Bruna

My eyes scanned the different delicacies in front of me.

Across the table, was Caden's mother and younger sister. Marigold and Phoebe respectively.

None of them have been able to lift their spoons to their mouth as they occasionally stared at me. Phoebe, on the other hand, looked as though she would stab me with the fork in her hand if given the opportunity.

For that reason, I haven't been able to eat as well. Caden had sent his swat of guards to pick me up in a convoy of black Rolls-Royces.

I had no idea he would ask them to bring me to his family residence. When they did, the first thing I was welcome with was a table filled with food.

“Are you pregnant for my brother, or is this some kind of scheme to take money from him or make way for yourself?”

Phoebe dropped her fork on her plate and bridged her hands on the table. Her eyes were on me with pure contempt glinting in them.

I picked a piece of watermelon with my fork. I brought it up to my face and examined it. I popped it into my mouth as I slowly chewed on it.

“I know my brother is a player, but he will never bring someone like you home.” She continued.

Someone like me. I resisted the urge to laugh.

The squeaking sound of the door sent my head swirling towards it.

Caden walked through the door dressed in black pants, a black shirt, and His black jacket in his hands.

He paused for a moment and scanned the room before he walked up to the table. He didn't acknowledge that there was a stranger in the room but made a beeline for his family. He placed a kiss on his mother's cheek, and another on his sister's head. He then pulled a chair and sat across from me.

“Bruna right?” He questioned. My eyes met his face. His light green eyes were prominent in daylight.

I nodded.

“Are you pregnant for me?” His piercing eyes moved to my face “...or is this some kind of game?”

His calm tone did surprise me though. I expected him to use those derogatory words he used on me when we first met.

“Yes, she is and you will sit and figure this mess out.” His mother wailed from her seat. “You shouldn't have let this happen at a time like this.”

"She can't be pregnant, Mother. She must be here for a reason. Why would she come when Caden is going in for elections? Someone must have sent her”

My fingers coiled around the fork in my hand. My eyes narrowed at her with the same contempt she had for me earlier. She was so lucky that we were surrounded. Otherwise, I would have picked up the kitchen knife and swung it right through her eyes.

"But he was at Vortex with her?" His mother said with a stern expression. I nodded at her words. She was correct.

She looked to be the type of woman who didn't want her reputation shaded. This would probably make things easier for me.

"I was, but I don't remember sleeping with her."

"How could you say that? You invited me in. We drank and then we slept together. You enjoyed it and even asked for us to meet again.”

I let the tears I had been holding for moments like this fall freely down my face. I stared at his mother, who raised a questioning brow at her son, then at Caden, whose green eyes were now staring daggers at me.

I braced myself on the chair waiting for what he had to say.

“Well, I will take care of the baby and then you sort yourself out.”

Oh, wait! What? My heart limped in joy. Actual tears rolled down my cheeks. My plans hadn't been in vain.

I will finally use this pregnancy as a stepping stone to get the revenge I have been waiting for.

"She is the late Austin King's daughter, Caden. A sister to Lucas King. Taking care of the baby wouldn't be enough." His mother announced.

I blinked. What was she talking about?

"And I said I will take care of the baby. I don't have any business with her or her family.”

"I'm not about to have a grandchild born out of wedlock, so you will marry her.”

His mother said with finality as she stood up. Caden's eyes shot up to her. He stood up as well.

“ You can't possibly say that, mother. I don't know this girl. I have no connection with her.” I watched his jaw tick. His hands clenched like he was holding himself back from hitting something.

I watched the whole exchange in confusion. She didn't even ask for my opinion. Marriage was never in my plans.

“You should have thought about that before sleeping with her. I want my grandchild to be brought up in a home with both parents.”

“Mother, she is a stripper. What would the world say when they learn of this?”

He threw his hands up in frustration, but his mother seemed to be done with the discussion as she left the table.

I braced myself on the chair. Fist clenched tightly around the fork. He kept calling me a stripper. How dare he say that?

