anastasia’s next move. "Mr. Mercado, you have four days to return the money you stole. Tanya, call security to escort him out," ordered the CEO. "Yes, Ms. Clinton," Tanya responded quickly and rushed out. A few moments later, the security guards arrived to take Mr. Mercado away. "You will pay for this, Anastasia Clinton," Mr. Mercado threatened, but I saw no fear in our CEO’s eyes. Instead, she seemed amused by his threat. "Oh, I'm so scared, Mr. Mercado. Don’t try me. You don’t know me well enough," Ms. Clinton replied, bold and full of sarcasm. "Okay, everyone, let’s proceed to the next agenda," she continued, smoothly returning the meeting’s focus and gradually easing the tension in the room. As we discussed the upcoming company anniversary, the doors suddenly swung open. A little girl rushed inside, full of energy. "Oh my gosh! Why is it taking so long? I’m so hungry!" she shouted, making us all turn to look at her. Her face seemed familiar, but I couldn’t immediately place where I had seen her before. "Can you please shut your mouth? Can’t you see they’re busy?" said the boy who followed her, irritation evident in his voice. Their banter amused the room, and laughter erupted around us. "Ugh, Kuya! You’re always so grumpy," the little girl fired back. Their playful bickering made everyone laugh. As I watched the two children, I noticed how beautiful the girl was—like a living doll. Meanwhile, the boy was quiet and seemed very observant. "Those are the CEO’s children," someone whispered. I was shocked. I didn’t know Ms. Clinton had children—and twins at that! ‘Shit! That’s why they look familiar,’ I thought. They resembled their father—my cousin, Dave Santiago. As the meeting went on, I couldn’t stop thinking about the twins. My mind was so occupied with their family that I barely understood the rest of the discussion. Eventually, the meeting ended, and people started to leave. While walking out of the building, I overheard two men whispering while glancing toward the children. ‘So it’s true. My cousin really is the father of the twins,’ I told myself with a small grin. ‘This is getting exciting!’ I muttered, hurrying home to share what I had discovered at the Mondragon mansion. On the way, I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. Some employees even mistook my joy for something else. "Such a waste, he's good-looking but probably crazy!" I heard someone say. I immediately dropped my smile and glared at them, causing them to scatter and run away. However, as Mr. Mercado was being escorted out, something continued to gnaw at me. I couldn’t shake off the last look Ms. Clinton gave—like she was hiding something. I knew the loss of 200 billion couldn’t be pinned solely on Mr. Mercado. It felt like there was more to the story. As I exited the building, I spotted Tanya, Ms. Clinton’s PA, talking to a man I didn’t recognize. They exchanged some documents quickly, and she hurried off. Despite her professional image, there was a strange excitement in her eyes that I couldn’t help but find suspicious. "Who could that be?" I muttered, narrowing my eyes as I watched the man walk away. My mind swirled with theories, but I needed solid evidence. I decided to head back to the Mondragon mansion to think everything through. One thing was clear—I would get to the bottom of the missing money, and I was certain it didn’t end with Mr. Mercado. When I arrived at the mansion, I immediately saw Ate Merlyn smiling as she prepared some tea. "What’s the news, kid?" she asked. I paused before answering. "It looks like something deeper is happening at the company, Ate. We shouldn’t just be watching Mr. Mercado." She smiled, but behind her eyes, I could see concern. "You haven’t discovered everything yet, but you’re on the right track," she said thoughtfully. "Be careful. This game isn’t always fair." I felt the weight of her warning—but I wouldn’t back down. It was time to uncover the shadows hiding behind the company’s walls.Chapter 79EARLY MORNING: I woke up early to get things ready. I got up and went to the bathroom slowly because the doctor forbade me from straining my body. So I moved carefully to wash my face and brush my teeth.Afterward, I immediately called a nurse to help me get dressed properly, as my wound was still a little sore from yesterday's exertion. A nurse arrived and gave me medicine to relieve the pain. Even though my wound was still fresh, I didn't mind because getting my wife and children back was more important.I immediately told my staff that we were leaving to go to the GEMELLI PALAZZESE RESTAURANT.Our trip wasn't long; we arrived at the restaurant quickly. It was trending because of my chefs' antics, which made it popular. Upon arrival, I told the employees that when my wife and children arrived, they should act like ordinary customers and serve them well. I had my chef cook their three favorite dishes. They needed to be served when they arrived in the VIP room so that the t
