LOGINRemi Puth had been married to Lacy Web for seven years, and raising their five-years son, Ian, with all her heart. But in return, Ian longed for a new mother and Lacy choses another woman over her. Remi had never imagined one day both Lacy and Ian would chose someone else over her. Tired of trying to mend a broken bond, she asked for a divorce and even gave up custody before walking away with grace. Years later, she has transformed into a confident woman. Now, both Lacy and Ian are drowning in regret, desperately chasing after her—but by that time, it’s already too late.
View MoreIt was 4’o’clock in the afternoon, Remi Puth finished baking the cake and cooking the meals two hours ago. So after taking her bath, she scrolled through i***a-gram while waiting for Lacy to bring Ian back from school. Today was Ian’s birthday, and Remi made his favorite cake, food, and even his favorite snacks. She could not wait to see Ian so happy and spend time with both her husband and son.
Lacy usually brings Ian back by 2:10 but it has been two hours and she wondered what was keeping him. She even tried to call Lacy but his phone was unreachable. She sent several message to know if he was fine, but Lacy still didn’t reply back. So she thought it was best to scroll through i***a-gram while waiting for them.
As she continued scrolling through i***a-gram, one post made her pause. Zooming in, her heart skipped a beat—it was her ex–best friend, Bernice Green, standing beside a man who had his arm wrapped possessively around her waist. They both smiled radiantly at the camera, each holding a little boy between them, looking every bit like a happy family. But the man was her husband, Lacy—the same man she’d been waiting for to come home. And the little boy? Her son, Ian—the child Lacy was supposed to be bringing back from school.
Beneath the photo, the caption struck her like a slap: “Today’s my son’s birthday. Please wish him a happy birthday, everyone.”
Had it been the people on the photos with Bernice was another people, Remi would have offered her best wishes, but it was her husband and son and she felt angry about this.
It was now 5:30 and the food she took time to make has gone cold exactly like her heart.
Ian even picked Bernice instead of her, just like Lacy. Remi felt numb as she thought about it. They’ve let her down.
She furiously typed beneath the photo: 'You shameless fox. How dare you parade with my husband and son as if they're your family? Take this post down before I make you regret it.'''
Over the years, Bernice have been posting photos of her, a man, and a little boy but she always covered their face with stickers so no one could know them, and Remi thought Bernice was already married and was trying to keep her family private and away from social media. But today, she realized that it had been Lacy and Ian all this while. They managed to fool her all this years, but not anymore…
Remi took screenshots of the comment she posted on Bernice’s photo and posted it on her story for their mutual friends to see that it was even her husband that Bernice was having an affair with and claiming her son as her own. Remi wanted their mutual friends to see how awful and shameless Bernice was.
Bernie immediately deleted the post. Remi sneered when she saw this. She got up from the couch in the parlor, went to the kitchen and instructed the chef, "Valerie, throw the food, snacks and cake away.”
“But ma’am, they haven’t gotten spoiled yet.” Valerie said, frowning and wondering why Remi would do that. Remi was hardly at home, and today that she made this for Ian for his birthday, how could she throw it away?
“I know. Just do as you’re being told.” Remi responded and walked away while Valerie nodded.
The food lay untouched, the steam long gone, leaving only a lifeless chill—just like her marriage, tasteless and cold.
Remi thought, ‘Why not just divorce Lacy? I can't be with him anymore’ After that, she headed upstairs.
Her friends already saw the post on her story and chatted her. As she was replying to their chat, she heard hurried footsteps outside and the door sprang open.
Lacy came in with a frown on his face. He violently grabbed her wrist and asked, "Why do you have to pick on Bernice now that she's getting better?"
Lacy, her husband, felt like a whole stranger to her at that moment. But they had been living together for seven years.
"Me, picking on her?" Remi laughed. "She deserves it. You promise me yesterday that we were going to spend time with Ian today as it was his birthday. But what did you do? you spend it with your mistress and…. Don’t get me angry Lacy. I even took my time to bake a cake and…”
Lacy’s face showed a trace of guilt. He said and his voice got softer, "I forgot to tell you. But you shouldn't have gone after Bernice like that.”
Remi's reply to Lacy could cut deeper: "You forgot? No, Lacy-you chose. You chose her over me, and even over your son's real mother."
Lacy thought that Remi shouldn't fight back. She should keep biting her tongue like she always did.
