Chapter 4: Not wanting the world to know

Juhee glares at him but a smile remains on her face, she's surely being sarcastic in this one.

Lucas smiles like a smart kid who knows everything despite her being sarcastic and warning him. “I understand, sister-in-law.”

He didn't understand anything. She told him not to call her sister-in-law, yet he called her knowing she doesn't like it. It's fun and all to him.

“You are surely stubborn. Fine! I understand it. Next time you come to the hospital, make sure you are really sick.” She whispers into his ear while giving him a devilish smirk.

The smile on Lucas's face fades away the moment she mentions his constant visit to the hospital.

Lucas shuts his mouth and even wants to make amends with her, but she ignores him with a straight face. It's calming to the soul to see him in despair.

“Juhee...” Lucas tries to talk to her, but she slips towards Jacob and smirks at him.

“He shut his mouth so easily? He is the most annoying one of us, how did you do that?” Jacob asks as he whispers to her.

Juhee smirks as she slips her hand on his shoulder and leans close to him. “I have his reign in my hand, dare he go against me?” She just says some confusing words which he definitely isn't able to understand.

The family gatherings like this are very draining to Juhee, she doesn't like standing at the same place for hours and hours and smiles like a mannequin, lifeless.

Instead of spending her time like this talking to everyone and smiling forcefully, she prefers to stay alone.

It's not like she is uncomfortable with people around, it's just that her work is very hectic, so the remaining time she gets after work, she wants to spend it on herself.

Everyone is present in the gathering, they are smiling, laughing, chatting and spreading gossip among each other. Jacob and Juhee's marriage is of course the highlight of today's event.

“How long do we have to stay here? I wanna go back to my room and get some rest.” She mumbled to herself with that fake smile on her face.

Right now, everyone is discussing their wedding as the marriage happened in such a rush, they all want to have a grand wedding and reception after that.

But the couple in concern of that matter has no interest in any kind of that thing.

Seeing how everyone is so excited and eager, she glances towards Jacob and pulls the corner of his shirt gently, asking for his attention. He looks at her, and is simply surprised at what silly things his girl is trying to do.

“What is it?” He asks in a light tone that can only be heard by her.

“They are talking about our marriage. Do something. A grand wedding means everyone will know about us, I don't want that.” She said.

Of course, she is worried and concerned about this matter. In the hospital where she works, everyone thinks highly of her. All of her coworkers and juniors know she avoids men and boys like she avoids infection and disease or parasites. There's no way she would like to destroy that character of her.

Jacob hears her quite clearly, and agrees with her. He has many people to handle, so he can't give the reign of his life to this woman.

It's okay to just stay as a married couple in secret. But letting the whole world know about them is something beyond his imagination.

“I am thinking of settling the wedding date next month. It's her birthday as well, so the wedding will be the biggest gift of her life.” Says the grandpa with a joker-like wide smile on his face.

He's talking about her wedding if she's the one looking forward to it and can't contain her happiness. But in truth, this old man is the one who wants the whole world to know how handsome his grandson-in-law is and how proud he is to have such a kind and intelligent granddaughter.

“Next month? Don't you think it's too sudden?” Juhee's eldest aunt says with a worried look on her face.

Of course, it's too soon. If the marriage is held on the date this old man is saying, it's a big problem. Many preparations are to be done when it comes to the wedding. How will they manage everything in such a limited time?

Having a grand wedding means there will be many expenses occurring and many things to be done. It won't just happen because someone says so, actions will have to be taken.

Jacob gets close to the old man and sits down beside him. “Grandpa, we are already married, there's no need to hold a wedding ceremony. You know it, I don't like grand things. I like having everything simple.” Says Jacob.

He's trying to convince him to reconsider his decision.

The old man, however, does not easily bend. “It's a wedding we are talking about. You are already married on the papers but others don't know it. We have to hold a grand ceremony, to let everyone know that my beautiful and intelligent granddaughter is married to a handsome man like you. Plus, she is my most precious child, how can I not do the basic formality?” Says grandpa with glean on his face.

Juhee hears everything and she is pissed off right now. She couldn't stay calm any longer, and jumps into the conversation.

“Grandpa, if you are doing this for my sake, you don't have to. I don't want to show off my husband or my marriage. It's pretty good that we are done with these simple steps. I have a marriage certificate, and no one will doubt us. It's not good to indulge in great pleasure when we can get satisfied by simple happiness.”

Once those words came out of her mouth, the room fell silent, everyone went silent. Well! It's better, as long as there's no grand wedding. They married in a tough situation, there's no way she is ready to face the world yet. How can she tell her colleagues that she is married? She was once the golden bachelor in the whole hospital.

“You two have married already, why don't you want the world to know? Is this a shameful event for you that you want to hide?”
