Elodie’s POV

“Elodie, do you want to go to the new coffee shop near our university? I heard they serve great coffee there,” my best friend, Ella, said to me as our class dismissed.

I smiled as I shook my head, “I’m sorry, Ella. I have to go home early tonight. Also, I need to budget my allowance.”

“You always say that, Elodie. We barely have any time together anymore…”

“Oh, Ella. I promise I’ll come with you next time.”

She was pouting at first, but then she smiled at me and nodded her head. “Fine. I understand that you also have to do the assignments of that witch. Just don’t forget to take some rest, okay?”

“I will. Thank you, Ella.”

We hugged each other before she hopped inside her car and drove off. I have decided to just sit on a bench near the parking lot while waiting for the car that would drive me home.

Ella is one of my best friends since I was in middle school. She was born in a wealthy family since both of her parents are business tycoons. She is a jolly, adorable, and understanding towards me. She’s the one who helps me whenever I have a problem especially when it has something to do with money.

“Hey, why didn’t you go to my classroom to carry my things? What do you think of yourself, a princess?!”

I quickly stood up and faced Mia, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Denmarks, the family my Aunt Sally and I works for.

“I-I’m so sorry, Mia. I thought your class dismissal is still at five, so I have decided to wait here until then.”

“Shut up. I don’t want to hear your lame excuses!”

I was nine months old when my Aunt Sally found me outside her house. She told me I was a gift from God since she had always wanted to have a child.

“How’s school?” Aunt Sally told me as soon as I entered our room.

I ran into her and gave her a tight hug. “It’s good. Oh I missed you so much, Aunt Sally…”

“You silly child. We just saw each other this morning and you’re telling me that you missed me?”

I moved away from her and nodded my head. “That’s right. Even if I don’t see your face for a second, I will miss you.”

“How lucky I am to have a daughter like you. Hurry and change your clothes. I have prepared some food for you to eat. Eat then take some rest already, okay? I still have a lot of things to do in the kitchen since the Denmarks will be having a very important visitor tonight.”

“An important visitor?”

"Uh-huh. I heard Mia is already getting married next month and the man she is going to marry is a mafia boss."

My eyes widened, "A-A mafia boss? Aren't those men who kill anyone they want to kill?"

"That is right, sweetheart. That is why you should never bump into that man. Because they are ruthless and merciless."

"I see. But how about you? What if he sees you? What if he does something to hurt you?"

Aunt Sally suddenly laughed. "Oh, come on. I'm an old lady, so what can they get from me. Also, if they try to hurt me, then I'll show them what I can do. They might as well end up dead."

I laughed because of what she just said. "Aunt Sally, you really are such a brave woman."

"Of course, I am. That's what you got from me, right? Your bravery?"

"Of course!"

"Alright, alright. You should go and eat now. I'll be back later."

I nodded my head and smiled. "Okay."

As soon as Aunt Sally left, I decided to take bath before having my dinner. After that, I started reading books since our examination is just around the corner and I don't want Aunt Sally to be disappointed in me if I ever get a low score.

I want her to be proud of me, always.

Aunt Sally is not getting any younger. All her life she has been working for the Denmarks. My dream is to be able to finish my studies and become a chef. Then I'll take Aunt Sally with and leave this house. I'll give her all the things that she needs and we're going to spend the rest of our lives together.

I can't help but smile just thinking about the life I want to give to my Aunt Sally.

"Just wait for me, Aunt Sally. I promise I will give you a better life where we won't have to be servants anymore. I will make sure to make you happy," I mumbled to myself.

I didn't notice that I already fell asleep upon reading books. When I opened my eyes, I noticed that Aunt Sally still wasn't there on our bed. I looked at the clock and realized it was already eleven in the evening.

Where is Aunt Sally?

Do the Denmarks still have their visitor at this hour?

What if Aunt Sally sees the mafia boss? What if they decided to take her away?

"No! I won't let that happen!"

Wearing my pajamas, I went outside to look for Aunt Sally. Our room is located just behind the mansion at the garden, so it didn't take me a while to get to the main hall.

Upon entering the mansion, I saw the other servants running back and forth as if they were in a hurry.

"Elodie, what are you doing here wearing your pajamas?" Daisy, my other best friend who is also a servant asked me.

"I-I was just looking for Aunt Sally. Do you know where she is?"

"She's in the kitchen. Oh my gosh, if the madame sees you like that, you're going to be dead!"

"I-I was just--

"Hurry up and line up! Madame and Milord Denmarks have arrived!"

