A drink or two would do, I said to myself as I walked through the crowd of people littered around the house. I tried to push away what I heard from my mind. Dante loved me and he probably had reasons he didn’t want to marry me.

I kept telling myself until I found a wine table. I grabbed one glass on the stack and downed the entire thing. Then I grabbed another and another. I took three in a row while I watched Dante giving his speech on stage.

The women who bad mouthed me walked into the hall, and they all smiled at me, mouthing a greeting.

“Fuck you all,” I muttered under my breath as they passed me by towards Dante’s direction.

He looked happy. I spotted one out of three women who bad mouthed me, smiling at him from the crowd. Although he wasn’t looking at her, I felt the weight of her words, so I grabbed two more glasses and left for the backyard.
