I froze and turned around slowly.

Right before my eyes were a few familiar faces. They were all from my university.

The man at the center was dressed in a suit and had a frigid gaze.

The air of superiority oozed out of every single pore of his body.

Even after five years, I still recognized him immediately.

Clark Stane.

The silence hung in the air for a while, but in the next second, my former university mates started talking.

“Holy crap, it really is Yvonne? What’s up with her clothes?”

“Are her Hermes handbag and Patek Philippe watch fake? How could she possibly buy them?”

“She’s pretending to be rich in front of her ex, only to discover that this is his law firm. I’m going to die.”

Chuckles filled the room, but I was already used to this.

During our university days, they always surrounded Clark while they watched me make a fool of myself.

Back then, practically everyone in the university knew that I liked Clark.

I brought him breakfast every day, waited for his lectures to end, and went with him to the library to study until dawn.

He never said no to my presence, but he never took the initiative either.

At one time, I came down with a 102 degrees Fahrenheit fever, but I still insisted on watching his debate.

After the competition, I was practically dead on my feet. He had given me one look and said coolly, “Let’s try.”

Just like that, we got together.

He was still as aloof as ever after we got together, but during the finals, he would highlight important points for me. Whenever he saw me dozing off, he would threaten me, “If you don’t study properly, I’m going to kiss you.”

When other girls handed him love letters, he held my hand and said, “I have a girlfriend.”

Sometimes, I drooled at the sight of hot guys playing basketball, and he would cover my eyes with his hand.

Then, the next day, he joined the basketball team as well and said that I could only watch him from that moment on.

Back in the day, I thought that this only meant that he truly liked me, but when we were about to graduate, Clark’s childhood friend, Samantha York, got into our university.

She became too close with Clark, and when they were together, I felt like the third wheel.

I kicked up a fuss about it, but Clark would simply scowl and snap at me, “Yvonne, you’re annoying like this.”

Even so, I did not give up.

I thought that if I just bore with it a little longer, things would be better, so I kept putting up with it until my wedding eve.

That day, a drunk driver ran into my mother, and she died on the spot.

That drunk driver had been driving a Porsche, and it was Samantha.

When I reached the police station, I saw her clutching Clark’s sleeve and crying while trembling.

“Clark, I didn’t do it on purpose. I just felt too sad knowing that you’re about to get married, and I drank too much…”

Meanwhile, Clark stood beside her to comfort her. “Don’t worry. I’ll help you.”

At that moment, my blood ran cold.

That night, I canceled our wedding and asked to break up with Clark.

He did not try to salvage our relationship.

He simply remained silent for a long time before whispering, “Samantha is my sister in all but blood. I can’t just abandon her.”

Later on, Clark defended Samantha in court.

The York family was powerful, and Clark himself had a silver tongue. He managed to twist her crime of killing someone while drunk into a normal accident.

In the end, Samantha was only given a suspended sentence.

On the day the sentence was given, Samantha threw herself into Clark’s arms and wept.

Meanwhile, I sat across them and watched Clark hug my mother’s killer.

My father and I could not accept it and continued suing, but before we got any results from it, my father died from the ordeal and from all the hard work he had to put into the case.

The York family also came to view me as an enemy, and I was cancelled, abducted, and had my naked photos taken.

In the end, I fled the country like a dog with its tail between its legs.

As the past memories came flooding back, I felt sick.

Not wanting to stay any longer, I turned to the receptionist. “Cancel the appointment. I’ll go to another law firm.”

However, Clark scrutinized my haute-couture clothes and luxury jewelry like he was someone superior looking at trash. “There’s no need for you to do that.”

He was just as arrogant as ever. “You look cheap.”

I stared at him for a full two seconds before I thought that I was indeed very cheap for tolerating Samantha for him all those years ago.

I snickered and decided to ignore him. I turned around to leave, only to suddenly hear arrogant laughter behind me.

“You clearly came here for Clark, and you’re still not admitting it?”

“She hasn’t given up, has she? Wasn’t she really tough when she canceled the wedding all those years ago?”

“Right now, Clark is the law firm’s partner and is about to marry someone rich. She must be regretting it.”

Their words made me burn in rage.

I could accept them thinking that my handbag and watch were fakes, but I could not accept them thinking that I still loved Clark.

Setting aside the fact that all the bad blood has made me hate him to the core, I had a husband.

If not for the fact that he was busy acquiring an important company, he would have been here with me.

I turned around and glared at them coldly. “Say anything else, and I’ll rip your tongues out.”

Clark only gave me a cool glance before chuckling. “Yvonne, you’re twenty-eight, not eighteen. What’s the point in not admitting that you came all the way to my workplace to see me?”

The fires of my rage reached my head, and I could no longer stay calm. I looked into his eyes and hissed, “My husband is about to transfer all his assets to me. I came here to ask about the laws related to it. As for chasing after you? Clark, you’re just an ex that I don’t even want to admit I ever had. Don’t you think it’s not appropriate for you to flatter yourself so much?”

The entire place burst into a commotion.

