ログインDAMON
He watched Lucian walk away with angry eyes. Then he turned back to Eveline. “Was he the one? Did he give you that mark?” “Don’t touch me.” Eveline yanked her arm free from his grip and walked away, heading back to the waiting area. Damon followed, trying to keep his breath under control. He could feel his wolf rearing inside, rising to answer to his temper. “Evie, can you stop and listen to me?” he growled. She slowed down to collect her purse from Tammy. “I don’t have to do anything you want,” she said. “Yes, you do. I am your fiance, and you still need me to complete your father’s payment.” She stopped, and Damon felt a small smile tug on his lips. His family had been financing Marcus Hale’s treatment for a while now, even sending their best healers. And he had no doubt that they would come forward now as well, but only if he said so. “You can’t just turn your back on me,” he said calmly, drawing closer to her. “Let’s just forget any of this happened. We get married and we can get your father all the help he needs.” Eveline stared at him, her mouth slightly open in disbelief. “Forget that you cheated on me with my stepsister on my engagement night?” “You have to understand. She came on to me and-” “Was there even any point where any of this meant anything to you? Did you ever love me?” He scoffed. “Of course I did. You’re going to be my wife, and we’ll rule the Vale pack together.” “Then why would you cheat on her?” Tammy snapped. Damon felt his temper rise again. Why did he have to keep begging and going over this? Eveline belonged to him, and he was an alpha. Heir to the Vales, and a powerful pack at that. He didn’t have to explain himself to anyone. Least of all, to her and to her bloody friend. “That’s enough,” he growled. “Let’s get back home, and we’ll talk better.” Eveline scoffed. “Fuck off, Damon.” She turned back to the elevator but he grabbed her again, yanking her back. “Let go of me,” she snarled. “After all I’ve done for you…” Damon’s eyes flashed red, his claws digging into her skin. “You don’t get to walk away from me.” A hand clamped down on Damon’s wrist the next second. He hissed, releasing her almost immediately, then turned to find Lucian was the one gripping his hand. “This is my hospital,” Lucian said in a cold voice. “My territory. I will not allow you to hurt anyone here.” H shoved Damon backwards, then pressed the button on the wall beside the elevator. The doors slid open and Eveline stepped in with Tammy. “You will pay for this,” Damon hissed. “I’m waiting,” Lucian replied with a lazy smile. “Till then, you can take the stairs and get the fuck out of my hospital.” Damon stormed out of the hospital, his wolf fighting to tear its way out of his skin. He managed to keep it in, suppressing his claws and fangs as he walked up to his car. That bastard. Just who the fuck did he think he was? Waltzing back into the city and growing the balls to lay his hand on him. And on Eveline. He couldn’t stop thinking about how close he stood to Eveline, touching her neck. And that mark… “Oh, I’m gonna show you, Uncle Lucian.” He got into his car, drove straight to the Vale mansion, and stormed into the building. The servants were cleaning up the remnants of the engagement party from the night before. Some of them were wise enough to stay out of his way once they sensed his anger. Some were not so lucky, and they got knocked aside if they stepped into his path. He headed to his father’s study and found him standing by the tall window overlooking the yard. Elias Vale turned as soon as his son walked in. He was a short, squat man, lines marking his face with old age. But his eyes retained their harsh alpha glow, his muscles still stood out under his sleeping robes. And his voice thundered as he asked, “Where were you?” “I was looking for Eveline.” “You were looking for Eveline?” Elias snarled. “She was here all night, welcoming guests and making sure the engagement dinner was a success. So, Damon, where were you?” “I was...I was handling something,” he mumbled. Elias’ voice rose dangerously as he moved away from the window. “And it was more important than securing this marriage alliance? Do you even remember why you need to marry that half-breed?” Damon’s jaw tightened. “The engagement is still on. We don’t need a dinner to-” “She is the last of the Grays, you fool!” Elias roared. His fangs were out now, and so were his claws. Damon swallowed and dropped his gaze, shrinking from his father’s fury. “Marrying that girl will give us a hand in their territory! And you couldn’t be bothered to be present when it matters?!” “The engagement is not off,” Damon said. “Our pack is still strong-” “Strong?!” Elias slammed his fist onto his desk, and the wood cracked. “You are an even bigger fool if you believe that for one second. There has been multiple attacks on our patrol lately. Of course you wouldn’t know that, not when you’re out partying and wasting your damn life.” “I am not getting any younger, Damon.” He sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. “And honestly, I wonder if you have what it takes to lead the Vale Pack.” Damon’s head snapped up. His anger boiled to the surface as he blurted, “I found uncle Lucian. He’s returned.” Elias froze. “What?” “I saw him at the hospital, where Eveline’s father was admitted.” He felt a bit of triumph as he added, “I believe he’s already making moves on her, claiming her.” Elias turned back to the window. He was silent for so long, that Damon took an uncertain step forward, wondering if he said something wrong. “At the precise moment that our borders are attacked, that you are engaged and Marcus falls ill….my brother appears.” “Too much of a coincidence, if you ask me,” Damon agreed with a nod. Elias turned again, and waved a hand at him. “Go deal with it. And try not to disappoint me.” Damon grinned, finally allowing his claws to slip out. “Sure thing, father.”EVELINEThe