Chapter 7

Author: Millionaire Candy
The incident seemed to have shaken Patrick. He was worried about Sophie and kept trailing her car, only leaving after seeing it drive into the garage.

Neither Jason nor Geraldine was at home at that hour, but Sophie didn't care where they were. She headed upstairs to the study.

Her passport and identification were with Jason, and she had to get them back. This was the perfect opportunity.

Jason had probably never imagined that Sophie would one day want to leave him and return to Dalea, so he hadn't bothered hiding the things too well. She soon found them and showed them to Fiona. Once she was sure they were her things, she carefully hid them.

The Walker family was ready for her. The moment she wanted to leave Faeria, she would have a private jet waiting to take her back to Dalea.

Sophie didn't want to waste too much time on these matters. During the meal with Patrick, they'd agreed that she would return to Dalea in three days.

During these final three days, she needed to gather all the evidence of Jason's affair and Geraldine stealing her corneas. She wanted to make them pay for what they'd done!

She slowly balled her hands into fists at that thought. Only a week had passed since the night she'd discovered the truth. Before that, she'd thought she and Jason were madly in love with each other and that their marriage was blissful.

Even when no matching cornea was found and her blindness seemed permanent, Sophie hadn't been too upset. She figured she was happy enough with Jason by her side.

She'd always thought of him as her salvation. Like Tricia, he was the light that lit up her life.

But all of this was fake!

Even before their marriage, Jason had known about Geraldine stealing her corneas! The past two years of her married life had been a scam from the very beginning!

Luckily, it was all about to end soon.

Just then, Sophie's phone rang. The voice prompt announced that it was a call from Anton, which surprised her. She quickly wiped the tears at the corners of her eyes and composed herself before answering.

Anton said, "Sophie, I saw your medical records at the hospital today."

Her heart raced when she heard that. Her medical records had been swapped out, but she still worried that he would notice something was wrong.

She panicked for a split second but quickly calmed down. "What's wrong with it?"

"Did you have surgery a few days ago?"

"Yeah. There was a bit of an infection in my eyes."

"The doctor who operated on you is new here and can't be trusted. You should've come to me," Anton said.

Sophie relaxed when she heard that. Everything was fine as long as she hadn't gotten caught. "It wasn't necessary. It was just a minor operation."

Besides, she disagreed with him. She didn't think that he was particularly trustworthy, not when he'd plotted against her with Jason. Thanks to Jason's instructions, Anton hadn't actually cared much about Sophie's eyes. He hadn't insisted on helping her once Jason objected.

"Remember to come to me if you feel unwell, then. I should get going. I'll see you tonight," Anton said.

"See me tonight?" Sophie asked.

"Yeah. Jason is having a get-together tonight. Won't you be there?"

Sophie knew nothing about this. It seemed this wasn't something Jason wanted her to be aware of. She wasn't usually interested in this sort of thing, but the fact that Jason didn't want her there only made her want to go.

"Of course, I will." Sophie smiled. "Give me the location. I'll see you tonight."

That night, Sophie followed the address to a club that only allowed members in. She'd been there with Jason a couple of times in the past and was a member there, so she could head inside without needing to register.

"We keep hearing you talk about Geri. Now that we're seeing her in person, we can truly appreciate how beautiful she is."

"Yeah. You sure know how to enjoy yourself, don't you? Your wife is already gorgeous, and your girlfriend is equally so. I'm jealous."

"Jason, since your wife can't see, she won't even know if she has a different husband for the night. How about you let us have a taste of her, too?"

Sophie had just arrived outside the private room after being led there by a server when she heard the lewd conversation through the door, which was ajar.

She froze, and her blood ran cold in that instant. She never would've expected Jason's friends, who were usually polite and respectful to her, to say such disgusting things!

She thought about the things Jason had done. Birds of a feather really did flock together!

"Sure," Jason said. He sat beside Geraldine with his arm resting along the back of her chair. His eyes twinkled as he looked at her, and his tone was flippant.

