Chapter six

I couldn't tell the number of days that have been locked in here, with only a broth of some kind to feed on. Which couldn't satisfy my hunger. I was growing weaker and weaker with each passing day. After days of silence, I finally heard the creaking of the door and the sound of footsteps, till footsteps stopped just outside my door as I saw two men come into view. One was unlocking the door while the other stood behind him. After trying different keys, he finally opened the door and came in.

"Hope you are prepared for death himself," the taller one said yanking me off the ground and to my feet by my arm, while the other gripped my second arm.

" I would keep my hands to myself if I were you," l said through gritted teeth as I felt the taller one spank my ass.

"Still full of energy, aren't you ?" He laughed. How I wish to connect my fist to his nose. I don't know why these people keep shoving me forward, why don't they leave me to know how much I want to leave this place?

We got into the elevator, and as the door clicked shut I stopped my mind from thinking about my impending doom. After a few minutes, the elevator finally opened to a well-lit hallway, with a chandelier decorating the ceiling and the walls painted white leading to a door. We passed three doors on each side before we got to the door where the alpha was. The two guards looked at each other and then before they opened the door the short one with blonde hair whispered to me

" Don't look at him in the eyes if you don't wish to get him angry". Before I could thank or even spare him a glance, the door to the office opened revealing a massive oak desk flanked by two celling-to-floor bookshelves on each side of it, with the book stacked neatly on the shelves. The only illumination in the room came from the light sconce on the walls and the city light filtering through the large bay window behind the desk. A man was sitting in the chair wearing a black outfit and Evan was beside him. I didn't see much of him before I was thrown harshly to the ground by the taller guy. I hissed in pain as my knees hit the tiles harshly.

" What is your name?" Said the man who stood up from the chair he sat in seconds ago, walking past Evan and coming towards me. His voice purred in my ear, its deepness and huskiness sending chills down my spine. It was like it was compelling me to look up but I refused to add to my problem.

"Alaia," I said.

"Alaia," he said tasting the sound of it in his mouth. The way my name sounded in his mouth awoke the butterflies in my stomach.

"Look at me", and I did. I looked into his eyes and saw a tiny spark in his ocean blue eyes, it was mesmerizing and hypnotizing I almost drowned myself in it.

Immediately he looked into my eyes something flickered in his eyes, I think it was recognition but I wasn't so sure. My eyes moved from his eyes to his aristocratic nose to the high cheekbones and sharp angular jawline. The sharp contour of his face makes it seem like it's carved from granite. His dark glossy hair is effortlessly styled over thick-shaped eyebrows, the icy ocean blue eyes are framed by long lashes and they slant slightly downward but they work for him. No one told me the Alpha was this good-looking.

"Take her away Evan" he spoke, his words felt like cold water dragging back to reality. I looked at him confused so did Evan, for once actually shared the same feeling.

"What..." He was interrupted by his dark gaze. They looked at each other silently communicating in a language I didn't understand till Evan signed and came up to me reaching out a hand to me.

'Did I offend the Alpha? Were they taking me to where they would kill me?' I looked at him as a lot of questions ran through my mind.

Instead of taking the hand he offered, I rested my weight on my palm resting on the floor and raised myself from the ground. I moaned in pain as I mistakenly rested my weight on my injured leg, I heard a growl that shook me to the core, I looked up to see the blue color in his eyes gone replaced with black it focused on the injury on my leg which now has dried blood surrounding it.

"Be careful, Let me help you" he said quietly and I stood there shocked ' Did he just say he wants to help me ?' I asked myself not sure if I heard him right. What changed, was one day he was torturing me to force words out of me and the next he was offering help.

"Excuse me ?" I asked just for confirmation but he didn't answer me instead he carried me bridal style and I yelped in shock as he continued to carry me out and through another hallway and out of the building, walking past a lot of people who couldn't help but stare. He stopped at his car, managed to open the door to the passenger seat with me still in his arms, and dropped me gently on the seat. He closed the door and walked over to the driver's side, opening the door and Turning on the ignition.

" Seat belt " I was feeling hot and was surely going to get uncomfortable with a seat belt on but I didn't say anything instead I obeyed. I was sure he noticed my reluctance but decided not to say a word about it. Five minutes into the drive I felt like I was about to have a heat stroke. Heat stroke is what it looked like. I felt too hot to sit straight; I kept twisting and turning in my seat, I guess Evan noticed my discomfort because he asked.

"What's wrong?"

" Stop the car," I said feeling were on the wheel tightly." Please".

