LAURA'S POV

There's something about this girl.

I can't place it but it's very familiar....and very disturbing. She shuts her eyes again and takes deep breaths like she's been doing since I told her I knew who she was.

I wonder what she thought I knew.

"Now I'm worried. Are you sure you're alright?" She nods her head weakly but I doubt it. She's not alright, she's having a panic attack. "You know what? Let's just get you home."

Maybe she was one of those girls who pretended to be perfect, like me, just so they could have their dreams come through. Maybe she thinks Denver and I have a good relationship and I'd be the one to snitch on her shortcomings.

Pity, she hardly knows me.

Kicking off the car engine again, I begin the drive back home.

Thankfully, Liam's never finding out what happened today and I still have an opportunity to have the ledger and Montero off my back.

Today wasn't all that bad afterall.

"Do I really look like that?" Her voice is squeaky but I can hear her.

DENVER'S POV I can't get Neriah's words off my mind. What if I really let go of this entire battle like she suggested and throw in the rest of my effort into making my company stand on her feet? But that'd mean that for the first time in my life I'm quitting. And Denver Chadwick never quits. Liam keeps insisting that my father left no will, but I have a strong feeling that he did. I have an even stronger feeling that he's trying desperately to keep me away from my share of our inheritance. But why?Liam has always had whatever he wanted no matter how expensive. Even now he's the one with the good life and top ranking business. Why won't he let me have what's mine?My palms crunch into a fist, rage seeping through my blood stream. This is exactly why I can't just let it go. Because Liam has a habit of bullying me subtly, especially since he knows he can't face me physically. I need to find that goddamn lawyer again and maybe beat the shit out of him. Maybe then I can get the answer

  • Married To My Ex-husband's Half-brother    Chapter 46

NERIAH'S POV I can't believe he's dying. Throughout the flight back home I kept staring at him to see if he'd turn around and say, "Neriah... about last night....it was a joke. Or I was drunk, but he didn't say a word. Instead he kept his gaze out of the window, staring into the vast nothingness below. Denver Chadwick and I have never been best if friends but I feel extremely sorry for him.I wish there was a way to save his life just as he saved mine. I didn't know how to ask him if there was no cure for whatever it was, but for him to say outrightly that he was dying then there probably was no cure. Or the sickness had eaten too deep to be cured. I sigh for the umpteenth time, dusting the same table I've been on since I picked this rag up. My mind turns towards a different direction. There has to be a means for his company to avoid bankruptcy, but who would he be leaving it to? Gia? Charity? Why's he fighting so hard for a legacy he has no one to carry on? If I was the one, I

  • Married To My Ex-husband's Half-brother    Chapter 45

LAURA'S POV There's no logical explanation for Neriah being alive. "What if Denver was only messing with you? You know your brother's a real time jerk."Liam shakes his head vehemently. "I may be so many things, Laura, but stupid isn't one of them. I clearly heard him call her name." For the umpteenth time, I feel like reaching over to check his temperature. This guy's gone nuts. He contracted someone to kill my sister, and when the deed was done, pictorial evidence was sent.Liam's never been able to contact the guy since then but we both saw the pictures. She's definitely dead. And how can she come here in such cheap disguise after she was nearly killed by us? Maybe she didn't know we sent the assassin but we betrayed her. That's reason enough for her not to come here and bluff around. Now he's suggesting we follow Denver so we can find out who his fiancee really is. Seriously? Denver of all people? The same Denver he's terrified of?"What do you care all of a sudden if she's a

CHAPTER 43 DENVER'S POV If Liam doesn't have the ledger, then where is it? That's the question that's been on my mind since I walked out of Liam's house, Neriah's hand intertwined with mine. When our dad passed, I was certain that he'd written a will since he was an extremely organized man. One who liked everything to be done in accordance with his orderly words. However, his lawyer and Liam keep insisting that he left no will. Only a couple of words instructing the manor at Florida to be handed over to me. That was it. About two years later when I heard that Liam had a secret listing of all his possession, I made it a duty to find it. That ledger would tell me if my father left more of his properties in my name, and if Liam, as he'd always done when we were children, was trying to cheat me out of my rights. That burning sensation resumes in my throat. I've been resisting the urge to cough since I got to Liam's but right now, I don't think I can do that successfully any

  • Married To My Ex-husband's Half-brother    CHAPTER 43

NERIAH'S POV "What the hell do you think you're doing!?" I whirl on him the moment we lock the doors behind us. Laura showed us to the guest room downstairs but I've barely had time to take in the beauty of the soft, black and white rug on the ground or the white and silver wallpaper adorning the walls. Denver takes his cufflinks off, completely ignoring me. A scoff escapes my lips. "How the hell does this work anyway? You and I in one room? Aren't you worried Gia would have both our heads if she ever learns of this?" "Shut up." He finally turns around to acknowledge my presence in the room. "Shut the fuck up before you talk me to death." "Oh so you still speak? Marvelous! Now can you please explain what that was out there with Laura? You could have exposed her."He walks up to me until our knees are touching. "I thought you hated your sister?' "I do. I...I...""No, you don't. You're just a big mouthed weakling who still cares about the bitch that could've killed her." I open
