Aspen
The whole crowd ducks to the ground as we hear gun shots ring into the night. The humans scramble, screaming as they shove each other to find cover. Coven kids do their best to use spells to block the bullets while the wolves help the humans escape.
I scan the crowd to find Maliyah but she is no where in sight. Davina has Aiden in her arms with Accalia and Thierry clinging to her.
“Aspen have you seen Maliyah,” says Davina.
“No I haven’t, I’ve been looking.”
“Find my daughter please. I have to get these kids out of here.”
I scan the crowd again, taking my time so I don’t miss her. She should be easy to spot with her silver hair. Davina disappears with her younger children while Derek stays with me to keep looking for Maliyah. I finally catch a glimpse of her silver hair but my heart sinks.
“Maliyah,” I yell out as I see her g
MaliyahThis is really starting to get old. My shoulder feels stiff and I groan as my body protests my movements. I open and eye and thankfully the lights are off, meaning it’s the middle of the night. I look around and see Luca and Chris standing guard at the door, but no Aspen.‘Terra?’‘We’ll be fine. Thankfully the silver bullet was removed.’‘Are you okay?’‘A bit drained, but I’ll be fine as well. You may have been asleep for about a week though, I needed to build up my strength.’‘A week?’‘On the bright side, we can shift again.’Well that is a plus. I am glad Terra has fully healed that we can shift again.“Maliyah, you’re awake,” says Luca as he comes into the room, followed by Chris.&ld
MaliyahI wake up the next day feeling drained. I did not sleep well after learning Kira died. Whoever attacked the pack I am sure was after me and that makes me feel even worse. It feels as if it’s my fault she died. I continue to lay in bed, staring at my sister’s picture as the sun peaks through my curtains. I’ve heard several people come knock on my door all day but I don’t answer.“Maliyah?”“Luca?”“Yeah it’s me, can I come in?”“I guess.”Luca opens the door with a smile on his face while I just continue to stare at the picture. He quietly closes the door and doesn’t turn on the light which I am grateful for. He walks over to my bed and sits at the foot of it.“It’s almost three in the afternoon and you haven’t come out of your room. Are you alright?”I don’t answer him and I feel the bed move as he lays acro
MaliyahWe arrive at the conference room and I realize that everyone has arrived in person. Alpha Brian of the West Coast bear Pack is here with his mate Neera and Interim Alpha Henri is here with his mate Sarah. They’re raising the previous Alpha’s son when he and his mate Camille died from the attack on their flock in France. Little Andre should be about six by now. Alpha Ghalen is also here with his sister Amara. It looks like Ghalen has yet to find his mate. Lastly, Dimitri is also here to represent the coven and elder Katla is here representing the dragons.Everyone gives me sad smiles, which is annoying, but I am glad they are not asking me how I am doing. I have been getting that question a lot lately and I am tired of answering it. I let Aspen lead me to two empty seats next to my parents just as the meeting is set to begin.“Good afternoon everyone. Thank you for coming,&rd
MaliyahI am glad my parents didn’t make a hug deal about me leaving the meeting. I know I asked to be a part of pack business, but today I just can’t. I have been feeling quite depressed lately and I don’t know why so I decide to head to the cemetery to see my sister.I slowly make my way through the pack to the family mausoleum. I can sense border patrol following me and I am a bit annoyed by it. I already have my protection detail following me, which they are not good at hiding or don’t care that I know they’re there.“Go away,” I growl out, making the wolves scatter.I don’t understand this anger. I don’t even know who I am angry at. I walk into the mausoleum, using my powers to make the flowers bloom again as I make my way to where my sister is. A deep sadness creeps in me as I pass family members who also died in the war. Uncle Owen, aunt Keila, un
MaliyahThis last week has been pure hell. They think I haven’t noticed, but I have. My protection detail has doubled from what I was originally told. There are two permanently stationed in my apartment and like twelve in the condo across the street. They’ve done a pretty good job of remaining invisible, but I can still sense they are there. I may not see them, but I can smell and feel their presence. It’s really starting to annoy me. I swear even when I go to the bathroom, some of the female warriors follow in after me.Aspen has been staying over every night, not that I am complaining but I know it’s to keep an eye on me. This has gotten so out of hand even Olivia and Oliver are getting annoyed with the shadows that are following us. They’ve started to make excuses as to not go anywhere with me and I don’t blame them. It’s hard to have fun and let loose with a small army watchi
MaliyahI sit up in bed and scan the room. I look at my clock and find it’s six in the morning, I must’ve slept the day away yesterday. I slowly make my way to my door but stop as my hand rests on the door handle. Yesterday had to have been a dream right?I open the door and two warriors immediately stand. Aspen is with them, making coffee in the kitchen.“Maliyah, I didn’t expect you awake so early. Are you okay?”I don’t immediately answer as I stare at the floor where the warrior collapsed.“Is he okay?”“He is fine Maliyah. Awake and spending time with his family.”“So it really happened, I am really the target. I am endangering everyone, I should leave. I should…..”“Shhh, calm down Maliyah. Take deep breaths, it’s okay.&rd
MaliyahIt has been about two months since the funeral and nothing has happened. School has resumed as normal and everyone acts as if the attacks never happened. I stopped receiving flowers or any threats of any kind. I highly doubt whoever this person is just gave up. Something is going to happen soon, I can feel it.Dad finally backed off some of my guard but not all of them. I still have two outside my door but at least I have privacy and none are stationed inside my apartment. I went from twelve guards to six so at least I can feel like I can breathe again.I head downstairs early to help the morning shift open. After Olivia, Oliver and I have breakfast we hop in my car and head to school. It’s been busy after the holidays and the basketball team has been on fire with winning every single game so far.
MaliyahThe boys were successful in getting the kegs into the shed and locking it before the shift change ended. Luca mind linked me last night to let me know. He could’ve waited until I saw him again today in class, but another part of me was excited to hear from him last night. This disturbs me as I shouldn’t be excited to hear from him and yet I let him distract me from my time with Aspen.Luca has been passing notes to me all day in our classes we have together and we almost got caught once. He’s funny and very charming. I have about five more months until my birthday in July and it makes me wonder if I’ll still have the same feelings for Aspen or will Luca be confirmed as my fated and those feelings will trump the ones I have for Aspen. That thought scares me, I am not sure I want things to change. It is times like these th
