The morning sun broke through coastal fog at six o'clock, casting pale gold light across the harbor basin. Gulls circled above the breakwater, their cries mixing with the distant hum of ship engines.

Inside the Savona Harbor Master office, coffee steam rose from two ceramic mugs on the desk. Windows provided a clear view of Pier 6 and the outer anchorage.

Elena sat behind the mahogany desk, her fingers moving across her laptop keyboard. Official registry databases sat open on her screen alongside the Italian Maritime Code directory.

Dante stood by the window, a pair of heavy brass binoculars resting against his chest. He focused the lenses on a dark fuel tanker riding low in the water two miles offshore.

"The vessel riding at anchor outside the three-mile zone matches the hull profile of the Albatros II."

Elena clicked a digital document link on her screen, pulling up a Panamanian corporate registry index.

"The Albatros II claims registry under a shell firm named Maritime Venture Assets in Panama City. The beneficial ownership certificate lists Don Salvatore Vanezi's younger brother as primary director."

Dante turned away from the window, his expression cold and focused.

"Salvatore uses that vessel as his offshore distribution hub. He siphons fuel from port terminals, pumps it to the Albatros II, and sells it to unregistered foreign freighters in international waters."

Elena printed a legal document from her printer and attached a gold-stamped maritime seal.

"He operates the vessel without a valid Ligurian environmental compliance certificate. Under Article 248 of the Navigation Code, any vessel operating within territorial waters without environmental clearance faces instant possessory arrest by the primary harbor charter holder."

Dante picked up his ceramic mug, taking a sip of black coffee.

"A possessory arrest requires physical seizure of the vessel's bridge and engine logbooks before the master weighs anchor."

Elena handed him the document across the mahogany desk.

"This document constitutes an emergency Admiralty Arrest Warrant issued under joint marital authority of the Rossi-Moretti Maritime Trust. Once you secure the bridge logbook, Salvatore loses legal standing to claim the vessel in any European court."

Dante examined the sharp black ink of the official seal.

"I take Marco and four men on the fast interceptor boat. We board the vessel from the stern quarter."

Elena stood up, pulling her dark wool blazer from the chair back.

"I accompany the boarding party."

Dante narrowed his eyes, his voice dropping into a firm register.

"An offshore boarding operation carries physical risk, Mrs. Moretti. Salvatore's crew on the Albatros II carry automatic weapons."

Elena met his gaze without flinching, adjusting her blazer lapels.

"An admiralty arrest requires an authorized maritime auditor to verify cargo manifests and seal the fuel intake valves. Without my direct audit, Salvatore's attorneys will claim procedural error in Genoa court tomorrow."

Dante studied her face, assessing her posture and unyielding gaze.

"Put on a tactical life jacket and stay behind Marco when we board."

Twenty minutes later, the twin diesel engines of the Moretti interceptor boat roared as the craft cut through the choppy grey waves of the gulf. Spray flew over the windshield, coating the deck in salt water. Marco stood at the helm, throttle levers pushed forward, while Dante checked his automatic shotgun near the stern railing.

Elena stood in the wheelhouse behind Marco, her hand anchored to the brass handrail as the boat crested a six-foot swell.

The towering black hull of the Albatros II loomed ahead through the sea haze. High above the water line, rusty anchor chains hung taut from the bow hawseholes.

Marco matched the interceptor's speed to the tanker's drift, bringing the boat flush against the starboard quarter beneath the bridge wing. Dante threw a titanium boarding hook over the vessel's steel bulwark.

Dante climbed the rope ladder first, clearing the deck railing with smooth movements. Marco followed behind him, weapon raised toward the superstructure.

Elena scaled the ladder third, her boots finding traction on the rungs. She stepped onto the steel deck plates of the Albatros II just as the vessel's first mate ran out from the companionway holding a steel crowbar.

Dante intercepted the mate with a swift stroke from his shotgun stock, dropping the man to the deck plates before he could swing his weapon.

Marco kicked open the heavy door leading to the wheelhouse.

"Harbor authority! Keep your hands visible on the bridge console!"

The vessel's captain, a thick-set Greek sailor with a graying beard, raised his hands away from the engine telegraph.

Dante entered the wheelhouse, his shotgun focused on the captain, while Elena moved straight to the chart table. She retrieved the deck logbook and the master cargo manifest, placing her official admiralty seal across the open pages.

Elena examined the manifest numbers under the bridge light.

"This manifest records eighty thousand barrels of unmanifested marine gasoil loaded from Pier 6 over the past forty-eight hours."

The captain glared at her, his voice rough with anger.

"Don Salvatore owns this cargo!"

Elena closed the logbook with a firm snap.

"Don Salvatore forfeited ownership when he operated an uncertified vessel in territorial waters. This ship now sits under federal admiralty arrest."

Dante stepped toward the captain, taking the master engine keys from the control board.

"Order your crew to secure the anchor winch and prepare for towing into Savona basin."

Two hours later, three heavy harbor tugboats towed the captured Albatros II into the main channel of Savona Port, securing the vessel against the concrete wall of Pier 6.

Don Salvatore Vanezi stood on the quay beside his luxury sedan, surrounded by three attorneys in expensive suits. His face turned crimson as he watched Moretti harbor guards attach heavy steel chains and red lead seals to the tanker's fuel manifolds.

Elena stepped off the gangway, holding the sealed logbook in her hands. Dante walked beside her, his wool coat buttoned against the harbor wind.

Salvatore marched toward them, his hands shaking with fury.

"You have zero legal right to impound my ship, Moretti!"

Elena stopped ten feet away, presenting the stamped admiralty warrant.

"Article 248 grants full possessory rights to the primary charter holder upon proof of illegal fuel transfers. Your vessel sits impounded as collateral against fifty million dollars in port damages."

Salvatore's lead attorney leaned close to his client while reviewing the warrant details. Salvatore shoved the attorney aside, his eyes fixed on Elena.

"You think you can destroy my family with paper decrees?"

Dante stepped between Salvatore and Elena, his shadow falling long across the wet concrete.

"Your fleet sits impounded, Salvatore. Your fuel revenue dies today. If you step onto Pier 6 again, my men arrest you for maritime piracy."

Salvatore stared at the heavy chains on his tanker, his jaw working in silence. Recognizing his defeat, he climbed into his sedan, slamming the door before his driver sped away.

Dante turned to Elena, a quiet look of respect in his eyes as the sun illuminated the harbor.

"The Savona basin stays secure, Mrs. Moretti."

Elena held the sealed logbook close to her chest, her smile cold and confident.

"Our ledgers remain clean, Don Moretti. Now we build our fleet."
