Eli

The words curl through me like smoke, catching on every raw edge. He doesn’t wait for an answer. His grip at my hip tightens, drawing me fractionally closer, until there’s no space between us but the thinnest thread of air and whatever’s left of my willpower.

The bond reacts instantly. Sharp, hungry, urging me to give in.

“You’d like that, wouldn’t you?” he murmurs, voice a slow drag of velvet over steel. “To feel exactly what you’ve been denying you want.”

My throat works, but no words come out.

His hand slides lower, over the curve of my ass, the heat of his palm branding my skin.

“Get on your back,” he orders, voice gone rough.

I don’t move fast enough and he rolls me over with insulting ease, the mattress dipping hard under his weight as he catches both my wrists in one hand and pins them above my head. His other hand drags down my chest, fingers splaying over my ribs, before sliding lower.

By the time his knuckles graze the inside of my thigh, I’m already burning up. His fing

RonanThe air is cold and sharp today. The kind of cold that wakes the senses, that makes every shift of wind feel like a whisper carrying someone else’s scent. We’ve been running the northern edge of Blackthorn for two hours now, and the trail is too clean for my liking. Too quiet after all the activity in the preceding days. Then I see it. A claw mark carved deep into the trunk of a pine, the sap still bleeding fresh and gold. The edges are deliberately ragged. This wasn’t a lazy stretch from a passing wolf, this is a signature.I step closer, palm against the grooves and inhale deeply. It’s someone from Redmaw, without a doubt. The wolf in me shoves against my ribs, all teeth and forward momentum. I can almost see them in my mind’s eye. A scout with too much confidence and not enough speed, thinking they can leave their stink on my border without consequence. It would be easy to follow the trail. Hunt it down. Tear it open.Instead, I roll my shoulders back and force the impulse d

LoranI know how to play the long game. It’s the only way to survive in Blackthorn if you’re not born into teeth and territory.Eli doesn’t.He’s still walking around like he can win people with that wide-eyed act and a mouth that doesn’t know when to close. The pack is still in its “he’s shiny and new” phase with him, but that will fade. I’ll make sure of it.It starts small. Always small.I drop remarks where they’ll land best. A mutter to a Beta about how I overheard Eli talking about Blackthorn’s market routes and how Ashgrave should look at using them. A comment to a Delta about how Ronan’s spending more time in his cabin than in the war room. A shrug and a glance, like I’m just making small talk, not standing there with matches in hand, ready to light the fuse. The trick isn’t to make anyone believe he’s a traitor outright. The trick is to make them wonder. Wondering is corrosive. It eats trust from the inside.I need to wipe that look from Ronan’s face. The tell-tale way he ‘a

Eli POVHazel’s warning should be easy to ignore. She’s given me the watch yourself speech before. Usually about Ronan, sometimes about the pack in general. But this time, it sticks. He’s not your friend. He’s not doing you any favors.Loran doesn’t give without taking.I told her I could handle it. That I don’t need a big sister hovering over me. But the words loop in my head like a song I can’t turn off.The problem is, I keep replaying it all wrong. Not the warning, but the way Loran leaned in, the subtle curl of his mouth, the almost lazy way he told me my stance was fine for someone who’d just started trying to keep up.It wasn’t just what he said. It was how he said it. Like he knew more about me than I’d given him, like he’d been studying me long before offering a single “tip.”I don’t like it. I don’t like how much it gets under my skin either. This morning I wake up already tense, like my brain’s been chewing on the whole thing all night. The mirror doesn’t help. There are fr

EliLoran is waiting when I arrive at training. Not Hazel. Not Jace. Loran. He’s leaning against one of the wooden posts like he’s been there a while, arms folded, his expression somewhere between bored and faintly amused. The kind of look people wear when they’ve already decided you’re not worth much.Hazel’s across the clearing, bent over a crate of practice weapons. She glances up, catches sight of Loran, and her mouth tightens before she goes back to rummaging.“Morning,” I say carefully, keeping my tone neutral.“Is it?” His smile is thin, more teeth than warmth. “You’re late again.”I bite back the obvious excuse. That Ronan had kept me in bed longer than I’d planned and I didn’t want to leave at all, and settle for, “Didn’t realize you were keeping time.”“I notice things.” He pushes off the post and starts circling me, slow and deliberate, like a wolf sizing up prey. “Like how you’ve been… distracted. Sore. Not as sharp as you should be.”“I’m fine.”“Mhm.” The sound is noncom

EliHazel’s got me on the ground again. Flat on my back, breath gone, the edge of her boot planted next to my ribs like she’s pinning a snake.“Still too slow,” she says, leaning down to offer me a hand up. “I swear, you fight like you’ve got someone who’ll be taking care of your battles for you.”“Maybe I do,” I mutter, letting her haul me to my feet. My muscles ache in that deep, satisfying way. Every stab reminding me of how Ronan consumed me last night. Every night. And morning. I never expected to like sex. Now I’m an addict. She snorts, clearly not impressed. “He won’t always be around to save your ass. And what if he needs saving someday? I’m sure you want to protect your Alpha.”“I’ll embroider that on a pillow.”Hazel’s halfway to telling me exactly where I can shove that pillow when Loran saunters over. It’s the only way to describe it. He doesn’t walk, he glides, every movement deliberate, like he’s just stepped out of some perfectly rehearsed scene.“You’re dropping your

LoranRonan never looked at me the way he stares at this new little trinket of his.Not once. Not when I stood in front of him with my head high, not when I bared my throat in subtle invitation, not when I made myself exactly what an Alpha should want in a consort.Strong enough to hold my own, loyal enough to make him look untouchable, compliant enough to make his life easy. And yet here I am, standing in the cold morning light, watching his eyes follow another.Eli.The little stray who couldn’t hack it in Ashgrave and ran away like a coward. I have no idea why Ronan picked up garbage and brought it back to camp, instead of disposing of it properly.I should have been able to crush Eli with a single hard sparring session, if only Ronan had given me the opportunity.Instead, he guards him like he’s spun from gold. Some kind of precious artifact that needs to protected. Like the rest of us are nothing. It’s laughable. Or it would be, if the sight of them together didn’t make my stomac
