Suddenly lost in twin jade oceans, Briar was rendered speechless, snapping her mouth shut at once. Across, the hall, a shorter, dark haired girl, with silver eyes saw Briar’s reaction, and understood what was happening here and text Alyssa.

Text Message From: K.

To: Alyssa Smythe:

‘Get to Rei’s locker!! New girl has “Eyes” for him. She might be the One!’

She shoved her phone back in her bag and prepared to watch the show!

“I am so sorry. I didn’t see you fast enough to pull the door, are you ok?” Asked a tall, dark haired guy straight out of a steamy, emo or goth romance novel.

“Sorry, I, ah, don’t, I mean…” Briar huffed, frustrated at how flustered she had become by him. Boys always made her nervous, but her anxiety rest different this time. He reached down, grabbed her by the arm, helping her to her feet.

“Thank you. I shouldn’t be allowed to walk and text, or do any multitasking really. I’m Briar KingBear. Its my first day, and I’m considering going home.” She looked at the ground to avoid his eyes.

“I’m Rei Strauss. It’s not so bad here. I feel horrible, you’re not hurt are you?” He asked, genuinely concerned.

“No. I’m fine. I need to get going. I,” Briar was cut off by someone bumping into her from behind.

“Well, what do we have here? Rei, I didn’t know you did charity work?” a leggy, thin, blonde girl with designer clothes and minions in tow. Briar has been dealing with girls like this since 7th grade.

“Alyssa, don’t be a bitch. It’s her first day. Give her a break?” Rei asked her.

“Awwwe! It’s her first day. Isn’t it sweet?” she looked to her minions and made cheesy baby faces at each other, to which Briar rolled her eyes.

“I’m sorry, who are you?” Briar shot back, alarmed at how fast her anger came to the surface before she could stuff it back down.

“I just wanted to welcome the New Girl on her first day. I’m Captain and starting setter of the varsity volleyball team, Captain of the spirit squad, and 1st violinist of our school’s symphony orchestra, Alyssa Smythe.” She stood there, waiting for acknowledgment Briar was not about to give her.

Briar looked at Rei and thanked him for his assistance, walking by a smiling Alyssa. Let her think she’s won. Her downfall will be made more epic that way, Briar thought to herself. Rounding the corner Bri found her locker, which was tucked in a little hallway at the back of the building.

“Thank goodness, I am saved.” She breathed aloud. Locker A315, the last locker on the left. Sliding her bags off her shoulder, surprised at the size of the lockers, she could put her violin, laptop, and books in with a little room to spare.

Her 1st class was her least favorite subject, math. Briar has had a love/hate relationship with math over the years. She just figured her brain had to sacrifice something to make her talent in volleyball possible! The sacrifice might as well be numbers and the numerical system.

After math she had music theory, history, photography, writing, and finished her day with study hall, which she planned to skip and check out the coffee shop she had seen a couple streets down from the campus on her way here.

Briar smiled as she grabbed her math and history books, a notebook, music folder, and violin, shutting her locker door. She spun around, and walked right into Alyssa.

“What do you want, Alyssa?” Briar asked, totally done with the posturing.

“If you want your high school experience with us to be a pleasant one, stay away from Rei, stay out of my way with my team, and don’t even think about my 1st seat in the orchestra, you feel me?” Alyssa looked in her eyes, and Briar could have swore her eyes went from brown to a deep red, but she couldn’t be sure..

“I get it, you’re top dog.” If Briar only knew the irony of her words

“That’s right. You are a Skid.” She smiled as if she’d wounded Briar deeply.

“I don’t even know what that means, Alyssa. I’ll steer clear of you and your click as long as we stop meeting like this. Deal?” Briar looked her in the eye, slammed her locker shut, walking off to math.

“See you around, New Girl.” Alyssa laughed, walked by her, and into her math class. Briar face palmed herself, wondering if the universe eternally hated her. Head down, keeping her distance, Briar sat down at the farthest seat from Alyssa and her minions. The fact she was in the same class as Alyssa was bad, but Rei walking through the doorway, her day shattered.

“Hey Briar.” He said as he walked by her to sit next to Alyssa. Before she could react, Briar felt something hit her in the back. Briar got up out of her seat, walked over to Alyssa and her minions with the pen that hit her.

“Rei, keep your pet on a leash, please?” Briar snapped, slamming the pen on Alyssa’s desk, cracking the wood.

“You really want to do this here, New Girl?” Alyssa shot to her feet.

“Sit down, you’re making a fool of yourself, Alyssa. What do you think you can do to me that hasn’t been done to me a hundred times?” Briars eyes burning into the blonde’s eyes.

“Good morning class! Take your seats, please?” the teacher came in and broke up the confrontation before it got out of hand. 45 minutes later, just before the bell rang, Briar jumped out of her seat and made a beeline for the door. Alyssa must have had the same idea, but Rei put an end to it by holding her back so Bri could get away.

“What are you doing? Let me go. You don’t expect me to let that go unpunished?” she growled at him.

“Back off. I don’t know why you’re being such a bitch. I didn’t sign up for this. We need some space. I’ll call you. I gotta get to class.” Rei grabbed his bag and walked out after Briar.