We had a grand wedding. Clark had practically brought all the best things in Atila City before me. Roses covered the aisle. Crystal chandeliers lit up the church like stars. As I walked to Thomas in my wedding gown, I suddenly recalled a moment many years ago. I had left Atila City alone, and even surviving was difficult for me. Back then, I thought that the whole world had abandoned me. I never expected that a day would ever come where I would find someone who loved me so much. When we exchanged wedding vows, Thomas was, for once, a little nervous. He held my hand and said, “In the beginning, I only wanted to find a suitable wife who was pretty, smart, knew her place, and could make my grandfather happy.”The audience laughed, especially Jacob. He laughed so much that his beard trembled. I giggled as well. Thomas had his eyes trained on me, and his eyes were full of gentleness. “Later on, I realized that a person could truly become greedy for a person. I started wan

Clark’s actions only served to annoy Thomas. He stood up and punched Clark. Caught off guard, Clark stumbled back, and he immediately started bleeding from his mouth. But Thomas had not had enough. He grabbed his collar with ruthlessness burning in his eyes. “Are you done? Regardless of whether she says yes, she’s still my wife! You have no right to stand here, not when you’ve hurt her before!”Despite being hurt, Clark was still staring at me. However, I simply grabbed Thomas. “Stop.”Thomas turned around. His rage had yet to pass. “Honey, he…”I simply shook my head. “We shouldn’t have our romantic moment ruined because of someone insignificant.”Clark’s face instantly turned pale. Meanwhile, I took the ring from Thomas’ hand and put it on my ring finger. As I stared at the brilliantly red ruby, I smiled. “It’s a beautiful ring.”I looked at him. “I really want to marry you, Thomas.”Thomas’ breathing hitched. Then, he hugged me tightly and kissed me just as fiercely.

I stared into Clark’s eyes and watched him for a few seconds before realizing that he was actually serious. So, I immediately mocked him. “Clark, do you actually want to be my affair partner? But I don’t want you. You can’t compare to my husband at all.”Yet despite what I said, he still refused to give up. “What about him is good? I can learn.”I was stunned. Clark had been so high-and-mighty, so proud, and so aloof in the past. Yet, he was saying such things. Unfortunately for him, it was already too late. As I watched him, I said seriously, “Everything about him is good, because he is Thomas. You’ll never compare to him.”The last spark of hope in Clark’s eyes faded away, and I lost my final bit of patience. “Leave. If you don’t, I’m going to start screaming.”But he hugged me tightly. “Yvonne…”His voice quivered. “You weren’t like this before… You once loved me so much…”At that moment, I felt my mind wander. That was true. The Yvonne in the past truly loved Clark. S

Clark cast me an instinctive glance, and I could see panic on his face. In the next second, he strode over to me and started explaining himself, “Yvonne, don’t misunderstand. This is my cousin. She’s about to get married, and I’m only here to accompany her to try on wedding gowns.”That took me by surprise. I did not know why he was telling me this. Then, I laughed. “What does your cousin have anything to do with me?”He turned pale, but I could no longer be bothered to give him any more of my attention. “Could you leave? I’m going to try on my wedding gowns.”The shop attendant looked troubled. “Mr. Stane, why don’t you…?”However, Clark pretended as if he did not hear me. His eyes landed on the gowns in my hands, and he turned even paler. When he saw a fishtail gown, he teared up. I looked at the gown too and remembered something. Back then, when we prepared for our wedding, the gown I had picked was pretty much the same as this one. I pointed at that gown and said to the s

“What’s got your attention?” Suddenly, I heard Clark speak behind me. I snapped out of my daydreaming and drew the curtains shut. “It’s nothing. I just saw someone unimportant.”The bit of fiery red outside was thus shut behind the thick curtains as I completely blocked it from my life. Clark hugged me from behind and put his chin on my shoulder. “Is he really unimportant?”I turned around, cupped his face, and planted a loud smooch on his lips. “Yes. To me, you’re the most important.”When I said these words, my heart was unprecedentedly light. It was as if I was finally saying goodbye to my past. Clark’s eyes immediately crinkled into a smile. In the next second, he picked me up and brought me back to bed. “You’re so sweet tonight, honey! Let me be sweet to you too.”My instincts immediately cried that things were about to go bad for my back. “Thomas, you—”Before I could finish speaking, he kissed me again. …When it ended, it was dawn. I was so tired that I could no

As Clark watched me hold Thomas’ hand, his face started turning increasingly pale. “That’s impossible…”Thomas chuckled. He hugged me in a clearly possessive manner. “Clark, what exactly do you need us to do for you to believe that we’re an actual married couple?”Thomas gave him a lackadaisical look, but his words were horrible. “Should I do it with my wife in front of you?”My face burned as I smacked him. “What on earth are you saying, Thomas?!”When Thomas saw how exasperated I was, he laughed happily. He grabbed my hand and kissed it. “Why are you feeling embarrassed? It’s normal for a married couple to do such things.”I only turned redder. But Clark’s expression turned as dark as thunderclouds as he stared at Thomas’ hand around my waist. The veins on his temples bulged. Thomas had also clearly lost all his patience. He turned to Clark and said coldly, “Clark, we won’t be sending you off. My wife and I still have something important to do.”He stressed the final fe
