Sapphire’s POVThe door closed behind Sophia.I stood there hoping that maybe all these was just big joke.My feet was rooted to the marble floor, they refused to move, it felt like I had forgotten how to.I feel Alessandro’s eyes on me. “You look surprised.” He said still watching me.I swallowed. “Why?”“Hmm.” He smirked, stroking his chin gently.“You didn’t say you were going to keep me.”A faint smile curved his lips. “I didn’t need to.”My fingers curled into fists at my sides. “Sophia said this was a negotiation.”Alessandro rose from his chair slowly, adjusting his cuffs. He looked calm but yet dangerous. With each step he took, I felt a pressure tightening around my chest. I forced my legs to stay still and not to retreat, nlt because I didn’t want to but because there was no where to run to now.“Negotiations imply equal footing,” he said evenly. “You don’t have that.”The words cut through like that of a blade.“What do you want from me?” I asked, my voice barely steady. He
Sapphire’s POVThe envelope burned in my palms as we piled into the long driveway of Alessandro’s estate.Sophia pressed her hands against mine “stay calm,” she muttered beside me. “We are just going in for dinner.” She said as her heels clicked on the marble floor.“Just” I muttered to myself, I wanted to laugh out loud because this did not feel like just dinner. It felt like we were presenting ourselves to be sacrificed.Everything here screamed danger. The way the guards scanned us from their duty posts and even how the building stood tall at the dead end of the road. This did not feel like an ordinary dinner. The front doors open before Sophia’s fist could meet with it. A tall man on suit with broad shoulders stepped forward. His eyes moved from Sophia then to me, “Sophia and Sapphire Giovanni?”“Yes!” Sophia answered immediately, in her usual calm and crisp manner.“Follow me” he said stepping aside. The doors shut behind us as we trailed behind him.Overwhelmed, that is the word
Sapphire’s POVI blinked Again Again and again… I blinked until the words stopped echoing in my head. My ears were working just fine but my insides seems to be in a twist, doubting the words papa had said. “The both of you need to decide who would end up with Alessandro.” The words echoed again and in that minute, I knew papa will always be papa. Plotting, scheming and using people to get what he wants.I didn’t like Alessandro, if for anything I did not want to be the one that would need to give up her life just to please papa. Alessandro is a dangerous man and his misdeeds knew no bounds. My lips parted slightly, but words failed to come out. Unlike me who froze at papa’s words, Sophia didn’t flinch, she just stared at papa. She would do anything to get papa out of here and retain his old glory, Sophia can go miles for papa but I don’t think I can. I can only try but it won’t be enough for either Sophia or papa.“I don’t think….”I tried to speak but papa cuts me off “I don’t nee
Sapphire’s POVI can swear it but that would be a little bit too extreme, but yes I can tell the universe came together to rip my family off its glory. I stare deeply at my reflection in the mirror, my skin looks really pale and my collarbones have never been this visible until now. I can easily say I am on a diet but in truth, I haven’t had a proper meal since papa got arrested and everything we own got seized.“Phi”The voice of my sister echoes from the hallways. I quickly shoved my things into the nylon bag, I took a glance at the clock hanging on the wall and I noticed that I had spent a reasonable amount of time getting ready. Sophia would be pissed at me but I don’t care, she is always angry at something so this won’t be the first time.“On my way” I yelled back, making my way out but then she was already almost in front of my room and I cannot miss the angry glares she sends my way.“What were you doing?” She snaps.I took a step back “just getting ready, Phia” I replied. Her
Alessandro’s POVI learned the meaning of betrayal before I knew what trust meant. The smell of burning cigarettes filled the house that night. The walls were silent, the lights dim. My heart pounded from where I hid behind the stairs“I will give you anything. Name your price.”My father dropped to his knees. He stretched his arms forward, his palms trembling as they hovered inches from the stranger’s shoes. I didn’t recognize the man kneeling there.“You need to pay the price for the Gosgrove project,” the masked man said, kicking my father’s hands away.“We know you reported to the authorities. You destroyed the brotherhood’s plans.”“I didn’t,” my father pleaded. “I swear, I didn’t.”My mother fell beside him, clutching the stranger’s trousers as though they were her last hope.“Please,” her voice shook. “He knows nothing about it. We can talk. Whatever you want, we’ll give it to you.”The man laughed. The sound was harsh, sharp, echoing off the walls like he was watching a poorly