“Are you just gona let him talk to you like that over the New Girl’s feelings getting hurt?” Misty, on of Alyssa’s inner circle asked.

“She won’t be here long enough to fill my shoes. Rei will get bored with his little human trinket soon enough.” Alyssa smiled darkly, the wheels in her head turning.

“Briar! I’m sorry for Alyssa’s behavior. She lives for conflict, and she’s set her eyes on you. That was my fault. Let me make it up to you by buying you a coffee after your last class?” He smiled at her.

“I’m not staying all day. She is going to be in the majority of my classes because of our music and volleyball schedules. I need to get away from here.” Briar rubbed the base of her neck with her hand.

“Are you ok? You look a little pale. Alyssa didn’t hurt you back there, did she?” He asked looking at her back where the pen hit.

“A pen isn’t going to hurt me, Rei. I think I just got too angry, and need to settle down. I have chronic migraines in situations with high stress. I gotta go.” Briar stumbled past him and headed right for the front door, she needed some air.

As soon as she got outside, she sat on the stairs, hoping no one was around to see her mental breakdown. Collecting herself, she stood and went to take one step and the blackness swirled around her, the last thing she saw was the ground rushing up as her body fell.

Preparing for the pain when the ground met her bones, she tried tucking herself into a ball in the hopes she wouldn’t break anything.

“Hey there! Are you alright?” a male voice asked in panic. She felt hands grab her and hold her to her feet, but she was still blacking out.

“Hey, stay with me.” The male exclaimed, easily picking her up in his arms and carried her to the medical wing, just in case her injuries were more than she showed.

The more she tried to fight the wave of darkness that was flooding over her, the faster she was being sucked into it.

“Artemis? What happened to her?” Rei asked him.

“She just about hit the pavement outside. Good thing I was there, or this beauty would have been hurt. Can’t you control your pet, Rei?” Artemis asked.

“You know who she is, don’t you?” Rei asked.

“Yes, brother, I know exactly who she is, and what she is doing here. Do you?” He asked Rei.

“She hasn’t emerged yet. Alyssa thinks she is just another human in a school of wolves. It needs to stay that way. Let me take responsibility for her, Artemis. It’s my responsibility to help her bring out her wolf.” Rei said.

“Did our weak mother tell you that before she died, or our father before he betrayed this girl’s identity to me?” Artemis barked, making Briar stir and open her eyes for a second before fluttering shut again.

“What the hell do you think you’re doing? Back away now. Briar is mine now.” Troy growled, pulling Briar behind him. “Are you really that stupid to believe you could mean anything to Briar? Let her emerge and decide who she chooses herself, no amulets, nothing to give either of us an advantage, just good old fashioned Nature decides?” Rei offered. “That sounds fair to me. I’m going through a lot of changes, I know what everyone means to me now, but after Kitsune, I’ll be different, I afraid I won’t be the same Briar.” She frowned. “You will be the same Briar, with a little more authority, and you will be able to knock just about anyone on their asses!” Rei smiled, winking. “Super! I’ll become a bully then? I don’t want to be anything like Alyssa, so don’t expect it.” She looked at Rei. “As for you, Troy. Your envy and jealousy are going to end up pushing me away. They aren’t attractive traits to have. These traits are flawed.” Briar smiled. Rei could see Briar wasn’t going to ge

Taking a few seconds to breathe, letting her brain catch up, and compose something smart to say, rather than confusing the situation even more. By the end of this conversation the connection between them would forever be altered. This has always been the part Kitsune hated the most. It has happened many times in her past. She came between twins of every generation her entire life, which was long. This time was different somehow, with the three of them only because Briar is a brand new human vessel, never tested, never pushed to fight like she should have by now. “Your sin of taking me against my will has been forgiven, Troy. I will not forget this so easily, but, I will forgive and understand your actions, thus far.” She said. “Your duality is going to be wicked if you train in properly. That’s What I love about you, Kitsune, you’re real and not much bothers you.” Troy said. “Thank you, Troy.” The way she touched Troy’s hand, Rei had seen enough. He stood, looking down at the two,

Caius, Misha, and Moon all crouched just beyond KingBear’s house perimeter, Misha and Moon laughing at their lack of defenders. Caius shook his head at them wondering how they had managed to live list long. “You’re too loud. Legacies just don’t train the same way as the old days. I miss those days.” Caius whispered, crouching between them. “You may have taken care of the small fries out here, but there is a secondary wave that will consist of high ranking Alphas we are closing in on now.” He scolded.“We are half a mile away from that house. How long will it take for each eave to run back and report?” Moon asked. “Not long. Oh, as an added benefit, we don’t know when they shuffle posts either. I’m going to assume its 2 to 3 hours away, so we have the time to do some damage. Use it wisely, and do things safe. We are here for a 3 day look around, are on a limited kill order, it sucks I know. Animikii just wants them to start believing he is descending on them enough to shake their fou