His response was simple and straightforward, yet it was enough to sting.

Sophie thought Jason was already shameless enough to have cheated on her with Geraldine. She couldn't believe he'd stooped even lower by saying something like that!

Whether he was telling the truth or just joking, it made her hatred for him deepen.

She was so angry that she trembled uncontrollably while her heart throbbed. In the end, she failed to hold back her rage and slammed the door open.

Everyone in the room turned around when they heard the noise.

Upon seeing Sophie standing at the door, Jason, who'd been the picture of calm composure, immediately panicked. He shot to his feet and hurried to her. He was so nervous that his voice shook. "Sweetheart, what are you doing here?"

She wanted to slap him hard across the face but forced herself to resist the urge when she thought about how her plan had yet to succeed.

"Shouldn't I be here?" She smiled faintly, but her tone was icy.

"Of course, you should!"

"What were you guys talking about? It sounded like you were having fun. I want to hear it too."

Jason and the others froze at her question. He thanked his lucky stars that Sophie couldn't understand Faerian, but he couldn't think of anything to tell her.

Amid the silence, Geraldine snorted and said in Dalean, "It's your problem if you can't understand. You didn't bother to learn the language. Did you expect someone to translate for you forever?"

Then, she switched to Faerian and said to Anton, "I heard from Jason that you found another cornea match for her."

"Yeah." He nodded. "They were transplanted into someone else's body a few days ago, though."

"Good." Geraldine laughed softly. "You don't need to bother paying attention to these things from now on. Sophie is destined to be blind for the rest of her life."

Anton furrowed his brows. He instinctively wanted to refute her, but Jason beat him to it. "She's right. Let's maintain the status quo. Sophie doesn't need to restore her vision."

His answer pleased Geraldine. She laughed louder, and Jason's friends joined her.

Their laughter grated on Sophie's ears, and she felt uncomfortable just listening to them. She clutched her white cane tightly as her hatred surged.

"Are you here, too, Ms. Slater?" she asked, feigning surprise. "You and Jason get along so well. I can't believe you're here for this get-together too. Isn't your face swollen today? I would've thought you wouldn't want to leave the house with your face in that state."

She easily angered Geraldine with those words. Geraldine snapped, "How dare you bring that up! You're the one who—"

"I'm guessing you must really like Livera if you're willing to walk around with your face like that. You can bring your boyfriend here next time if you get the chance," Sophie cut in, stopping her furious retort.

Jason tensed when he heard that. "Her boyfriend?"

He thought Sophie had noticed what was going on between him and Geraldine. However, he heard her say, "Yeah. When you were still asleep this morning, I heard Ms. Slater on the phone with her boyfriend. They sounded really sweet."

Her words shifted the room's atmosphere and made everyone blanche.

From an emotional perspective, Sophie hated having to suspect Patrick. However, her rational side told her that she couldn't be swayed by her emotions now.She was certain Patrick was involved in this incident, and she wanted to rattle him by revealing this discovery. Whatever role he played in this, he would definitely be thrown off course when he heard this revelation.Sure enough, things went as Sophie expected. Patrick wasn't fully awake yet, but the drowsiness was startled out of him when he heard her words."That's impossible!" He sounded even more agitated than Sophie was. "The footage was copied straight from the system. There can't be anything wrong with it!""I'll send the investigation results to you right now. You'll see what I mean when you see it.""I don't need it. I only trust myself and what I saw." Patrick's voice turned cold. "Soph, I know you're only being irrational because you're worried about Mom, but the truth is what it is. Mom is in stable condition now,

