"Hi, George. How are you feeling? I am sorry for what's been happening around you lately. I just wish there was a way I could help out," Kelly spoke as he entered the ward with Doctor Escobar. Like a concerned friend, he went to sit next to George on the bed.
It's safe to say that Kelly was the best thing that ever happened to George in a while. He wasn't related to George, yet he cared so much about him as though they were biological brothers.
A lot about George had changed. He wasn't the George Kelly knew from way back. Aside from looking so pale, George had lost weight as though he hadn't been feeding well for the past few days.
The situation had completely overwhelmed George, hence snatching away his confidence. For once in his life, he forgot what it feels like to be a Father. He would pay to turn back the hands of time.
"How do I feel? I doubt if that's even a question. Oh my goodness! How do I come in on this right now? Well, you you guess. I bet you would know better." George spoke without hitting the nail on the head. He was lost for words to explain his pathetic situation. He was speaking to Kelly, yet had his whole eyes focused on the wall as though he was having a conversation with an invisible being.
"I understand how you feel right now, George. Trust me, I feel the same too. I just don't wanna be the one to say it out knowing it might hurt you. I guess I gotta seal my lips forever." Kelly said and paused. He knew how battered George looked and wouldn't wanna worsen his situation
"Mr. Cooper, I have good news for you.lYou are gonna love it. It's gonna be more of a relief for you." Doctor Escobar Cleared his throat. He barely said a word since they walked inside the ward. He wanted to allow Kelly and George to have a moment to themselves.
With a move too fast, George lifted his head to focus on Doctor Escobar. "What's the good news about? Please tell me. I can't wait to find out about it. Perhaps, it would be enough to take away the pain I feel inside of me right now,"
"Relax your nerves, George. I am sure it's no big deal. You shouldn't be panicking about this. I suggest we wait to hear from the doctor first before drawing any conclusion" Kelly implored the impatient George Cooper.
"By tomorrow, you will be getting discharged from the hospital. I would recommend some drugs to help you get better," Doctor Escobar revealed what could have been good news.
Rather than smiling, George frowned. It didn't seem like he was excited about the news.
"George, didn't you hear what the doctor said? You are gonna be discharged soon. This calls for a celebration," Kelly whispered after seeing how down George looked. In normal circumstances, it would have been the best need ever but somehow, George isn't feeling it
"Of course, I heard him. I wasn't deaf," George spoke harshly.
Absolute stillness enclosed the atmosphere as everyone waited, allowing George to have his moment.
They understood his situation and knew it would be a huge crime to engage in a heated argument with him.
"What's the point of being excited? I still don't get it. It's not as though getting discharged is gonna guarantee my peace of mind."
"Oh, shit.
That's where Dexter comes in," Kelly chipped in. Without being told, they knew whom George was referring to.
"Yes, it's Dexter.
How do I solve that menace?" Bewildered, George sought their opinion. A lot of questions hoarding his head that needed urgent responses. Sadly, not even Kelly or Doctor Escobar could provide the answers George was yearning for.
________
Dexter hasn't gotten over the embarrassment he received from Kelly, especially from Doctor Escobar who made him look like a piece of shit. The event still plays in his head like a movie.
This act has caused Dexter to be clueless, hence restricting his movement. He was still stuck in the hospital after several attempts to exit.
Leaning against the wall, Dexter tucked his arms to reminisce what had been happening in his life lately. Most importantly, the threat from his father about the heir apparent to his inheritance.
"I can't believe my Father would say that to my face. Sometimes, I doubt if he's the biological Father. As long as I live, I would never let Derek take over what belongs to me. That's never gonna happen," Dexter vowed while hitting his chest.
He was speaking to himself like some mentally derailed patient.
This strange act from Dexter didn't go unnoticed. It got the attention of some nurses at the counter who had been watching him for a while.
"Can you see what's happening over there?" One of the nurses asked her colleague after a close observation of Dexter
"Nurse Elizabeth, what's it this time? Can't someone have a moment of quietness to himself anymore? Forget about it. It's just not worth it," Nurse Olivia waved it off as she focused on minding her business. She doesn't give a fuck what Dexter does with his life or if he was truly running mad.
"No way I am gonna overlook that.
He's been standing there for a while and you are just gonna pretend like it's nothing? Come on Olivia, I thought nurses were trained to be concerned about their patients?" Elizabeth cried. She has slowly grown interest in Dexter's situation as though her whole life depends on it
"Can you just listen to yourself speak? You were making sense until you mentioned patients. Look at that handsome man minding the business that pays him. Does he look like one the patients in the ward to you? Does he even look sick? I think you need to have your eyes examined," Nurse Olivia smirked and walked away, exempted herself the situation.