“Don't you call me a stripper…” I stood up, my eyes on him

“Or what? Isn't that what you're?” Phoebe retorted and I had to calm down because I didn't want this to backfire.

I sat back down. I needed to act carefully.

I have sacrificed a lot to be here. So what was the harm in marrying him? I mean, I had nothing to lose here.

***

Lucas held my arm in his as we walked down the aisle. I looked through my veil at the people sitting in the audience.

Marigold, who kind of looked proud, Phoebe who looked like she had rather be anywhere else but here. Luna had a sinister expression on her face because she knew exactly what this was all about. Hopefully, my cover didn't blow up before I could finish this.

Caden stood in front of the altar in an expensive black tuxedo, which did not matched the stoic expression on his face.

When I was in front of him, Lucas let go of my hand and went to take his seat in the audience. The priest said a few words, we exchanged vows and it kind of sounded funny to me, given what my mission was.

“ Congratulations, you are now husband and wife. May your marriage be blessed.”

The priest said and stepped behind.

“Kiss the bride,” Luna exclaimed in the audience with her signature high-pitched voice.

“No need for that.” Caden immediately waved it off.

“Kiss the Bride.” Three other voices added behind us.

He rolled his eyes and pulled me by the arm. He lifted my veil off with one hand and leaned in.

I tried leaning back but his hand caught my neck, warmth flushed down my body. His lips landed on mine.

I blinked. My hands itching to hold him as his lips work on mine. Soft, smooth, a delicious taste that I couldn't describe.

Then the warmth left my mouth before i could even digest the whole thing.

He leg go of my hand and made his way to the door.

The rest of us followed behind him. The moment the door was opened, a group of reporters flooded the entrance. Caden quickly stepped behind like he had just been touched with a hot iron.

“He is here.” One of them shouted and immediately the camera lights started flashing in front of us, lights so bright that they could blind someone.

“No. You need to get out of here.” Marigold turned to Caden who was behind me. She protectively clutched his right wrist.

I glanced at Caden whose jaw was tight, sweat breaking on his face.

What was happening to him?

Then it suddenly hit me. The population and questioning. During my years of watching him, I learned he wasn't used to crowds.

On instinct, I grabbed his hand. He hesitated for a while before letting me hold it. I squeezed it gently to calm him down.

Just in time, I caught the side of a back door.

“There's a back door.” He nodded, and we scooted towards the door, and luckily, it was opened.

“Are you fine?” I asked the moment we stepped outside. A soft breath of fresh air hit my body.

Like he just realized I was holding his hand, he seized it and stepped away from me. He then looked at me like I was a stranger like he didn't just marry me.

He rubbed a hand down his face and glared at me with a frown.

“Don't ever come close or touch me, unless I say so.”

He looked down at my stomach.

“We might be married but my only concern is the child you are carrying. Anything else, you should ask my mother.”

A black Sedan pulled up in front of us.

He left me behind and strolled towards it. He entered inside, and then, realizing he was with someone, he sent his head outside.

“Drive with my mother.”

Seriously?

Well, I rode with his mother who kept telling me to be easy with her son because he was always like that. And that I should focus on taking care of the child in me.

She promised to spoil me rotten and I promised to take my revenge.

He had his mother with him, but I did not have mine because of what he did in my land that killed her.

  • Married To The Enemy    He knows

BrunaI was lucky to have made it home earlier that day. It was just the guards and the maids at home when I arrived. I learned Marygold had gone to spend some time with her friends. Talk about hanging around rich people. When I stopped at the bus stop, I had to phone Lucas and ask him to drive me home so that it would look like I was with them.I took in a deep breath as my back landed on the king-size bed, dressed in white sheets with different pillows on it. For a first timer in this room, you had think he was a girl with all these pillows on his bed.Well, people could have whatever they want regardless of gender.I couldn't resist the temptation as I climbed onto the bed and brought the duvet over my head. I loved sleeping with my head covered.Caden wasn't here yet. I should have gotten up and fixed his bed before he came back from Lunaria. Hopefully, he didn't recognize me after that look he gave me.No one could until I was done with what I wanted to do.The only people w