"I didn't do it!" Jason was agitated. "I never forced Geraldine to do anything! She told me there was a problem with her corneas and that she needed to perform a transplant using Sophie's corneas!""Sophie Walker was your girlfriend at the time. Why did you go along with Geraldine so easily just because she asked you to? How are you two related?" a police officer asked sharply. "Based on our investigation, Geraldine Samson has never had a cornea transplant. She never needed Sophie's corneas!""That's impossible!" Jason cried. "I've seen her medical history. There really was something wrong with her corneas!""We have all the evidence. Whether or not you believe us won't change the outcome!" The police officer looked at him darkly. "I'll ask you this once more—did you orchestrate this whole thing? You'll be given a lighter sentence if you confess your crimes, so think before you speak!"Jason didn't say anything. His mind raced as he processed what the officer had just told him. The

Sophie perked up when she heard that. She tightened her hold on her phone and asked, "What is it?""You were taken from the entrance of Gellard Street, right? There's an Internet cafe there with a surveillance camera at the entrance. It caught the whole thing. Michael wanted to destroy the evidence, so he paid a high price for the footage," Lana explained."The group we tracked down today spilled the truth. We went to the cafe's owner and scared him a little to make him come clean about everything. He was clever enough to keep a copy of the video, and he's kept it safe all these years in hopes of using it to extort Michael a few years down the road."We now have the footage, and it clearly shows Geraldine's face. With this video and the witnesses' testimonies, we have more than enough evidence to press charges against Geraldine."Sophie remained tense as Lana spoke. She only relaxed when Lana finished. This day had finally come!"Sue her. Do it now!" Sophie clutched her phone tigh

"Then we'll leave it to you, George. I'm worried about Terry being alone at home, so Patrick and I should get going. We'll take over from you tomorrow," Letitia said without hesitation.Patrick's expression shifted at her behavior, but he didn't say anything to stop her.Once they were gone, Sophie and George were left alone in the hospital room with an unconscious Cornelia."Grandpa…" Sophie started."You should go, too." George cut in. "I know what you want to look into. Go ahead with it, and be honest with me when you tell me what you find out. I'll watch over Lia, so don't worry about her."He hadn't been the head of the Walker family for so many years for no reason. He was sharp. Some things didn't need to be spelled out; he could see them clearly.Sophie nodded. "I'll get going, then. Let me know if Grandma wakes up.""Alright. Go on," he said hoarsely.Once she was gone, George sighed heavily and reached out to gently caress Cornelia's face. Choked up, he asked, "Lia, do

"Mrs. Walker Senior has a fractured left arm, intracranial bleeding, and a concussion. Her condition isn't great, so she'll have to be hospitalized for a few days for treatment. "The silver lining is that the bleeding isn't severe," the doctor said. "If it gets absorbed naturally, then she'll be fine. But if that doesn't happen, she'll need surgery."Sophie's and George's expressions darkened at that. It was far too risky for Cornelia to undergo brain surgery at her age. Natural absorption of blood would obviously be the best outcome. However, that wasn't something they could meddle in. All they could do now was ensure she received active treatment and pray for improvement.Cornelia was wheeled out of the operating theater and to a hospital room after the doctor left. Only then did Patrick end his call and join everyone there."Dad, how is Mom?" he asked anxiously as he looked at Cornelia, who was still unconscious.George didn't answer as he kept his eyes trained on Cornelia. Cornelia's health wasn't the best, to begin with. Even though she'd only fallen a dozen or so steps, the impact took a significant toll on her body. When Sophie arrived at the hospital, Cornelia was still in the ER. George, Patrick, and Letitia waited outside.Sophie hurried to George. She wanted to comfort him, but she had no idea what to say when she saw his red-rimmed eyes. He and Cornelia had such a strong bond; Sophie knew nothing she said then would make him feel better. However, Cornelia had lived at Walker Manor for 50 years and knew everything there like the back of her hand. Why would she have suddenly fallen?Sophie's gut told her something was off, but she couldn't ask George about it. She went to Patrick instead."Don't read too deeply into this—no one pushed her. She missed a step and fell." Patrick sighed. He pulled out his phone and showed her the surveillance footage. "She's getting on in years, so maybe she was just confused."Sophie remembered that she was supp
