“One hundred and fifty thousand dollars?!”My friend, Esme let out looking shocked.
I buried my face into my palms, helplessly.
"She needs the surgery urgently. The doctors have been trying their best to keep her stable while my mom and I tried to raise the money, mom’s working two jobs, I’m working three but we’ve only been able to raised 10,000$, if we don’t get her the treatment soon, something bad is going to happen.”
“I know you don’t like talking about your father but right now, his help is needed, have you reached out to him?”
“I’ve swallowed my pride a lot of times and gave him a call, he picked up once and told me not to bother him. After that, he stopped answering my calls.”
“That father of yours is really something. I have some money saved up, I’ll send it to you.”
“Do you have up to $150,000 saved up?”I joked, but it came out, miserably.
My heart was filled with great bitterness at the moment which made me feel like I was losing my mind by the minute.
I found everything unfair. Why me?
Why my family?
Why was my sister going through this?
“$150,000.”Esme let out as if she still didn’t believe the amount.”There has to be something we can do.”
I lifted up my head and stared at her.
“I heard strippers get tipped off nicely if they perform well.”
Her eyes widened at me.”You’re going to be a stripper?”
I nodded.”I’m considering it.”
“Elle, can you even pole dance and no, no. That kind of job doesn’t suit you. Heck, your mother doesn’t even like the bartending job you do here talk more of becoming a stripper.”
“I’m running out of options, Esme.”
“Janelle, what are you doing chitchatting during work hours?!”My manager’s voice sounded.
I flinched as I turned around to face him.
I had come out of the bar to meet up with Esme when she told me she was around.
I had badly needed someone to talk to.
“You should go in now. I’m going to find a way. I’m going to go ask some friends, even take a loan if I have too.”
I nodded and quickly hugged her, then I hurried back into the bar.
I had no faith in what Esme had just said.
Esme was a struggling young girl like me, there was no way she could get that sum of money and I wasn’t expecting her to either.
I was just hoping for a miracle.
My sister, Danica was just fifteen, she had her whole life ahead of her and I had promised her a good life someday.
She’s had a heart disease since she was nine and right now, it has gotten worse.
She needed it operated on and I had to get the money.
But how?
I felt confused, sad, angry at the same time.
Ten minutes later, I was standing beside the bar stand, in a crisp white shirt and a maroon vest, watching wealthy and average looking people at the dance floor.
“Two martinis, one dry, one dirty please.”A man called from one end of the bar.
“Coming up.”I retorted and got to work.
The night dragged by painstakingly slow.
I watched as a woman came to sit at one of the barstool.
She must be in her late thirties or early forties but either way, she looked sophisticated.
She was a beautiful redhead, wearing fashionable white rimmed glasses.
She smiled at me and I nodded, curtly at her.
I couldn’t even force a polite smile back if I wanted to. I was too drained to.
She ordered a frozen margarita with some slices of lemon on the side.
“Why do you look so sad?”She suddenly asked me.
I blinked.”I’m not.”
Even if I wasn’t in the right state of mind at the moment, I still had to abide by the bar’s rules and regulations, to be polite to customers and keep them always happy with our services.
“I know sadness when I see one, honey.”
I nodded, curtly at her again hoping she’d stop trying to make small talks with me.
I didn’t want to share my problems with strangers right now.
“Let me guess, you have money problems?”
“Who doesn’t?” I let out before I could stop myself.
“What if I tell you that I have a job offer that will earn you $50,000 tonight?”
I frowned at her.
According to the bar’s rules, we couldn’t really talk about money with customers.
We accept tips, discreetly.
But talking about this kind of amount was unheard of.
But I was desperate and even if I knew nothing about this woman.
I was interested in her offer.
“How?”
“Firstly, you have to answer this question. Are you a virgin?”
Why was she asking that?
I answered truthfully by nodding.
“Great, and because of that, the amount is doubled, I’ll give you $100,000”
My jaw dropped.
Was she being for real right now?