Rei Came into Bri’s room, sat by her bed as he had for the last few days. “How you feeling today, Bri?” Smiling as soon as she opened her eyes, “Hey, you. I never thought of you as a morning person.” She laughed. “I’m not either, but I can have coffee, you, can’t.” He teased her. "That’s a low blow, Strauss.” She giggled, coughing as she did.“Are you ok? I know I’m the last person you want to talk about what happened to you, but I’m offering my shoulder and ear.” Rei smiled down at her. "Why are you being so nice? You’re going to confront Troy, aren’t you? I warn you, he protected me when I had nobody there. He took my side, treated me with kindness,” Rei cut her off. “The amulets you two wear are to keep your true feelings in check, you and I are mates. I know you don’t feel it now because of the amulets.” Rei explained. “I’m all new to this whole wolf thing, where there’s a powerful wolf inside me that will emerge in under a week, changing my life, how I feel, what I want. I

After hanging up with Kyle, Rak-Sha took off in hot pursuit of the three wolves that were on the way to the KingBear home.“You both know we have a tail, right?” Caius asked the two of them. “Who is it? Kyle’s wolves are all surrounding his home, who would be left to follow us?” Misha asked. “One from Veil, like me. An ancient, dangerous, blood thirsty Eternal, Rak-Sha. He has an Alpha spirit unlike any other I have seen. He has managed to submit every wolf he comes in contact with so far, including Draken, Kitsune, and myself. Not just us, either, our wolves submitted as well.” Caius exclaimed. “That makes me feel a little nervous.” Misha said. “It should. If you’re not prepared for someone like Rak-Sha, you will be dead before you knew he was even there.” Ciaus warned. “Stillness will prove to be more deadly than if we keep moving.” He added, waking away. “This should be a party.” Misha mumbled under her breath. _--_--_ Kyle stood, running every senerio, trying his best to de

  • Madness Decends   32. Briar's Home!

Walking into Briar’s dark and silent room, Kyle looked at his daughter laying there, bruised, broken, and unable to speak because he and Noni had only wanted her to grow up to know life before service and duty. This is the repayment for her upbringing. He sat on the chair that was at her bedside and picked up one of her small hands, held it to his forehead then to his lips. When her eyes opened and saw him there, she opened her eyes wide, rubbing them to make certain she wasn’t dreaming. When the tears started falling he swept her up in a bear hug like he would when she was a child and hurt herself. “Bri, I am sorry for all of this. You should have been informed from the very start. Your mom and I only wanted you to grow up knowing life so you could become the one to save us all. That kind of stress should not be put on a child, ever.” He whispered. She placed her hands on either side of her father’s face. She shook her head, indicating there was nothing to forgive. “Troy?” Bri his

Scythe jumped off the Jeep before they were in the driveway, sprinting past them to ready places for the injured. Bursting through the door, Noni and Shae were the only ones there. “Where is the guard we left here for you?” “About 20 minutes after you all left, a Quad arrived, surrounded all of us, observed our guard, and took all of us by surprise. I need a rest. I used a lot of energy using my aura this time. A few of them got away. We haven’t had the chance to go off in search of who’s left or what direction they ran in. Sorry.” Shae collapsed, finally being able to breathe, relax, and let her guard down.“I’ve got you!’ Tris went to her, swept her up in his arms, and took her to the room across from Noni’s room. “Dove, bring Briar up to her room, and put Troy in the spare room at the end of the hall. I want Link, up there, one at each door.” Chief said, relinquishing control back to Kyle. “Take as much time as you need. We aren’t going anyw

Ten minutes after Noni received Briar’s call, she had informed everyone she could, while Shae called others. “Why isn’t she picking up? She just called!” Noni started hyperventilating. “Noni! Slow down. Briar is in enemy territory now. Chief and the others know how to handle situations like these. Let’s get ready for her homecoming?” Shae took Noni’s phone away.As soon as Dove heard the words out of Chief’s mouth, “Briar is alive, and she’s with another wolf, Troy about a block and a half to our,” an explosion forced them to the ground, as 2 cars exploded, one from behind, one in front of them. “What the hell was that?” Dove shouted, hands over his ears. Scythe stood, released his aura, sending typhoon like winds around them, clearing the fire and smoke to reveal 3 wolves in front of him. “Avery, Madox, and Kit. Hello again. These are the three Draken sent to assist Rei and Artemis right after Briar disappeared. My friends, why

Troy walked at a normal pace, to avoid suspicion, but when he got to the hallway before the floor where Briar was being held he broke out into a silent sprint to her room. Stopping short of the hallway to her door to listen as he heard 2 male voices and a female one in front of her door. “A doesn’t trust him after his little outburst in the meeting.” One of the males laughed. “He was the perfect patsy, Animikii was right.” The other male said. “If she weren’t into the ladies, Moon would bee perfect!” they laughed. Breathe, Troy. He told himself. You can’t get her out if you’re too pised to think straight. “What’s with his sister, though? If I had the chance to get my 15 minutes, I’d do it, family or not. When her training begins, I will be her first teacher, she’s going to beg me to stop!” one male laughed. “Maybe A will give us a fancy necklace so we can have our way with her as Troy has.” The other replied. “You two will
