Xander's POV

We file out quietly. Henry falls in behind us as we move through the corridor, the sterile lights above us flickering faintly. The hospital is still, unnervingly so for this hour. When we step outside, the early morning air hits me—cold, sharp, clean. The sky is pale and washed out, the kind of blue that only happens just after sun rise.

I head straight for my truck, the last vehicle still in the lot. The others had taken the other cars home earlier. We climb in silently—Henry in the passenger seat, Zahra and Max in the back. The hum of the engine fills the quiet as I pull out of the parking lot and start toward home.

No one speaks. I steal glances at the rear-view mirror now and then. Zahra stares out her window, her face unreadable, exhaustion etched into every line. Max does the same, his jaw tight, hands resting on his knees. Neither of them looks at the other.

With everything that happened tonight, I hadn’t thought about it before now, but the image of them sneaking

Zarha's POVAfter breakfast, we report to the training centre as usual and take our seats in the stands. Liam, Morgan, and Jed stick close to me. Henry sits behind us with his little pack of idiots—Montague and Jameson included. At least they’re keeping their mouths shut now.The commanders and captains enter the room in formation, then Edwardo steps in behind them.He moves to the front, hands clasped behind his back.“Good morning, everyone. Those of you still working on your meditations, please proceed with Captain Ross.”He indicates a red-haired female captain standing to the right of the room. She steps forward as half the room stands. Morgan squeezes my shoulder as she rises, and Jed claps Liam on the back before heading down with her.Captain Ross leads them out, joined by several other captains.“Those of you progressing to Stage Two, we’re going to split you into two groups today. Half of you, please go with Commander Pearson. The rest with Commander Henderson.”He lets the

Zahra's POVMax: Good morning, beautiful. I missed you last night. Hope you slept well. XxxThe text brings an instant smile to my face.Goddess, I missed him last night. My first night back in the Task Force dorms... and I hated it. Despite the bed being infinitely more comfortable than that damn hospital cot, I barely slept. Max spent every night with me while I was there, and the last two, he cuddled me the whole time. Sleeping in his arms is honestly the most restful position I’ve ever found. You’d think being squashed into a hospital bed with one of the biggest guys around would be a nightmare — but for some reason, it wasn’t. Maybe Medus purring me to sleep helped. Whatever it was, last night wasn’t the same without them.I was released yesterday afternoon. The doctor’s thrilled with my progress. The latest bone density scan showed significant improvement, and with the supplements I’m now taking daily — plus all the red meat we’ve been eating — Zanthe has fully repaired my leg.

Edwardo's POVI pace the corridor, boots squeaking on the polished stone every time I pivot. The noise scrapes at my nerves. Not enough to truly grate, just enough to make me aware of the time they’re wasting. The council chamber looms beside me, doors sealed. Of course, they’re late.Fucking typical.I glance at my watch again, though I already know exactly how far behind they are. I detest lateness. Especially from men who believe power excuses a lack of discipline. But I don’t get to call them out. Not here. Not yet.‘Keep it together,’ Metis murmurs from the back of my mind. His presence is steady, controlled, always measured. He has never once risen to bait or chaos. I wish I could say the same.I force my arms behind my back, spine straightening, posture settling into the stance drilled into me over years. The second I do, the right-hand door creaks open.Elis, the council scribe, appears.“They are ready for you, General,” he says with a bow, stepping aside to let me pass.I me

  • Marked by fate   Chapter 120

Edwardo's POVI stride back toward the Task Force building, my mind grinding over the accusation in their eyes. I’m so fucking angry I can barely keep it contained. They agreed to let me invite her. Maybe not by name, but let’s be honest. Who else was it ever going to be?They still don’t see what she is. They never have.If she hadn’t mastered the technique as quickly as she did, her leg wouldn’t have shattered. She wouldn’t have tried to stand on the fracture. My thoughts flick back to her face in that moment, focused, determined, not a flicker of pain breaking her concentration. She grasped it faster than anyone I’ve trained. Ever. The five other warriors who’ve reached the breaking stage so far struggled. As expected. They’ll all need multiple rounds before it truly settles into muscle memory. That’s normal. That’s the process.I don’t think Zahra will need another round. At least, she won’t, if they don’t interfere. And I swear to the goddess, I hope they don’t.I shove the door

Edwardo's POVMy boots make a muffled thud on the thick carpeted floor as I march along the corridor towards His Majesty’s office.I have been summoned. No prizes for why. Everyone has lost their goddess damn heads that Zahra got injured. They have no fucking clue what an unbelievable asset she could be. All they see is her white wolf status and start wrapping her in cotton wool. They see something fragile.I see potential. I see incredible skill.I reach the large oak doors and pause. I suck in a deep breath and pat down my uniform, making sure it is as perfect as it was when I left my office fifteen minutes ago. Then I push the door open. The receptionist looks up as I enter the foyer and beams. Her eyes scan me up and down and I cringe inwardly. She’s always so fucking obvious. So many of them are. They all seem to like the goddess damn uniform when I actually have to put it on. Normally I prefer the task force green combat gear, but when I’m meeting with the King or the council, i

Lincoln's POVI pull out the blindfold and place it over my eyes. Sam steps in and does it up behind my head for me, and I’m plunged into complete darkness. Fuck knows what this thing is made of, because I can’t see shit. Not even light around the edges.Someone, Baxter I assume, clasps my shoulders and steers me into place. My stomach tightens. This is disorientating. I can hear my breathing way louder than normal, every inhale scraping inside my chest.Lex stretches in my mind.‘Focus on everything else,’ he says, his presence steady as he helps me tap into the sounds around me using his hearing. He comes forward, sharing space. It’s easier to let him in now that I can’t see anything. I don’t know why, it just is. ‘Use the air currents. The ground vibrations.’‘Help me,’ I implore. Fuck pride. I need him right now.He taps into his own senses, feeding the information into me. Suddenly the world shifts. I can feel air currents over my skin in a way I wasn’t aware of before. I pick up