The sun was gently hanging in the light blue sky. It was not hot but warm, just like wearing the soft cotton underwear that had been worn for a long time, wrapped around Janelle’s body. Even if there was a cold wind, she did not feel cold. The sunlight was perfect, but on the balcony in front of a courtyard sat a woman with loose black hair. The window of the balcony was open, and she could breathe the fresh air outside at will. But she looked very sad. The small balcony was installed with security windows. And she was imprisoned in the house. The door was locked and this was the only place she could see the outside. There was a servant, and the only one here was Marco. Since she was captured and came here, Marco had never left.Today, for some unknown reason, he left here.He looked like that he believed she had lost her memory and did not give her an injection, but in fact, it was not. He almost did not allow her to leave him for a second and even
It was a perfect plan. But why was he here?Shouldn't he be with "Janelle" at home after finding her?And then she would be handed over to Boyce to deal with. And Boyce had no evidence that she had committed a crime, so she could get away successfully. The moment when Ovan appeared in front of her made her feel uneasy.“Is Janelle not being coquettish enough to serve you..."Bang!Her voice stopped abruptly.Ovan didn't listen to her dirty words. His hand swept the strong wind, and the accumulated strength on his hands hit her face.Phoebe was caught off guard and fell to the ground with a crash. Even the chair was turned over. With a loud bang, a lot of dust was splashed. He squatted in front of her with one knee.“Don't play tricks on me. You don't know how much evidence I have that is bad for you, and I know how many things you think I don't. If you don't want to die, tell me honestly. Where
His voice trembled slightly. "She's on a business trip with me..."“Don't lie to me. I am not a fool. Where is my mommy? If you are really with mommy, then let her talk to me." Aiden interrupted him, his voice was a little hoarse.“If she is really with you, why can't her phone go through? She doesn't know that I will worry about her and miss her? She knows, so she won't do that."This child was so meticulous that he didn't hide anything from him.Ovan did not know how to tell him.He had never been so helpless. In the face of Aiden’s question, he was speechless.“Aiden..."“You don't have to explain. Tell me, where did my mommy go or was she in danger? Please tell me, I have never left her since I was born. I am the only man in my family. I said I would protect her..."In the large living room of the villa, Aiden stood by the sofa and looked so small. His eyes were red, and the bright tears
“Is it possible that someone else did cosmetic surgery and pretended to be Janelle?”Cosmetic surgery?Suddenly, Ovan turned around. There was a hint of coldness on his handsome face and a deep look in his eyes.Their eyes met, and Boyce's eyes slowly widened. He understood why Ovan reacted like that. "Yo…you suspect that she isn’t Miss Moore? Someone had plastic surgery and pretended to be her?"Boyce felt it was incredible. "Phoebe is locked up in the police station. Who would have done plastic surgery to look exactly the same as Janelle? I'm afraid that she couldn't do it in one or two days."At this point, Ovan couldn't give an answer. But he was sure that the person they found was not Janelle. How could a person's character change so quickly?Boyce carefully recalled the process of finding Janelle. "At that time, following the clues found near the bar, we checked the monitor and found the van that
The doctor put the needle into the medicine box and said, "Okay, I'll go first. Call me if you need anything."“Okay."The doctor glanced at Janelle, who was hiding in the corner, and he closed the door of the room. Janelle’s heart skipped a beat.As the door was closed, she became more vigilant.“Look, the doctor has left, and you don't need to receive the injection." Marco moved slightly toward her as he spoke.“You, don't come over." Janelle was in a panic. She had too many questions. Why was she here? How could Marco be here? Was this a conspiracy of Phoebe and Marco? In the rental house, she saw Phoebe. She still remembered how surprised she was when she saw Phoebe at that time.“Do you feel very surprised to see me? And how did I know what happened to you before?"She was confident in her words and actions. However, Janelle panicked. She looked at her and asked, "H
Why couldn't she say that she had hurt her throat?“Thank you, doctor." "Janelle" breathed a sigh of relief. This was good. With the doctor's words, Ovan would not doubt her voice. After all, she could do plastic surgery on her face, but it was difficult to make change her voice. "You're welcome. This is what I should do. We should do our best to deal with the patients brought by Mr. O’Connell."Many advanced medical equipment in this hospital were supported by Ovan’s company, and they were even more respectful to Ovan. There were a lot of rich people. How many people were willing to contribute to society without asking for return?Because of the funding of Ovan!: company, they saved a large sum of money from buying medical equipment. In terms of treating patients, they reduced a lot of charge and helped a lot of people who had no money to see the doctor.“Janelle" could tell that the doctor was respectful to Ovan, an
