Meet up

Jake Smith made his way towards the bus stop with an easily detectable fire of anger in his eyes which could burn down an entire city. He had visited his girlfriend, Annie Walter only to catch her shamelessly kissing another man much to his amazement.

Jake was an average working-class young man and despite his workaholic ethics, he had been available for Annie anytime she needed his help. The most painful part of the whole scenario was that they were engaged to get married soon.

He wondered why she could betray him like that repeatedly but regardless of how much such a question needed an answer, there was none.

“I’m so disappointed in her! I thought we had something serious all these years,” he shouted almost in tears not minding that he was in public.

He stopped abruptly after the shout due to his grief making a lady behind hit him. She quickly apologized and tried to walk away but Jake dragged her back forcefully.

“What’s up with you desperate ladies, so all you’d tell me was sorry?” he roared demonstrating in the air as he yelled.

"Excuse me Mr, I already said sorry. What more do you want me to tell you? Perhaps sorry darling? When you can’t control your temper over your wife or girlfriend? Psycho man!" she spat and flung her hand away, flipping her curly red hair on his face as she walked out on him.

"Damn you woman!", Jake cursed silently.

He would have loved to stop her again but he had already gathered some passerbys' attention and didn't want more. He gave some of them an awful look then turned to head straight to the bus station.

"Those two women! Just ruined my day", he muttered and crossed the road, unfortunately not seeing the oncoming car.

He was swiftly knocked down and the noise forced most of the people around to turn back including the lady. She quickly realized it was the psycho she was just in an argument with and rushed to the scene to help him to the nearest hospital.

After she confirmed he was out of danger, she ran out of the hospital to her place of work leaving no trace of her identity. Soon she arrived at work, panting heavily as she entered. She was already late for the show and her colleague were already on the stage with their different attires performing.

"Oops, today is another hell day because of that psycho man", she murmured.

Hours later, Jake recovered and was quick to remember her, having noticed her face through his dizziness as she rushed him to the hospital. He asked a nurse only to find out she was gone and began wondering why she decided to help him despite all the horrible things he did and said to her. To make the matter worst, the nurse informed him she left no name for them.

Days turned into weeks and Jake couldn’t get over the encounter in his ex-girlfriend's house. He had wondered if it was because he was not always available for her, knowing fully well she liked to club all-day if given privileges.

He soon dozed off while gazing at their framed picture hung on the wall until his phone rang. He wondered who could be calling him as he yawned and sluggishly stretched his hand over the other side of the chair.

“Who do I have on the line?", he inquired once he picked up the call.

“Man, this is your best friend, Wilson Oker from..."

"From Hartwood that forgot his only friend, simply because of pretty ladies", he cuts in and they laughed out over the phone.

"It's been a long time, Brother. Come out friend, let's go clubbing, and please don't tell me you're busy this time. Believe me, you'll definitely like this new club and the environment is cool to your taste", Wilson bragged.

"Okay fine, I will come out but I won't stay long because I have some documents to finish up. Text over the location and I'll be there shortly", he assured and dropped the call.

Not long, Jake showed up wearing a simple white shirt, blue trousers, and white sneakers. He wasn't in the mood for preparations when it was just a drink with his best friend.

“Man, I thought you would not make it and give your silly work excuses all the time", Wilson teased and they went inside the club.

The soft music playing, colorful decorations, and type of people coming in really amazed him and he kept staring at the four corners of the walls.

“Wilson", he called out. "This place is nice I must say and the music policy is just undeniably good as well, I was sort of thinking it'll be a noisy club as usual."

“Yeah, you're right. They're damn good in everything so don't stress yourself much. The strippers are about to showcase so pick anyone you like and leave the rest for me", he chuckled with his hand placed over Jake's neck.

They ordered a bottle of champagne as they watched the strippers line up waiting to be called out.

“I don't like all these girls doing this petty job, they're indirectly selling their body," Jake hissed out.

"Don’t be ridiculous man, some of these ladies ain’t prostituting. I know one of them who turned down my huge offer despite several advances, don’t judge a book by its cover you know”

“Whatever! This is my perspective about them and not even this long explanation can change the way I see them either, all girls are the same", he spat back.

The strippers started displaying, one after the other and Jake couldn’t get his eyes off them.

“Man, you seem lost, everything okay?" Wilson asked out of curiosity.

“Wilson I'm fine, just that these girls dancing half-naked are a turn-off for me. Don’t they have boyfriends or husbands if I may ask?"

“Lol, why do you feel so concerned about them? They’re doing it for the money, Mr. Jake Smith", Wilson chuckled as he refilled his glass cup. "Yes, now I remember! You said something earlier about being heartbroken... Wait! Did you break up with Annie?", Wilson inquired and Jake sighed.

"It’s a long story and a sad one. I caught her kissing another guy shamelessly with her door open and even at that...", he trailed off as he raised his eyes to the stage. “Holy F*ck! Sh-she works here as a stripper as well", he stammered.

“Who’s that?", Wilson asked hovering his eyes around to see who he was talking about.

“Nothing man, perhaps I mistook her identity. Besides, I don’t do things with strippers. I have to go now, my headaches", Jake pleaded and left immediately.

“Such manners, always in a haste to probably work or sleep," Wilson hissed and turned to find a lady blinking an eye on him.

He smiled and winked at her then she began to sashay towards him. He adjusted in his seat as she came closer seating more comfortably in preparation.

“What a lucky night,“ he smiled at himself just as she plonked into the space on the seat beside him.

Jake soon arrived home and shut his door with an angry hiss still thinking about the lady who saved him.

'Damn, she’s so pretty! How on earth does she find that petty prostitution in the form of stripping interesting? She didn't dress like one of them on the road though... Or maybe she’s hiding it so that people won't know what she’s doing, he pondered.

“Whatever!", he yelled and flung his hand in the air.

'I wanted to thank her earlier for saving my life but not after finding this out. I'm not gonna try such things with a stripper', he thought and angrily entered his bathroom.

After he finished bathing, he was about to go to bed when his phone rang. He saw it was Wilson and then decided to answer.

“Yes, Wilson? What is it again? It’s quite late and you know I don’t pick calls at this hour," he complained.

“I know man, just that I’m a bit drunk and can’t drive to my house. Please, can you come over and pick me up?”, Wilson yawned over the phone.

"Okay man, I'm on my way right now," he replied then dropped the call and went straight to the door wearing his pajamas along.

On entering the club, he met a man giving money to one of the girls only to see it was the same lady who saved him. He immediately fumed up and then stormed towards Wilson.

“Man, let’s get out of here, some girls are shameless", he glowered and Wilson staggered up to his feet but ended up shattering the glass of wine on the table making her rush to help them out.

Their eyes met as she attempted to help them and she immediately paused now transfixed. She knew they had met but couldn't remember where they could have met. They were already out of sight when she realized it was the same man she saved weeks ago and her eyes widened.

“Oh shit! Today is one of my bad days again! The way he looked at me shows he remembers me and has been watching me perform on stage", she lamented bitterly and sadly returned to the changing room.

Meanwhile, Jake was driving and having a flashback of what he saw minutes ago.

“She’s nothing but a prostitute hiding under the name of stripping. Why else would that old rich man be giving her money, if not for...," Jake was mumbling when Wilson cut in.

“Man, drive faster and stop thinking about your ex-girlfriend!"