  • Married To The Enemy    Just another person

CadenI would love to say my eyes were deceiving me. That couldn't be her. She didn't know this side of town, and she couldn't have been here out of a sudden. That girl looked exactly like her. She looked at me with a shocked expression on her face. I didn't dwell much on that as I entered my car and drove off.A lot of people who weren't related often looked like each other. She could be just one of those cases. I drove back to the company wishing that the affected family found peace and comfort. I hadn't been able to meet them after the incident. I had asked around if anyone knew who this family was and how I could meet them, but no one knew about them. And this let me do the only thing I could. Keep the land safe for the said family. The land committee wanted to put it out for auction after the family had disappeared for years. When I got wind of the news, I had to do what I could. Buy the land and keep it for them if they ever want to come back for it. I learned the family

  • Married To The Enemy    Did he recognized me?

Bruna.I shouldn't have been doing what I was about to do now as it was quite dangerous. Everything could be ruined if anyone recognized me as his wife although I was under disguise. But then, I came prepared. All I wanted was to visit his company based here in Lunaria and gather all the information I could.I stepped out to the main road and tried to flag down a taxi. A couple of taxis passed by without stopping, until the fifth one."Forestgrove." I leaned in and whispered to the taxi driver. His eyes stayed on me for a while. It was like he was debating taking me there, or he was having a talk with himself about what someone like me wanted to do there."I heard that area is under restriction. No citizen is allowed to go there.""I could be a worker. Are you taking me there or not?"It wasn't like I was asking him to take me there for free. I would pay him. All he had to do was his job and not ask me questions. "Get in."I pushed the door open and got inside. I fished out cas

  • Married To The Enemy    A visit

BrunaHe was always the type to talk back at home. But he was always mute in front of the population. This wasn't my first time seeing him like this. This was a part of him that I was trying to uncover. Why was he always like that? He seemed to have gone through something or maybe something happened to him. Was it just something natural? It was like he had social anxiety. It was clear, given how he struggled to make a speech each time he was out. And then, he wanted to run for president. He is always so nervous and sweaty. I had followed him this morning to a conference outside the city.He was up there to address the crowd and was barely able to say a thing. He stopped between words and looked at the crowd. His mother had been whispering words of encouragement to him, telling him he could do it.Looking at him from where I was next to his mother, I knew something was underneath him and I was ready to uncover that, no matter what. It could be something I could use against him.“

  • Married To The Enemy    No Choice

Bruna Taking food to his office was not on my to do least nor was it something I planned to do in the long run. However,it was the only option I had to get to his company. I needed to know exactly what he was doing. The kind of thing he was involved in. I couldn't miss any chance that could provide me with some useful information. He didn't talk to me; not a single thank you. I had to leave the food and come back home.Though he didn't say a word to me, I knew for a fact that the moment he comes back home, he will be right by my door, giving me warnings to never visit him at his office ever again, or maybe I could only show up if it involves the baby. I was not here for the baby, I was here for him and I will make sure that I get my hands on anything I could, anything that can implicate him and bring him down to his knees. I want to see him suffer. I want to watch him burn. I want to watch everything he has worked so hard for, burn into ashes. He ruined my life and what I was

  • Married To The Enemy    Always Bruna

Caden.I shouldn't have messed up like that. I left the house with everything in mind to say. Still, I could let go of it when I stood behind that podium. That was something I have been trying to let go, but I couldn't. It kept reoccurring. I stared blankly at the laptop in front of me as my mother's words echoed in my mind.I wasn't about to let what had been in my family for the longest time now be taken away and by a man I didn't know. No one has dared stood up against my family requesting a change because they know it bonged to my family. They knew it couldn't happened and then there was Kendrick Taureb who had suddenly showed up. What had he done for the people to accept to his request?I watched his campaign pictures. He was doing enough to get the votes from the public, going to all the remote places to get all the attention. Majority of the country peoples were in this areas. Most of them will readily agree to him if kept providing them with what he was giving them.I