"Mom, you're mean! You made Ms. Green cry. I hate you! You made her life worse. I hate you." Ian’s voice came from the door. He looked just like Lacy, and he was really good-looking.
Remi’s pulse raced and her eyes became wide with shock as she turned to face Lacy. "Did you tell Ian to say that?"
Lacy frowned and looked angry. "Isn't Ian right? You're upset because we spent his birthday with Bernice. Because of you, she ends up like this. Ian and I are just trying to make up for what you did wrong!"
Five years ago, the Green’ Group was involved in a tax fraud scandal and went bankrupt overnight. Bernice’s parents couldn't handle the news and killed themselves. Nathaniel Green, her brother, was hounded by debt collectors and jumped down a building while trying to escape from his debt collector which resulted in his death.
Bernice had been having serious mental problems since then. At that time, the Web family was supporting Remi through university with a scholarship because Lacy’s grandfather and Remi’s grandmother were close friends.
Students at the university said it was Remi that told the debt collectors where Nathaniel was staying, which led to his tragic death. And because Remi wasn’t from a rich background, when she defended herself and told them she wasn’t the one, nobody believed her.
Remi even spiked his drink, which led to a one-night encounter with him. So, to Lacy, Remi was the cause of all the problems. Lacy couldn't look Bernice in the eye after sleeping with Remi, because Bernice was the love of his life that time, and her brother, Nathaniel, was his best friend.
So in order not to make the Web family a laughing stock in Sky city, Theo Web, Lacy’s grandfather, convinced him to marry Remi, and Lacy had to do so with the condition that Theo had to pay off the Green family's debt and send Bernice abroad to the best mental health care to recover.
Lacy grabbed Remi by the neck and pushed her onto the bed on their wedding night. He was angry and furious as he asked her why she had killed Nathaniel, drugged his drink, and slept with him.
Lacy didn't believe Remi no matter how hard she tried to explain she was not the one who told the debt collectors Nathaniel’s house address or drugged his drink. After marriage, Remi was hated by Lacy’s family except Theo who actually believed she was actually innocent of all the crimes she was accuse of.
Vivian Web, Lacy’s mother, took Ian away from Remi when he turned one year. She took care of Ian and talked badly about Remi to him all the time. Ian eventually returned back to Remi by the that time he was five years. The lies that had been planted in him from Vivian about Remi had grown, and he loathed her just like Lacy did.
Remi did everything she could to be the best wife and mother, hoping that Lacy and Ian would see her for who she really was one day. But in the end, everyone just made fun of her.
It had been seven years, and it was time for Remi to wake up from this bad dream. She took a deep breath and picked up the divorce papers from her bedside table, preparing to give them to Lacy.
Lacy’s phone rang that moment. He smacked Remi’s hand away and then picked up the phone. The next second, his face was as cold as ice. "What? Bernice tried to kill herself at home because of you! You're going to die too if something happens to her today.”
When Ian heard that, he looked at Remi with hatred and shouted to his dad, "Dad, just get a divorce from Mom! After that, Ms. Green can be my new mom.”
Lacy shot Remi a look of contempt and then left with Ian. Ian’s word kept playing in Remi’s ears. She couldn’t believe the same son she had complications just to give birth to, could ask his father to divorce to her.. JUST TO BE WITH HIS MISTRESS…
Lacy shot Remi a look of contempt and then left with Ian. Remi clutched the divorce papers, her knuckles white.
lan's words echoed in her head like knives: "Ms. Green can be my new mom." A bitter laugh escaped her lips, sharp and broken.
"Fine," she whispered to herself. "He can have his mistress. And lan... he can have his new mother. I'm done."
It looks like she had to also give up custody of Ian too now.
