Fired.

Lyra

   January 05/ 2020

Few minutes ago, she'd walked into the manager's office with a smile plastered on her face. When he'd called her, she was hoping for a good news like ' you've been promoted' 'oh, there's been an increment in your salary to commend you for your good work'.  if anyone deserved all that, it should have been her.

"I'm fired!? Why!? " she asked alarmed as she stared wide-eyed at the blue–eyed guy in his seat with a slicked back  black hair, behind the office desk.

She'd worked with her blood, sweat and tears for this company for more than five years! She didn't get or understand why she was being fired.

"Well, we feel your services are no longer needed so, you have to go with the rest being laid off." He said with a broad grin.

"Why? What have I done to deserve this?!" She asked with a shaky voice as she bit back the tears that threatened to fall down. No! She wouldn't give him something to rejoice over. She wouldn't let him think he'd succeeded in breaking her. She wouldn't let him see her cry.

"That's why you should have listened to me from the start. The boss wants just one night with you. Couldn't you have been generous enough to give him that? But no. You had to shame the boss. You turned him down with a slap." He said mockingly, arching a brow.

He'd called her to his office and tried to touch her! What was she supposed to do? She'd tried to politely turn his advances down. But he wouldn't listen.

"What would you have me do? Let him touch me with those filthy hands?!"

"Well, now it has cost you your job. You have to leave. The boss wants you gone before he returns." He replied and she could hear the sarcasm dripping off his voice. He was enjoying this, that she could tell.

"Fine." She got up and walked towards the door.

"Lyra," he called, "why don't you just suppress your pride and plead? Who knows, the boss might just reconsider. It doesn't kill you know. Let the boss in, and trust me, you'd enjoy both him and this company. All the other girls does. The offer is still open."

She turned towards him with anger, rage and pain coursing though her veins. She clenched her fists tight till her knuckles turned white and her nails dug into her palms in an attempt to refrain herself from slapping him hard across the face.

"You can take your offer and shove it down your fucking ass! You know, on a second thought, don't you think you should also give yourself to him? Maybe you'd stop being a measly manager who's nothing but a bootlicker for the boss!" walking out, she slammed the door shut. Not even waiting for his response. As much as she would have loved to see him go red with anger, she had to do something about the tears that welled in her eyes and tried to break through.

Storming into her office with chest heaving from anger, she leaned down below the desk and pulled out the box underneath. Stuffing it with her things. Glancing reluctantly at the office once more, she walked out.

When she'd gotten into the elevator, she punched the button to the first floor, other employees walked in chattering happily. She clutched her box closely, sniffing when she caught a teardrop that tried to escape with her thumb.

Getting to the parking lot, she settled the box in the car trunk. She sat herself down in the car, resting her head on the wheel. Bringing out her phone she dialed a number, it went through after few rings and a small voice with a French accent spoke at the other end of the phone.

"Hey girl! Was just about to call. Just got home. I've got good news." She said, excitedly.

As much as she would love to hear her good news, her bad news was overwhelming. "Oh, okay. Tell me about it." She sniffed.

"What's wrong? And don't even lie to me. I know something is wrong. You sound like someone just knocked the lights out of you." She inquired.

"I –" she paused, heaving a burdened sigh as she let the tears that could no longer be contained drop. The woman at the other end of the phone said nothing, just waited for her to complete her words that had petered into silence.

"I just got fired. Today."

She gasped, "oh! How? Why?"

"The boss wanted me and–" she sobbed and after a few seconds, managed to calm herself. She continued, " I wouldn't let him. So he had me fired."

"That asshole! I wish I was there, I would have killed him with my own bare hands! Cry it out my poor baby, it's going to be fine. It's going to be fine."

She gently repeated the words "it's going to be fine." While she bawled her eyes out. Breathing heavily.

After weeping for more than a few minutes, she quieted down. Then

Kat spoke,

" I wish I was there with you. I'm so sorry for not being there for you."

"You're always there for me Kat, being in Paris has taken a lot of toll on you already. So, Tell me." She sniffed,  wiping off the tears. " The good news."

"Oh, it's not that much of a good news yet. Pierre and I got engaged, after I'd found out I was already carrying his child." She scoffed.

"It's a good news! I'm happy for you. I'm finally becoming a godmother." Smiling happily, she couldn't contain her joy even though she had an issue going on. She was truly happy for her but Kat on the other hand merely just kept quiet.

"You're not happy? " she asked, concerned.

"No! I am. Just worried and scared. I would be a mother soon, but I know next to nothing about parenting and childbirth. What if I panic?" She said and Lyra could sense she'd already began to panic.

"Calm down, don't worry, once the child is out, your parenting instincts would surely kick in. And I'm sure there are tons of classes for parenting and child birth."

She breathed in and out. " Okay. Okay.  Be strong for me. That way I can also be strong." She said cheerfully.

"Alright, I will. Gotta go, talk later."

"Okay. Bye." She said, and Lyra ended the call.

Turning on the car engine she zoomed off to a life of uncertainty, shattered dreams and zero job.

As she drove into the highway, she had wind down the car window letting the cool night breeze in. She clicked open the glove box and brought out her alcohol flask. Flicking off the lid, she brought the flask to her lips, swirling her tongue around it. On a second thought, she realized it was a bad idea to drink while driving.

She closed the flask. She would save that till she got home. After she'd ran herself a warm bath, she would drink away her sorrows.

A truck driver whistled happily to Billie Holliday's 'when you're smiling' when a bat flew in latching right unto his neck. He'd screamed when he'd felt it's fangs sink into his neck. In his wild attempts to pull away the mad bat which wouldn't release it's hold on him, whilst maneuvering the vehicle, he'd lost control of the brakes and had accidentally stepped on the accelerator when he'd swiveled right into another moving vehicle.

💀💀💀☠️☠️☠️☠️💀💀💀☠️☠️💀💀

Just as Lyra opened the box glove to put back the flask, her eyes caught a glimpse of a car somersaulting through the highway.

"Oh my God!" She screamed.

Lyra barely had a glimpse of the truck swiveling towards her, tried to get out of it's way and almost blacked out immediately as the truck crashed into hers.

Regaining a little bit of her consciousness, she groaned, screaming hoarsely as the car swiveled violently rolling down the highway. Letting out a shriek, she felt something pierce her legs and the popping sound of a broken bone filled the air.

By the time the car had stopped rolling, she'd been impaled by countless shards of glasses and metals. Blood gushed out from numerous cuts and wounds she'd aquired.

The bat flew off and a great fog arose from the bat, and from the fog, a dark silhouette began to take form. A few minutes later, where the bat flew stood a man in a black knee length coat. His silk midnight black hair touched his waist.

Beside him was another bat–turned–female Blondie.

"My Lord! Look what you've done again. You promised the elders there would be no harm done this time around!" She shouted, placing a hand on her head, as she let out a frustrated groan.

"Oh come on! This isn't my first rodeo." He said nonchalantly licking the dried blood off his lips.

"You bit a man in a moving truck! Soon, lots of those cars with red and blue lights on them would swoop in, and the truck driver would start to tell tales of how a bat tried to drain him dry of his blood." She scowled.

"No harm done, see? Nobody got–" he paused abruptly, his heightened senses at their full function.

"My Lord, what's wrong–"

"Shhhh" he cut her off, "I smell blood."

"Blood?" She tried to sniff, then she caught a whiff of the scent of blood.

"Oh no. Someone got hurt!" She cried out running to the other end of the road.

🕳🕳🕳🕳🕳🕳

And I smell trouble. *snickers*
