AURORA'S POV "Lola,” I seethed. I felt like ripping her eyeballs out. Just because she went out with Caleb some years back, she thinks he belongs to her. Unbelievable. “Leave me alone. I don’t have time for you,” I spat. “Oh, but I know. We shall see who Caleb chooses tonight.” She smirked. I felt like punching the smirk off her face, but that was so unlike me. “He’s not some prize to be won, Lola.” I rolled my eyes. “Besides, he’s my boyfriend.” “Did he tell you about last night? Oops, I guess I said too much now. Byee.” She giggled and left the seat, flipping her chestnut-brown hair before changing seats like the little devil she is. Wait, what? What happened last night? I hope it’s not one of her shady schemes. Caleb’s voice broke me out of my thoughts. “Tonight I choose my mate. One to stand by me till I become king.” I felt my heart beating against my chest. I loved Caleb so much. Everything about him shook my brain. “I, Alpha Prince, reject Aurora Gray as my mate,” he said, his voice firm and emotionless. “However, I choose my true love. Lola, you are my mate.” Gasps. Laughs. Everyone seemed to enjoy this, especially Lola. That snake. It made my blood boil. “Caleb…” I whispered under my breath. I felt hot tears trailing down my cheeks. Sammy shot a glance at Caleb before rushing toward me. “We belong together. We dated for months. What about us?” I muttered, loud enough for him to hear. Everyone knew Caleb was my man, and now? I felt like I was the only one who never knew the truth. Maybe deep down, I knew he was never mine but Lola’s. “I am not sorry, Aurora. I mean, look at you. You are weak. You have no magic, no wolf. Just plain blonde hair, pale skin. You’re the only weak one in the kingdom. You are just a human, in a wolf pack.” He said the last part with so much bitterness, it felt like a threat. My stomach twisted. My chest tightened and my breath hitched. No, no, no. This can’t be. We are meant to be together. “If you say so, Your Highness.” I held my tears, stood up, and walked out the thick doors. I heard their applause when I stepped out. I was not needed. I was useless to them. He was right. I had no wolf. I subconsciously rubbed my necklace, its cold metal and diamond-like heart sending chills down my spine. Suddenly, I felt the urge to run, and never look back. My senses tingled, and I sprinted. I felt someone following me, small and light footsteps. “Aurora, wait!” Sammy’s voice echoed through the castle. But I could not stop. I reached the castle doors. Sammy grabbed my arm tight and pulled me close to her chest. “My brother is such an idiot. I didn’t know he would reject you for real and choose Lola,” she said, barely catching her breath. She’s a wolf, running is her thing. I was surprised I didn’t feel breathless from running. Wait. “Wait…did you know about this?” I gritted my teeth. “Well… yes. It’s not as it seems. I thought he wasn’t serious last night. Lola came to the palace with her father. They made a deal for Caleb to choose her instead of you,” she explained. I felt my heart sink. Punch me already. “It’s all a deal for you people. I loved him,” I said, my voice shaky. Tears dared to fall, but I blinked them away. I was done crying in front of people. “No, Aurora, I am your best friend. I didn’t want to hurt your feelings.” “If you were my friend, you wouldn’t have let me come here for such humiliation,” I spat. Her eyes locked on mine. They glittered with tears against the moonlight. She reached her hand into mine. “Even if you are a useless human with no wolf, I love you. I led Caleb to you,” she said. “If you were not so plain, maybe you would have been chosen.” What? She thinks I’m useless too? Oh gosh. I felt a strong energy inside me. My necklace burned against my skin. Was it supposed to do that? I lifted her effortlessly. The guards began to surround me as I growled. My voice echoed like a thousand ancient wolves spoke through me. “You are just like the rest of them!” I threw her yards away with massive strength. The guards gasped. “Haaa! What did she do to the princess? She’s the only human here, how come she has such strength?” Guard One said. “Don’t just stand there gawking at her, fools. Seize her! She is trying to kill the princess!” Guard Two barked orders. He let his wolf out of the leash and smirked. Oh shit. I ran as fast as my legs could carry me. I don’t know where the sudden speed came from, I was always slow. Branches barely scratched me as I darted through the woods. I reached my house within seconds, branches stuck in my dress and hair. I quickly closed the door behind me and let out a deep breath. “I didn’t know you’d have the guts to return to my house.” A voice echoed from the shadows, a pair of red eyes glowing in the corner. My skin crawled with fear. Damn… “Uncle Dexter?!”DAMION’S POV “This is ridiculous, Damion. You are having a soft spot for this new maid of yours. You have many servants, yet you give Aurora the simplest tasks,” Sera growled as she strolled over to my dressing mirror.I rolled my eyes. It was true, I had given her simple tasks, maybe because I knew she wouldn't handle being by the castle borders and defeating rogues, demons, shadow monsters, and other creatures that constantly tried to get into my territory.“Are you jealous that she cleans better than you?” I teased, pulling the white sheet over my naked chest.“Maybe I am. You have been so close to her lately, and it's making me mad.” Sera let out a low rumble.“Listen, we've fucked a few times, but that doesn't mean I can't fuck any other female. Relax.” I got up from the bed, naked and slightly sweaty. After Aurora left to hunt with my pack, I felt uneasy. I needed to fuck someone to calm my nerves, and it wasn't working.I stood in front of the mirror beside Sera. Her eyes tra