I wore a green long sleeves shirt paired with dark blue jeans which I like wearing whenever I go outside. I didn’t know where we were heading to, but I made sure I was wearing something that won’t make the young master look at me the way he looked at me at the boutique. “You just made it obvious that you’re a servant because of what you are wearing right now, Elodie,” Young master Henry commented the moment he saw me. “B-Because I am, young master. I am your servant.” “Hop in,” he said as he opened the car door for me. “I-I will sit at the back, young— “Elodie, I am not your driver. Sit where I am asking you to sit on,” he said while looking directly into my eyes. I nodded my head nervously, “Y-Yes, young master.” I slid in. The leather was cold through my jeans. He shut the door for me and walked around to the driver’s side. “Y-Young master, may I know where we are heading to?” I asked, breaking the silence between the two of us. He didn’t take his eyes off the road

"I told you! The young master likes you very much!" Daisy cooed while we were on our way to the market."No, he doesn't.""If he doesn't like you, then why would he ask you to bake cookies for him? And you know what? I think he also got jealous when he heard that you baked some cookies for your professor."I shook my head. "Daisy, young master Henry is engaged. Also, he would never have feelings for someone like me. I am just a nobody."“Come on.. Don’t you even watch dramas on TV? Rich men usually fall in love with poor women!”“That’s on drama, but this is real life. That can never happen here.”“Fine. How about you? Don’t you have feelings for the young master?”I was taken aback because of what she just said. I stopped walking. Daisy also stopped while looking at me skeptically.“O-Of course, I don’t. He is already engaged, Daisy.”“You didn’t have to stop walking just to say that…” she said, obviously not believing what I just said.“W-Well, I only stopped because we are already

  • Mafia King's Innocent Mistress   CHAPTER 17: GETTING ON MY NERVES

“So, why did you bake cookies for your professor? Don’t tell me you have a crush on him or what?” young master Henry said as I put the cookies inside the oven . My hands jerked. The tray clattered against the rack. I shut the oven door and turned around slowly. Young master was still on the bar stool, one leg crossed over the other. Pajamas, messy hair, but his eyes were sharp. Young Master eyes. The kind that got answers whether you wanted to give them or not. “N-no!” The word burst out of me, too loud, too fast. I curtsied without thinking. “Young Master, I don’t— he’s a professor.” His eyebrow went up. “So?” “So,” I said, flustered, “I don’t have a crush. I was just… I was careless. I ran into his building during the rain. I got his grant applications wet. With flour on my shoes. He let me borrow his umbrella so I wouldn’t get sick.” He was quiet. "And you bake for everyone who’s nice to you?” I blinked. “W-what?” “Just because of that, you decided to give him cookies?” My

My heart was beating so fast and my hands were so cold as we reached the Medicine building.“Elodie, just be polite. Thank him, give the umbrella back, and then leave. In that way, he wouldn’t be able to scold you,” Ella said to me.I nodded my head as I gulped. “O-Okay.”We approached the lady at the front desk of the building. She was a beautiful lady with a bob cut which suited her adorable face.“E-Excuse me…”She looked up at us and a smile immediately flashed on her face. “Hello there. How can I help you?”“H-hi,” I managed, bowing my head a little. “I’m… I’m here to return something. To Dr. Westwood? He… he let me borrow his umbrella yesterday.”I held it out with both hands. The wood was still a little damp from the rain this morning. I dried it as best I could, but I was terrified there’d still be a mark. The lady’s eyes lit up. “Oh! You’re the umbrella girl!”My whole face went hot. Umbrella girl. He told her about me?“Y-Yes…”“Oh, he’s in his office. Just knock on that doo

ELODIE’S POVI still can’t erase those words the young master said to me yesterday.“It looks like you think about that kiss all of the time.”Do I really look like that? My cheeks burn just remembering it. Well, I avoid him because I do feel awkward whenever he’s around, but that kiss… I’ve been trying to erase it from my mind. I try my best every single day to finally get rid of that memory.Elodie, stop thinking about that kiss now. What’s important is that I will never try to avoid the young master again. I’ll just act as if nothing happened. That’s right. In that way, he would be able to ignore me, too.I kept on mumbling to myself while walking, clutching my recipe folder to my chest. The rain made me late for my pastry practical, so I cut through the Medicine building. I’m not supposed to be here. I’m Culinary Arts. But Chef Dorman locks the kitchen at 7:50 and it’s 7:35.Just act normal. Like nothing happened. Like you’re not thinking about—Thud.I walked straight into someon

  • Mafia King's Innocent Mistress   CHAPTER 14: THAT SERVANT

Henry's POV Most men get nervous before a meeting with the Kuznetsovs. I get bored. Their boss, Viktor, sat across from me in the back room of The Obsidian, sweating through his cheap suit while his men fingered their guns like that meant anything. I didn’t bring guns. I brought Perry and two numbers on a piece of paper. Numbers that would bankrupt Viktor by Tuesday if he didn’t sign. “You’re asking me to bleed, Henry,” he said, tapping the contract. I smiled. The one that made my father’s enemies sign faster. “I’m asking you to breathe. Bleeding’s what happens if you say no.” Luca didn’t move. He never did. That was the point. Viktor signed. They always do. That’s my usual life. Numbers. Threats. Men who think they’re dangerous learning they aren’t. I walk out of rooms and buildings change ownership. I say a name and people disappear. Clean. Efficient. Cocky, as my father used to spit before he died and left me his empire. Then I get home to the Denmarks' house and my