"Am I interrupting anything interesting? This place looks quiet. Why do I have a feeling that you all suddenly stopped talking because I walked in? Are you all discussing me? I might just walk away if my presence is making you all uncomfortable." Kelly asked with seriousness. The sudden silence in the room worries him so much. He could have sworn that he heard some voices when he was still outside. "Kelly, please stop. Stop drawing unnecessary conclusions. It doesn't even make sense to me. This has nothing to do with you. Why do you think everything is always about you, huh? The least you could have done was to ask. This is not the way to go about this." George fumed at Kelly. Not even the news of Dexter's arrest made him react that way. He poured out his frustration at Kelly as he was the one who got Dexter arrested. "Okay. I guess it's not about me after all. At least, I know I am safe,' Kelly sighed.Another awkward glance from George fueled another suspicion."What? Stop starin
Slowly, Ciara walked to the door and opened it. She stood at the door entrance to ensure that Walters didn't force himself inside the house. "You look stunning tonight. What the heck am I saying? You always look stunning. But tonight, it's different." They were the first words of Walters, immediately he saw Ciara. He couldn't get his eyes off her as though that were the first time meeting each other. The plan was to flatter Ciara and make her fall for Walters again. Sadly, it wasn't working. Ciara already knew what his intentions were. "What do you want?" She shunned his flattering words and went straight to the point. She can't deny the fact that Walters himself looks good. Due to what's at stake, she couldn't admit it. "I just want us to talk. Can I at least come inside let's have a decent conversation?" Walters begged. He sounded sorrowful like the biblical prodigal son who showed up to his father's house after wasting his inheritance. "You want us to talk?" She giggled and
Peeping through the tiny hole from inside, Ciara spotted a familiar face at her doorstep, holding a flower bouquet. He was dressed in a dark suit as though he were heading for a dinner date. It was a face that brought back old memories. He was the last person Ciara expected to see at that crucial time. This was the moment Ciara wished it was Derek. She felt that his presence was more significant than the person outside. "I can't believe it's Walters that's standing outside my doorstep. He is even dressed in a suit. What exactly does he want from me? I thought I would never set my eyes on him ever again. Why didn't he reach out to me personally? For crying out loud, it's 8:20 PM. Is he that jobless?Doesn't he have important places to be at this time? Why come to my house? What if my Father was around?" Ciara lamented in a low tone. Too many mysteries surrounding the presence of Walters, her ex-boyfriend. They haven't spoken to each other since Walters called off their relationshi
"I said nasty things about you in your absence that shouldn't have been said. I allowed my emotions and anger to control me. Now I am regretting every one of my actions," Tony confessed, yet failed to hit the nail on the head. He got Lucas and everyone confused."I don't understand what you are talking about. You still haven't told me what I need to hear. Can you please go straight to the point? You are not even making sense right now," Lucas fumed. He pretends not to know what Tony says about him. He wanted Tony to admit it himself. "I kind of pulled out of the plan to prosecute Dexter in your absence. Not just pulling out, I also tried forcing everyone to make the same decision," Tony finally took the courage to speak up. It was the most difficult task of his life. He would have sworn that he was never going to say that. To everyone's surprise, Lucas didn't react to Tony's confession, nor did he confront Tony. Instead, Lucas laughed and shook his head in pity. Tony got more scar
"But why didn't she tell me before? What game is she trying to play with me? Why does it have to be now? No, I disagree. I need to unravel the real truth in this." Officer Lucas asked himself rhetorically as his voice echoed back to him. Plenty of unanswered questions roam inside his head with no one around to provide the answers. "Now I see what Nurse Elizabeth is trying to achieve with this. She wants to manipulate me with some fake pregnancy, isn't it? There's no way I am letting her get away with it. Time to show her that I am smarter than she can ever imagine," Officer Lucas thought to himself. He doesn't want to believe that everything happening is a coincidence already. Five years of relationship and it happened to be their first-ever fight. And it turned out to be worse. To think that Officer Lucas already making plans to propose marriage to Nurse Elizabeth. He already contacted the event planning for the engagement party. He intends to make it the most memorable night o
"Exactly what you heard, Romeo. This is crazy. It's against my belief. I can't imagine myself being a partaker of something that's against my faith," Tony confirmed his decision to back out. His lips weren't shaking either, and his legs were struggling to stand firm on the ground. He didn't stutter or mince words. It was as though he'd been waiting for this moment all his life to express his dissatisfaction. "Your beliefs?" Romeo giggled. He paced around the office and returned a few seconds later. "Please tell me this is a joke. It's too early to joke with a situation like this," Romeo doubted Tony. Despite the seriousness on Tony's face, Romeo still didn't think he meant every damn word he said. "I wouldn't utter a word to you anymore. I rather wait for the officer to show up. Perhaps, you are going to believe me when I say it to his face," Tony stated and stepped backwards. Those were the only words he uttered. "he's serious about it," Romeo muttered in disbelief.
