Cassandra’s POV

I hurriedly walked toward the kitchen while Chris walked behind me with a smile I didn’t dare look at twice.

Just as I welcomed his kiss because I couldn’t control myself, I heard the sound of the door being knocked, and the maid informed me that Andreas—my father had arrived. I didn’t know whether I should be grateful or cursed because of it.

"I’ll check the food in the kitchen," I said before turning down a different corridor from the room the maid had mentioned where Andreas was waiting for us.

"I have to greet my father-in-law properly," Chris gave me the same look—mocking me for my foolish actions. "It’s his first time here, so I think we should make him feel comfortable."

I looked at him nervously.

I doubted Chris would do that, considering what he did to the two men who touched me a month ago. Chris… even though it’s hard for me to accept, he killed them. And that still haunts me to this day because I haven’t gotten any certainty about that night’s events.
