Chapter 32

The night felt different.

Heavier.

Quieter.

Like the world had pulled back just enough to let something important happen.

Charlotte sat on the edge of the bed, her fingers lightly gripping the fabric of her dress.

Eli stood by the door for a moment longer than necessary.

Watching her.

Not speaking.

Because for the first time since everything started—

He didn’t know what to say.

“…You’re staring,” Charlotte said softly.

Eli exhaled and stepped closer.

“…I almost lost you today.”

Her expression softened.

“I’m still here.”

“But you almost weren’t.”

His voice was low now.

Honest.

Unfiltered.

“I heard what happened.”

Charlotte looked down.

“…I didn’t want to scare you.”

Eli moved closer.

Slowly.

Until he was standing right in front of her.

“You don’t get to decide that alone,” he said quietly.

She swallowed.

“…I just didn’t want to make things harder for you.”

Eli shook his head slightly.

“You being in danger is already the hardest part.”

That silence again.

But this time—

It wasn’t empty.

It was full.

Of everything they weren’t saying.

Charlotte stood up slowly.

Now they were close.

Too close.

Her hand lifted—

Rested lightly against his chest.

“I was scared too,” she admitted.

Eli’s breath caught.

“…Yeah?”

She nodded.

“…Not of them.”

A pause.

Then softer:

“Of losing you.”

Something in Eli shifted.

Deep.

Immediate.

He reached for her without thinking—

Pulling her into him.

Tight.

Firm.

Like earlier—but this time slower.

More deliberate.

“I’m right here,” he murmured against her hair.

Charlotte closed her eyes.

“…Stay that way.”

Eli pulled back slightly.

Just enough to look at her.

Really look at her.

And for the first time—

There was no confusion.

No distraction.

Just her.

His hand came up.

Brushed gently against her cheek.

Charlotte leaned into it instinctively.

“…Eli…”

He didn’t let her finish.

He kissed her.

Not rushed.

Not desperate.

But deep.

Intentional.

Like he meant every second of it.

Charlotte responded immediately—

Her hands gripping his shirt, pulling him closer.

Their breaths tangled.

Their movements slower, but heavier.

Each second stretching longer than it should.

Eli’s hand slid to her waist—

Holding her there.

Grounding himself in her.

As if she was the only thing keeping everything else from falling apart.

The kiss deepened.

Charlotte tilted her head slightly—

Letting him in.

Trusting him.

Completely.

A soft sound escaped her lips.

And that was enough.

Enough to break the last bit of control Eli was holding onto.

He pulled her closer.

Their bodies pressed together now.

No space left between them.

No distance.

Charlotte’s fingers moved to his shoulders—

Then around his neck.

Holding him there.

Not letting him pull away.

Not wanting him to.

“…Eli…”

His name came out softer this time.

Barely above a whisper.

But filled with something deeper.

Something real.

He answered without words.

Kissing her again.

Slower.

More intense.

Like he was trying to memorize her.

The way she felt.

The way she responded.

The way she stayed.

They moved together without thinking—

Until the bed was behind her.

Charlotte sat first.

Then pulled him down with her.

Neither of them laughing.

Neither of them stopping.

Because this wasn’t playful.

This was something else.

Something heavier.

Something they both understood—

Without saying it.

Eli hovered over her for a second.

Breathing uneven.

Eyes searching hers.

“…Are you sure?” he asked quietly.

Charlotte didn’t hesitate.

Her hand came up—

Rested against his face.

“I’ve never been more sure.”

That was it.

That was all he needed.

He leaned down again—

Kissed her slower this time.

Deeper.

More careful.

Like she was something fragile.

Something he didn’t want to break.

Charlotte melted into him.

Completely.

Her hands tracing along his back—

Holding onto him like she needed him.

Like she always had.

And this time—

Eli didn’t hold back.

Not the way he used to.

Not the way he had been trying to.

Because right now—

There was no confusion.

No bond.

No Kieran.

No danger.

Just her.

Just Charlotte.

The girl he chose.

The girl he loved.

The world outside faded.

Their breaths mixed.

Their movements softened into something quieter—

Slower—

More intimate.

And when everything finally blurred into warmth and closeness—

The night held them there.

Wrapped in each other.

Like nothing could reach them.

LATER__

The room was quiet again.

But different.

Charlotte rested against Eli’s chest.

His arm wrapped around her.

Holding her close.

Not loosely.

Not casually.

But like he meant it.

Like he wasn’t letting go.

Her fingers traced small circles against his skin.

“…Eli?”

“…Hmm?”

She hesitated.

Then said softly:

“…Are you… changing?”

Eli frowned slightly.

“…What do you mean?”

Charlotte shifted slightly—

Looking up at him.

“…That man… Kieran…”

A pause.

“…I feel like something is changing between you and him.”

Eli blinked.

Then—

He laughed.

Soft.

Surprised.

“…Charlotte…”

He pulled her closer.

“…That’s not happening.”

She searched his face.

“…Are you sure?”

Eli nodded.

“…I don’t even like men.”

A small pause.

Then he added:

“…And Kieran isn’t even human.”

Charlotte relaxed slightly.

But still waited.

Eli exhaled.

“…Everything that’s happening… it’s because of that bond.”

He looked down at her.

“…That pull I feel sometimes? That’s not love.”

A pause.

“…It’s just something forced.”

Charlotte’s chest loosened.

“…So… I’m not losing you?”

Eli smiled faintly.

“…You’re the one I chose.”

He pressed a soft kiss to her forehead.

“…That’s not changing.”

Charlotte closed her eyes.

Relieved.

Happy.

Safe.

ELSEWHERE — KIERAN__

The forest shook.

Branches snapped.

Wind howled.

A massive wolf tore through the darkness—

Faster than anything human could follow.

Kieran.

Out of control.

His eyes burned.

His movements violent.

Unrestrained.

Another enemy appeared—

Gone in seconds.

Torn apart without hesitation.

But it didn’t help.

Nothing helped.

Because what he felt—

Was worse than anger.

It was something deeper.

Something heavier.

“…He chose her…”

The thought echoed.

Again.

And again.

And again.

His claws dug into the earth.

His chest rising and falling heavily.

“…He gave himself to her…”

Something inside him snapped.

A low, dangerous growl ripped from his throat.

The forest fell silent.

Even the night pulled back.

Because the Alpha—

Was no longer calm.

SERAPHINA__

From a distance—

Seraphina observed everything.

Charlotte.

Eli.

Kieran.

And for the first time—

She was intrigued.

“…So he doesn’t want him…”

A small smile formed.

“…Interesting.”

Because no one—

Had ever rejected Kieran before.

No one.