next morning, Eveline didn't step out of her room. She woke up with the time on the bed displaying 7:43 AM, and started to pull off the blanket when she paused. Then fell back on the bed, staring at the ceiling, replaying the events of last night. Everything that happened up until his appearance at the bar. How did he know where she was? Did he put a tracker in his scooter or something? And appearing when she needed him most was just…odd. It was too much of a coincidence. Then there was the aura he commanded when he walked in, the sheer power that radiated from him when he had chased off those boys. She could smell his anger a mile away. She felt her knees quake, even then, and now she found herself squirming on the bed. The ride home was a mixture of feelings. The way she had wrapped her arms tighter around Lucian’s waist halfway back, pressing her cheek against his back like he was an answer to her prayer. She told herself it had only happened because she was sca
DAMONIt had been a week since Elias asked him to delay with the Lucian problem. A week of tearing through every contact he had, of sending out lowlife spies in the pack to pin down exactly where his uncle was.And yet, nothing conclusive. Lucian’s hospital records were a wall of professional bullshit: surgeries, board meetings, research grants. The man moved like a ghost when he wanted to. He came and left the hospital without warning and seemed to vanish whenever he was leaving. But nothing bothered Damon than the rumours he heard. And they all circled back to two persons: Eveline and Lucian. His spies all had some form of news or the other about Lucian. Some said that Lucian had married a lady. Others said that he was taking care of an old man in his residence, but a number of those people also said he was using the man for experiments. And when Damon checked, the math added up too neatly. Since that day at the hospital, Eveline had disappeared along with her father. He ha
LUCIANHe had spent the day at the hospital, losing himself in patient files and the quiet rhythm of the operating room. There was a surgery to be handled that afternoon, and he had spent the preceding days preparing for it. The surgery had gone flawlessly; a delicate spinal repair on a young beta. For those couple of hours under the bright lights, scalpels steady in his hands, Lucian had been in complete control. No fated mate pulling at his instincts, no lingering scent of roses haunting the back of his mind, no Eveline to distract him.Work was his means of escape. And he had had enough for one day. Now, as night fell, all he wanted was rest. The drive home along the winding forest road was quiet, headlights cutting through the dark. He had almost convinced himself the week of deliberate distance from Eveline was working. He assumed she needed space after that night on the dining table, but then, his pride had been wounded. So, the idea was simple. Eveline insisted she needed
EVELINEThe Timber and Tonic bar was a lively pocket of nightlife. It sat on the edge of the forest road, where trees met the city lights. A large neon sign stood atop it, with its name written in cursive, stylized with wolf fangs. And as Eveline killed the engine of the borrowed scooter, she realized the patrons were mostly, if not all, werewolves. Some wore tight jeans and leather, laughing and shoving each other playfully. Others wore little clothing, their eyes glowing in the dark and their fangs flashing when they grinned. Their scents all mingled with the fresh forest, and she almost wished she could shift. It seemed this was the only place to party around here, and the perfect place for her to seek her release. She tugged on her jacket subconsciously , before walking into the bar. She had it all planned out: go in, grab one drink, dance a little. And that was it. At the entrance, there was a little line. A burly bouncer with a scar across his jaw was asking for ID ahead. Sh
EVELINENothing really did start to make any sense. She couldn't find Lucian the next morning. He wasn't downstairs at the living area when she came down, not anywhere else. Not that she knew where to look for him. The villa was a very large affair, and she had no doubt that she could get lost if she wandered around too much. But she did know her way to the hospice wing, and that was where she went. Howard was inside the room, reading a book by the window, and he declared that it was alright for her to check on her father now. Marcus Hart was sleeping peacefully, on the bed, though still attached to a purplish drip. “Has he had anything to eat?” She asked. “Not yet.” Howard poked a finger at the drip. “But he won't lack nutrition.” “When will he…Will he…?” Howard gave her a gentle smile. “You need not to worry, dear. Be assured, Lucian will have your father back up again, in no time.” She nodded, shifting her gaze back to her foster father. “And…where is he? Lucian?” She asked
LUCIANThere was something different about her look all of a sudden, almost as if he had stolen her breath away. The light of the sunset itself poured in through the dining windows behind him, casting a golden glow across her face. Her eyes seemed to sparkle like confetti, and her skin seemed to glow brighter against the warmth of the light. He couldn't tell which one made him transfixed to the spot. And his thoughts revolved around the impossibility of it all; Alpha Lucian Reed, one of the most sought-after neurosurgeons in both human and wolf territories; felt butterflies fluttering in his belly at the sight of her.He hadn't given much thought to what it meant to be one's mate, but it was as cruel as it was enchanting. And it did seem like she had a charm that had reduced him to a man who needed a dose of her just to function. The thought was equal parts amusing and annoying. When he left the hotel that morning, he didn't think he'd look back. But the feeling that gnawed at his
