LOGINTWO MONTHS LATER…
*JANELLE*
Since Danica died, life has been a living hell.
I sometimes wondered how mom and I were still living each day. We had literally become shadows of ourselves struggling to process the loss.
What I did that night haunted me too much and I decided not to think about it anymore.
Because I might truly lose my mind if I think about how I painfully lost my virginity to save my sister and at the end, I couldn’t save her.
I thought life has been unfair to me but at this point, I think life just keeps throwing more and more blows at me.
Life wasn’t always this hard. Mom, Danica, me and our dad used to live together in Chicago.
My mom was from a rich family and when she got married to my dad, love made her sign off her inheritance in his name.
When I was little, I thought my father was a good mad. He had loved and taken good care of us but all of a sudden, he changed.
He started being abusive towards my mom and one day, when I was eleven, he sent us parking.
He left us with nothing, and told us to go far away from him.
I later go to know that he remarried and took in his new wife’s daughter as his own.
For the longest of time, I tried to understand why he’d do that but at the end, I couldn’t and I hated him for that.
Because after he sent us away, our lives were never the same. We struggled to make ends meet. It was tough but we could always get by because we had each other.
And now, I’d never been able to give Danica the life I promised her. I was so filled with pain and grief and I didn’t know what to do with myself anymore.
***********
Hearing the doorbell ring, I headed for the door thinking it was Esme.
She always came by to check in on mom and I.
But as I opened the door, I couldn’t believe my eyes.
It was my father!
Without hesitating, I moved to shut the door but he blocked it.
“Is this any way to greet your father?”
“You’re not welcome here!”I snapped but he was more powerful, he pushed open the door and walked in.
“Elle, who’s that?”My mom walked in and froze as she caught sight of him and then she lashed out.”You had the nerves to show up here? You couldn’t even attend your own daughter’s funeral!”My mom yelled.
“Can we not talk about the past right now?”My dad, or rather, Gary, because I refuse to see this man as my father anymore let out.
“The past?”I asked, incredulously.”I reached out to you for money for her surgery a lot of times but you wouldn’t pick up!”
“Because I didn’t have the money! The company’s going through some financial crisis.”
“Financial crisis? You’ve been saying that for years! If you had helped sooner, she’d still be alive! You devil!”My mom thundered, grabbing his collars.
“Calm down, woman. We need to talk about something important. The O’Connells reached out to me.”
“What’s my business with the O’Connells?”My mom snapped.
“Have you forgotten that Janelle was betrothed to the eldest son of that family.”
I frowned.
I was betrothed to someone?
My mom slowly let go of Gary.
“Is that true, mom?”
She stared at me and breathed.”Yeah, your grandfather and his were best friends and business partners. They made the arrangements. There was even a signed contract…”
“Good, I’m glad you remember. The O’Connells wants to know when the wedding will be held.”
“No. That won’t happen. I only agreed to it back then because no one could say no to my father. But since he isn’t alive anymore, Janelle will not be having an arranged marriage. She’ll only marry whomever she chooses…”
“Oh, cut the bullshit! Have you forgotten the penalty for breaking this contract? Right now, I do not have billions of dollars to pay as penalty. Besides, what’s so wrong with she marrying into that family. They’re filthy rich. She’s going to have a good life.”
“What right do you have to say that? Get out of my house this instant! You’re not welcome here!”My mom thundered.
“I’ll marry him.”I announced.
The two of them looked at me, surprised.
“I’ll marry him on one condition. My mom and I will return back to Chicago and take back everything that belongs to her.”
I had heard about the O’Connells. I had heard about the power and connection they had.
I also heard about the eldest son who was the heir to the family’s empire.
So I would be marrying someone that powerful?
It felt too unreal but I wanted to grab this opportunity.
I had suffered too much. I had lost a lot.
I refuse to lose anything more.
I didn’t care what this makes me but I didn’t want to be trample upon anything. I didn’t want to be placed in a situation where I would be completely hopeless and helpless.
I wanted power, I wanted revenge on my father and I wanted to be able to stand strong and never break down again!