Chapter 78"Are you alright, son?" my father asked as I woke up. I looked around and my gaze fell on the wall clock.'It's already 6 pm,' I thought."Water, please, Dad!" I said."Just a moment, I'll get some," he immediately left my side, so I slowly got up. I winced in pain in my chest."Don't move too suddenly, you need to rest," my dad said, handing me the water.I immediately drank it and gave him back the glass."Dad!" I called out, causing him to stop his pacing and turn to me. "I want to see my wife and children," I said. But he sighed and spoke."Hay! They're not here anymore. After what she witnessed, she and your twins decided to leave the country to protect the children. There was nothing I could do, so I respected her decision, son!" I sat up straight because of what my father said.I was about to stand up when he stopped me."Don't stand up yet, son! You might reopen your wounds," he said, but I wouldn't be stopped because I didn't want to lose them again; it would kill
Chapter 77Dave's POV"Where am I?" I asked myself as I walked down a dark path, unable to see a single light. Then I heard a voice, my mother's voice, as if she was calling me. So I quickened my pace down the dark path. I smiled when I saw a light ahead, and that's where my mother's voice came from. As I approached, my steps grew heavier and heavier as I walked towards the light, until I reached it and saw my mother playing with a young boy who had a smile on his face. But when I blinked, it suddenly disappeared. What I saw was different. It wasn't my mother anymore, but a woman in uniform who looked like she was studying at a university."Anastasia!" a man called out. But I was confused by what I saw because that man was me. "My love!" he called again. Then she turned towards me with a smile, even giving a flying kiss and waving."She's beautiful, isn't she, son?" I turned to the person speaking beside me."Mom!" I said, hugging her tightly. "I miss you so much, Mom!" I said, tears
Chapter 76I quickly invited them inside, while Viña said she wanted to go home first, so I just let her.THE NEXT DAY.The following day, I immediately prepared the twins because they were the ones who would attend the meeting in my place. In fact, they were even more excited than I was. I wasn’t sure if they could explain everything clearly enough to gain trust and close the deals.“Are you ready, Twins?” I asked them.“Yes, Mommy!” Xenna answered enthusiastically. Xenno, however, I couldn't tell if he was nervous or not—he had no expression on his face. His aura was serious, just like his father whenever he had something important to do.I suddenly missed him. It had only been two days, yet I already missed him so much.“I wonder how he is now…” I whispered to myself.“Let’s go, Mom,” Xenno said, snapping me back to reality. We immediately left the hotel and headed to a trending restaurant that our meeting partner had requested. I flagged down a vehicle and instructed the driver wh
Chapter 75Who wouldn’t want to give a reward when they're this sweet and affectionate? All the fatigue disappears when they’re the ones welcoming you home from work."The twins are so sweet and affectionate," I told the two of them. "By the way, twins, I have a business trip to Italy tomorrow," I added."Cuántas semanas llevas ahí mamá?" ("How many weeks will you be there, Mom?") Xenno asked. "Rest first, Mommy, put rest first because we just arrived from the Philippines yesterday," he added."Kuya is right, Mommy. You need to rest first. The twins will take care of your business trip," Xenna told me."Please trust me and the twins, Mommy. We’ll make sure to close the deal immediately. So trust us with the twins," Xenno added. "So you can rest. We don’t want you to get sick, Mommy."I smiled at what Xenno said. "Twins, Mommy will never get tired, because the ones who always give me strength are you and your twin," I told them. "So Mommy gets stronger because you two are always by my
Chapter 74 I didn’t prolong our meeting. I quickly discussed everything we needed to tackle.“La reunión ha terminado, puedes irte.” ("The meeting is over, you may leave.") I told everyone."Viña, por favor toma mis cosas y llévalas a mi oficina," ("Viña, please take my things and bring them to my office,") I ordered her."La sigo señora." ("Yes, Madam.")I left the conference room ahead of them and went to my office to review the documents I needed to sign. While entering the elevator, I noticed a janitress clutching her stomach, clearly in pain. I immediately approached her."Señora! ¿Estás bien?" ("Ma’am! Are you okay?") I asked, but she didn’t respond. Suddenly, she collapsed, and thankfully, I caught her in time. I quickly checked her pulse, relieved to find it still beating. Then I saw Viña carrying my things and called out to her,"Ven aquí, date prisa," ("Viña! Come here, hurry.") She quickly came to where I was."Llama al Departamento de Salud y envíalos a ver cómo está la m
