Chapter Twenty-Eight

"It's a boy," Scott announced, as we were standing in the hospital hallway. "A little Niko" he laughed with joy.

A smile formed on my lips, something swirled in my chest. Happiness is a foreign emotion for me, I don't feel it often. But I knew whatever I was feeling at this moment was bigger than just simple happiness.

I was an uncle now.

A second later, Niko stepped out of the room with a child wrapped in a blanket. He was staring at his son like he was something out of this world. His eyes held wonder, a look of utter disbelief. "I can't believe he is mine..." he said, mindlessly.

"Maybe, he isn't," Scott snorted which earned him a slap on the back of his head from Marco.

With a real smile for once in his life—the one without malice or darkness that always stayed with us—Niko showed him to me.

I took him from Niko and cradled him in my arms. I have never been this gentle with anything in the world, I was scared that if I moved I'd hurt him. Again, the same smile crep