The sun was gently hanging in the light blue sky. It was not hot but warm, just like wearing the soft cotton underwear that had been worn for a long time, wrapped around Janelle’s body. Even if there was a cold wind, she did not feel cold. The sunlight was perfect, but on the balcony in front of a courtyard sat a woman with loose black hair. The window of the balcony was open, and she could breathe the fresh air outside at will. But she looked very sad. The small balcony was installed with security windows. And she was imprisoned in the house. The door was locked and this was the only place she could see the outside. There was a servant, and the only one here was Marco. Since she was captured and came here, Marco had never left.Today, for some unknown reason, he left here.He looked like that he believed she had lost her memory and did not give her an injection, but in fact, it was not. He almost did not allow her to leave him for a second and even
It was a perfect plan. But why was he here?Shouldn't he be with "Janelle" at home after finding her?And then she would be handed over to Boyce to deal with. And Boyce had no evidence that she had committed a crime, so she could get away successfully. The moment when Ovan appeared in front of her made her feel uneasy.“Is Janelle not being coquettish enough to serve you..."Bang!Her voice stopped abruptly.Ovan didn't listen to her dirty words. His hand swept the strong wind, and the accumulated strength on his hands hit her face.Phoebe was caught off guard and fell to the ground with a crash. Even the chair was turned over. With a loud bang, a lot of dust was splashed. He squatted in front of her with one knee.“Don't play tricks on me. You don't know how much evidence I have that is bad for you, and I know how many things you think I don't. If you don't want to die, tell me honestly. Where
His voice trembled slightly. "She's on a business trip with me..."“Don't lie to me. I am not a fool. Where is my mommy? If you are really with mommy, then let her talk to me." Aiden interrupted him, his voice was a little hoarse.“If she is really with you, why can't her phone go through? She doesn't know that I will worry about her and miss her? She knows, so she won't do that."This child was so meticulous that he didn't hide anything from him.Ovan did not know how to tell him.He had never been so helpless. In the face of Aiden’s question, he was speechless.“Aiden..."“You don't have to explain. Tell me, where did my mommy go or was she in danger? Please tell me, I have never left her since I was born. I am the only man in my family. I said I would protect her..."In the large living room of the villa, Aiden stood by the sofa and looked so small. His eyes were red, and the bright tears
“Is it possible that someone else did cosmetic surgery and pretended to be Janelle?”Cosmetic surgery?Suddenly, Ovan turned around. There was a hint of coldness on his handsome face and a deep look in his eyes.Their eyes met, and Boyce's eyes slowly widened. He understood why Ovan reacted like that. "Yo…you suspect that she isn’t Miss Moore? Someone had plastic surgery and pretended to be her?"Boyce felt it was incredible. "Phoebe is locked up in the police station. Who would have done plastic surgery to look exactly the same as Janelle? I'm afraid that she couldn't do it in one or two days."At this point, Ovan couldn't give an answer. But he was sure that the person they found was not Janelle. How could a person's character change so quickly?Boyce carefully recalled the process of finding Janelle. "At that time, following the clues found near the bar, we checked the monitor and found the van that
The doctor put the needle into the medicine box and said, "Okay, I'll go first. Call me if you need anything."“Okay."The doctor glanced at Janelle, who was hiding in the corner, and he closed the door of the room. Janelle’s heart skipped a beat.As the door was closed, she became more vigilant.“Look, the doctor has left, and you don't need to receive the injection." Marco moved slightly toward her as he spoke.“You, don't come over." Janelle was in a panic. She had too many questions. Why was she here? How could Marco be here? Was this a conspiracy of Phoebe and Marco? In the rental house, she saw Phoebe. She still remembered how surprised she was when she saw Phoebe at that time.“Do you feel very surprised to see me? And how did I know what happened to you before?"She was confident in her words and actions. However, Janelle panicked. She looked at her and asked, "H
Why couldn't she say that she had hurt her throat?“Thank you, doctor." "Janelle" breathed a sigh of relief. This was good. With the doctor's words, Ovan would not doubt her voice. After all, she could do plastic surgery on her face, but it was difficult to make change her voice. "You're welcome. This is what I should do. We should do our best to deal with the patients brought by Mr. O’Connell."Many advanced medical equipment in this hospital were supported by Ovan’s company, and they were even more respectful to Ovan. There were a lot of rich people. How many people were willing to contribute to society without asking for return?Because of the funding of Ovan!: company, they saved a large sum of money from buying medical equipment. In terms of treating patients, they reduced a lot of charge and helped a lot of people who had no money to see the doctor.“Janelle" could tell that the doctor was respectful to Ovan, an