AURORA'S POV I woke up with a bang on the door and an angry Sera standing in front of me.Her hand had healed, but it left a huge scar. An ugly scar. I felt bad for losing it and attacking her; I had never hurt anyone before, but for Jane I would. Jane had always followed me and urged me to play with her back in Velmoria. Apart from Sammy, she was the only little friend I had. “The king has summoned you,” Sera said through gritted teeth.I nodded and straightened my uniform. Thankfully, Mark left many pairs, but all in the same shade except one, which was red. I wondered if there was an occasion when I had to wear a red uniform.I followed behind Sera. I didn’t trust her; she could pounce on me any second.Lukas came from the kitchen with a tray filled with delicious food. He entered Griselda's room, and I heard a girl giggle.Jane? She’s still here? She can’t survive the torment here. Velmoria was better than here.I reached Damion's chambers, and he stood there with Mark, Sera, an
DAMION'S POV (The lycan king )I've lived a thousand lives. I've seen people find mates, have families and die, but I've lasted the test of time because of that stupid curse. I had never been drawn towards a female before, especially one I liked. Aurora seemed to be different, so unique. She was naive and pure and didn’t see how evil this world truly is.I got up from the bed and walked towards the door. She didn’t even protest when I said I don’t fuck virgins. Maybe it was for the best that I keep her as far away from me as possible.“You can leave my chambers,” I said, avoiding her gaze. Those icy-blue eyes and silver-white hair... Her sudden change ever since she got here was astonishing.“Never touch me again. I may be your maid, but I am definitely not a toy to play with. Unlike you, I have feelings,” she snapped. What was wrong with me? If it was another female, I would have ripped them apart. But her, she ruled me and Alex, my wolf.I opened the door and motioned for her to
DEXTER GRAY'S POVThose good-for-nothing lycans. I groaned as I kept limping. I wasn’t satisfied that I couldn’t get Aurora’s powers. That lycan king had rendered me weak. I should never have owed him shit.I reached the gates of Velmoria, the forests were dying, rivers drying, animals dying and it was dreadful. I loved it.The market sellers were in chains, new warriors marched the streets, and nobody was goofing around. We finally had some order.“Hey, move it!” A werewolf warrior shoved me from the back.“Watch who you’re messing with.” I gave him one glance, and he started screaming.I was still able to melt werewolves from the inside—my powers were just limited, never to be used outside the kingdom.“Make it stop!” the man cried out.“Oh fine… you’re such a crybaby.” I dismissed my gaze from him and walked straight to the castle.I wondered what Kael was doing. I entered the gates, and everything was a mess. There was no shade of light, everything was destroyed.“What’s King Ka
AURORA'S POV “Sera, you're hurting her.” A girl with short black hair got up from her seat and stood in front of Sera and me. “Do you know what the king will do if he finds you hurting his servant? Remember last time?”She glared at the girl coldly before letting go of her grip. That would definitely leave a mark.“It's almost midnight; let's go to the dining table for dinner,” the girl said. “I am sure Aurora made some nice stew.” She smiled at me before her gaze turned cold.We walked out of the room and into the dining hall.I wondered how long these lycans had been trapped here. I felt sad for them. What was their story? And why couldn't they just team up and defeat this curse? My hand subconsciously drifted to my necklace, and I started rubbing it lightly. This felt better each time.Damion arrived late at the table; no one started eating until he was there.“You'll die of hunger if you keep expecting me to show up first,” he said nonchalantly.“You're our king. This is our trad
AURORA’S POVThis is ridiculous. I may have been used to being bullied back in Velmoria, but I have never come across torment like Damion's.I dragged the heavy bucket of meat as I walked to the back side of the castle. There was a huge pond, it almost looked like a river. It was scary.Huge monstrous creatures came out of the water.“These ain't crocodiles, these should be demons,” I flinched, nearly dropping the bucket.I walked closer to the water and threw the chunks of meat inside, nearly falling over.“Careful, these creatures are deadly,” a manly voice echoed from behind me. “Here let me help.”“Uuh! Sorry, I didn't see you there.” I couldn't believe there were kind lycans here.I looked to my sides to make sure Damion didn't pop out of nowhere and shred me to pieces about what I wanted to do.“What’s your name?” I batted my eyes. He chuckled slightly and took the blood-smeared bucket from my hands. My tiny hands felt a sense of relief.“I am Lukas. I am one of the pack warrio
