Chapter 5

Isla

My eyes fluttered open at the heavy light entering my eyes. I was back in my room, laying on the bed and not the floor this time around.

I rose up from the bed, my head still feeling foggy and a little dizzy. How did I get here?

My eyes scanned the room and I finally caught sight of the mug. It was a few metres away from me, I reached forward and grabbed it only to find that it was empty.

I scoffed, pulling away the blankets and at that moment my stomach grumbled. I rose to my feet, heading to the kitchen.

Questions swarmed my mind as I walked forward. How long have I been unconscious for? Who saved me?

I ignored all of it when I finally got to the kitchen. I took up a tiny space in a corner and had my fill before stepping out, a mug in my hand.

Surprisingly, this time around the lady didn't come to bug me. I smiled, maybe I finally got her off my back.

The words of some maids hit my ears and I stopped on my tracks.

"I heard the Alpha punished Miss. Lyra and took care of his wife all night." One of the maids said and immediately connected the dots, I was the wife they spoke of and Lyra was probably the one who tried to torment me.

Impossible. Axel's relationship with Lyra seemed out of the ordinary, why would he punish her because of me?

"You're wrong. The Alpha would never punish her over a toy." The other maid said, and I felt my stomach turn but she wasn't wrong.

Axel did see me as someone to toy with. Even worse, something he wanted to destroy.

"He was only pissed because he wasn't the one who hurt her. He couldn't even lay a hand on Miss. Lyra. He could only punish the maids." The maid chuckled lightly and I felt the hairs on my skin raise.

If Axel had truly been the one before me that day, I would have a worse fate than what had happened to me.

"But I heard the maids were punished severely. Thrown into the water, and the others fed to the dogs." I recoiled backwards, my eyes twitching.

Axel had become even worse than I had imagined.

"How cruel. Just because they carried out the wrong instructions."

The maid's voice faded and an image of the maid's begging flashed before my eyes. I shook my head, and retreated to my room.

Midway, a group of maids stood before me, faces I had never seen before. I scanned their faces, and when I saw their hands inch forward, I turned and ran.

I had hardly taken a step or two when I was pulled back by one of the maids. "Miss. Lyra wants to see you."

Their leader said, and the others just dragged me away. I gritted my teeth hard. I thought I had escaped her clutches.

The maids soon came to a stop, and they freed me. The leader signalled to me with her head, telling me to move forward. I ignored her, and searched for a chance to escape but there was none.

This time it wasn't just maids but also guards. Well-built men stood around the place.

"Go on in. This is where you'll serve from now on." She said,

I swallowed hard and walked into the room. The exquisite design of the room was the first to catch my eyes. An expensive chandelier hung from the centre of the room with articulate details on the walls.

Even though this was my pack, I didn't know a pack like this existed. Axel truly valued her.

A voice snapped me out of my thoughts, and I dropped my head immediately. "Don't you know how to greet your master?"

Lyra said, her voice dripping with disdain. I forced a smile on my face.

"What do you want from me?" I asked through gritted teeth. Lyra smiled, raising her head, and a maid came towards me and slapped me hard on the face.

"That's for talking back to your master." The maid said.

I looked up to her, my eyes burning red. "I'm not your maid." I said, my voice was stern and cold.

Lyra laughed hard, throwing her head back like I had told a funny joke.

"You still think you are an alpha princess, don't you?" Lyra asked, stepping forward. I tilted my head high in defiance.

Lyra came close, leaning in closer so much so that I could feel her breath hot against my neck.

"Don't think those antics of yours will work again. Axel totally hates you now." She said, her hands tightened on my shoulder. I raised a brow, confused.

She stood straight after patting my shoulders and looked at the maid beside her.

"Let her lean outside until she knows how to behave." She said turning away.

I was dragged away and forced to kneel right below the sunlight. Guards and maids stood by my side to make sure I didn't move.

My knees were starting to hurt, my whole body heating up in the sun.  I raised my leg up slightly, but before I could message my knees, I felt a whip down my back. I fell to the floor immediately, the force too strong for me to bear.

"Kneel straight." The maid spoke, I turned to them, wanting to protest but I got whipped yet again.

Gritting my teeth, I mustered up all the strength I had in me and stood up straight again.

A few minutes passed and they finally moved to a side. A smile rose on my face, the torture was finally over but I was wrong, so wrong.

They had only left because Axel was here. I gritted my teeth, and lowered my head, he must be beyond happy seeing me in this state.

I avoided his gaze as he walked inside and sure enough, he ignored me.

I scoffed but I was already starting to feel my strength failing me. I leaned forward, about to fall but I kept myself up.

Suddenly, Axel walked out with Lyra by his side.

"Why should they disobey your orders because I'm here? She's almost on the floor and they still haven't whipped her yet." Axel said and they immediately rushed to my side.

I closed my eyes, waiting for the whip to drop but Axel's words made me snap them open.

"They didn't obey their master's instructions. They should be punished.”