Remi’s lips curled into a mocking smile. "Doesn't it hurt? You were so close to being married to her.” Lacy’s eyes were as cold and venomous as he gazed at her. "You know damn well why we didn't get together! You're the one to blame, but here you are, trying to blame others.” Remi laughed in a dry way. "Keep lying. But you know the truth deep within. Your mom wrecked your wedding plans long before we even hooked up!” She took a deep breath, and her voice was full of annoyance. "And now? I'm getting out of the way for you. Simply marry the person you love. I even got the public angry for you. What is stopping you? Don't tell me you're having second thoughts.”Lacy stopped moving. Those hashtags that are popular right now? He didn't think about losing Bernice at first. No, he couldn't believe how far Remi would go to get rid of him. He couldn't believe that she still only wanted to leave him. He said on purpose to get her angry, "I have loved Bernice for so many years. It's going to
Remi leaned up close and spoke in a devious way. "Back then, you didn't like Bernice, and now you can't tolerate me. Why don't you marry Lacy if no one he marries ever makes you happy? You can keep your darling boy all to yourself forever, and I can get my divorce without having to look at your ugly face every day.”Vivian was ready for something serious, not this embarrassing jab. She was so angry that she shook, and her polished exterior fell apart as she raised her hand to hit Remi. "You rude young brat! Who told you you could talk to me like that? Someone like you wouldn't even be able to stand in front of me, let alone marry my son, if you hadn't shamelessly seduced him.”Remi flinched back, pretending to be scared for a second. That dodge made Vivian angry. She surged forward and slapped Remi hard, her face contorted with rage. A loud crack resonated, and red fingerprints appeared on Remi’s soft cheek. The servants who were close by stopped what they were doing. Remi’s ey
Theo’s hard face softened when he heard her comments. "I've been a fool," he said, sounding sorry. "I couldn't keep my grandson in check. You must be in a lot of debt if you're resigning and getting a divorce. This check is my way of saying I'm sorry for being rude to you. Start a business, open a store, do whatever you want." She wasn't ready for his unexpected honesty. She looked at the huge number on the check and thought for a while. Theo pushed it into her hand. "Take this, and you're done with us. I'll tell everyone to stop looking at you. You will be free.”The study door suddenly opened. Lacy burst in, holding Ian in his arms. His expression was as dark as a thundercloud. "Well, Remi. You got your hands on that nice cheque, didn't you? He smiled. "That's pretty rich of you to call me out when you're just as bad. Who is the actual serpent in this marriage?”"Dad was right about you!" Ian pointed at her. "Gold digger! You don't deserve him! I don't like you as my mom!”Remi
"Please do this for her. Look at the poor creature. She's bawling her eyes out after all the work she did to get rid of me. Don't you feel sorry for her?" Lacy took a big breath. "Don't say stupid things." "Everything I just said was true," Remi said, her voice steady. Lacy looked at her. His lady. The one he had always been in love with. But now she has changed? "How many times have I told you?" he growled. "I'm not letting you go off to some other jerk, that's for sure,” His eyes became very small. "You worked so hard to get me to marry you back then. Well, now? It won't be simple to leave." Remi looked him straight in the eye and didn't flinch. She yelled loudly before he could tighten his grip. "Bernice, it's not that I won't move. Lacy is the one who won't let me go! What do you think about this? Send me the money first, and I'll figure out the rest later." "Have you lost your mind?" Lacy blew up. "You know she's weak, yet you're still trying to get her to do this? I'll tak
The doctor who was looking after Bernice was still here. Remi saw him and raised her chin to Lacy. "Don't buy it? You should ask him yourself.” "Well..." The doctor let out a sigh and shrugged. "ECT has worked for people with depression in the past. Helps some people get over trauma.”Lacy answered, "Let's do it then." Bernice woke up right on time, her eyes fluttering open. " "No!" Her voice broke, and tears filled her eyes. "I don't care if it hurts me. I want to remember how painful it was to lose my family forever!" "Really?" Remi smiled. "You can hear us?" "Bits and pieces..." Bernice choked between her sobs. Then she stared Remi straight in the eye, her eyes burning. "I know you don't like me, but this? Taking away my memories? Do you think that will hide what you did? I never wanted to blame you, but you know why I'm here!" You did this! And now you want to fry my brain to make me stop? That's just wrong!" Remi rolled her eyes and threw the medical report on Bernice’
It was midnight on the 15th on the screen. Ian pushed the door open and left by himself. Remi had divided the screen of the monitor into two parts: the corridor on the left and her room on the right. She was already asleep on the bed.Ian pushed the call button on his kid's smartwatch. His voice was quiet but excited. "Ms. Green, I'm in my mother's room now. What's next? I should approve the transaction right? All right! Will you stay with me every day after I do this? Okay!" Remi couldn't hear Bernice’s side, but she could tell that she was helping this kid through it step by step. Ian tiptoed into her room after they hung up and took her phone from the bed. The camera saw him access that payment app by tapping on it. He pushed that "accept" button, and the time stamp matched the transfer records flawlessly. The crowd got quiet when that five-minute clip ended. Lacy seemed really confused. "Why did you get my son to run this scheme?" Bernice put her hands over her face and cried a