He looked at how I was sweating profusely and stopped the car. Immediately he parked the car at the roadside I jumped out. The midnight breeze whipped passed me and I took a deep breath. It almost felt like I was taking in air for the first time. It was refreshing but just for a few minutes till the hotness came and this time in full force, knocking me off my feet. Evan rushed to my side, holding my frail body as I struggled to remain conscious recognition flickered in his eyes and he began to panic.

"Stay awake," he said tapping me on the cheek as my eyes flickered. He looked at the road and me again thinking of what to do.

" The house is just a few miles away, just try to hold onto me," he said as he stepped back and started undressing.

"What is wrong with me?" I asked him. I was so confused, one minute I was okay and the next am not. At this point the hotness was unbearable, it felt like I had run a marathon and my throat was burning, only it wasn't my throat but all my body.

"You are shifting," he said as he lunged forward and shifted.

If I wasn't a hot mess I would have asked him how he managed to shift that fast. He was bigger than the one that bit me. He came forward crouched enough for me to climb on his back. I did so with my unsteady feet and held onto his neck as he raced to wherever our destination was. The wind brushed past me easing the hotness. I could only see the blur of trees as we wind past them. After what felt like hours which was only ten minutes we neared a big house and he slowed down running past the front yard to the backyard and stopped a few meters away from the garden. I would have marveled at how beautiful the house and the garden were if the heat wasn't worsening. He crouched, dropping me slowly to the ground while he rushed to the front door. After a few seconds, he came back with a bucket that I didn't know what was inside not until he poured it on me did I realize it was cold water. I took a breath of relief as the cold water ran over my hot skin.

"Water " I croaked out. He ran back inside and came back with a sippy cup and a bucket of cold water. gave me the sippy cup to drink and I drank, while he poured the bucket of water over my head my head.

" Strip," he said. I removed my sweatshirt and stood up to remove the pants. While struggling to remove the pants since the hotness was back Evan came forward to help. Just as his hands touched my waist, we heard a guttural growl from behind him, and that was when I noticed a dark figure in the woods far from us. Evan retracted his hands as quickly as they touched my skin and stood back. In a flash, the figure in the dark was now two feet away from me. After I managed to remove the pants leaving me only in panties and bra, I slipped to the ground feeling weak.

"Get more water," the Alpha said to Evan as he stood there and watched, his hand clenched tightly at his sides while Evan rushed inside. He grabbed a cloth that Evan brought and dipped in water then came forward and rested it on my forehead. Our closeness made something in me stir.

"It's your wolf," he said as if he knew the question I was about to ask myself. As if the thing was waiting to be introduced it howled at the back of my mind. I was about to ask more questions when a scream tore through my lips. My arm felt like it was broken and morphed into the most disgusting disfigured position. I was Shifting. It had begun.

Screaming

I couldn't tell if it was from me or a rabid animal dying a slow death. The Alpha was trying to hold and console me while Evan continually iced me down. Pain was an understatement for what I was feeling at the moment.

Next was my legs, it felt like someone used a sledgehammer to hit my legs and feet, hitting them over and over again. I don't think I ever screamed in my life until now. I was screaming like someone who was being burned alive. The next was my fang, they came in angrily forcing their way through my gum, making their presence known. Alpha noticed it and thrust a cloth soaked in cold water in my mouth, which eased some of the pain.

"Communicate with your wolf, it would be easier" his voice soothing me for a few seconds. My wolf was pawing at the back of my mind aggressively, eager to be released. I tried pleading with it in my mind to calm down so we could work as a team. I assured it, that it would surely be released but it should be gently so I didn't die in the process and it listened. It whimps and puts its tail in between its legs as a sign of submission.

Another crack

My backbone felt like it was also hit with a fiery sledgehammer. I hunched over in pain. Alpha tried to move me but I only cried out in anguish. I felt a cold rag on my back; cold unto the fiery lake that was my blood.

"How much longer ?" I barely croaked out. He stretched the sippy cup to my mouth and I drank noting a taste in the water. My face crunches in confusion as I look at him.

"Glucose" he shouted to Evan then back to me,"I don't know but you are doing great. The closer it gets to midnight the faster it will come". The next crack drew the last straw of energy and I felt myself slipping out of consciousness.

I could see the Alpha moving his mouth angrily and I wasn't sure whether he was talking to me or Evan and I couldn't comprehend what he was saying because it felt like I was hearing it from miles away. His hand was tapping me but I couldn't feel anything not even the ground that I laid on. Even if I didn't want to I was slipping away and I couldn't help but remind myself that nothing was fulfilled.
