The evening air was crisp as Karen approached Henry’s sleek penthouse. The city stretched below them in a sea of glittering lights, but inside, the atmosphere was warm and inviting.

Henry opened the door before she could knock, dressed casually but impeccably.

“Glad you came,” he said, stepping aside.

Karen smiled, stepping in. “I wouldn’t miss it.”

Dinner was simple but elegant home-cooked pasta, a side salad, and a bottle of wine Henry had been saving for a special occasion.

They sat across from each other, the conversation starting cautiously.

“So,” Karen began, “you really are not as cold as you seem.”

Henry chuckled. “I could say the same about you. More fire than most I know.”

They talked about everything and nothing their childhoods, dreams, and the scars they hid from the world.

At one point, Karen glanced at Henry’s hand. “You carry a lot with you, don’t you?”

Henry’s eyes darkened. “Maybe. But maybe I’m learning to let go.”

The night stretched on, the distance between them shrinking.

When Karen finally stood to leave, Henry surprised her.

“Wait.”

She turned, heart pounding.

“I’m not good at this,” he admitted. “But I want to try.”

Henry poured another glass of wine and leaned back, studying Karen. “You know, most people don’t get this far with me.”

Karen raised an eyebrow. “Maybe they don’t try hard enough.”

He smiled a rare, genuine one. “You’re different.”

The conversation shifted from work to life childhood dreams, regrets, and fears neither expected to share.

Karen found herself laughing at Henry’s dry humor, the weight of his reputation fading away in the warmth of his penthouse.

Then, a serious note settled between them.

“I don’t do easy,” Henry confessed. “Not in business, not in life.”

Karen’s voice softened. “Neither do I.”

Their eyes locked, the room charged with unspoken emotions.

For the first time, Henry’s cold heart felt the stirrings of something real something he wasn’t ready to name but couldn’t ignore.

The air between them thickened as silence stretched longer than either expected. Henry reached out, brushing a stray strand of hair from Karen’s face a simple gesture, but it sent a jolt through her.

“You’re brave,” he said quietly. “More than I ever expected.”

Karen swallowed, heart pounding. “Maybe because I don’t have a choice.”

Henry’s eyes searched hers. “What do you want, Karen? Really?”

She hesitated, then whispered, “To be seen. Not just as the coffee girl, not just as a partner in business. As someone who matters.”

He nodded slowly. “I think I’m starting to understand.”

A tentative smile broke across her lips.

The cold hearted CEO was thawing. And Karen wasn’t sure if she was ready or if she even wanted to be.

Henry’s hand lingered a moment longer before he pulled back, leaving a charged space between them.

Karen glanced away, feeling warmth creep up her neck.

“I’m not used to this,” Henry admitted, voice low. “Letting someone in.”

Karen met his gaze again. “Maybe it’s time to change that.”

He nodded, a rare softness in his eyes. “Maybe it is.”

They sat in comfortable silence, the city lights casting shadows that danced around them.

For the first time, the walls Henry had built felt less like a fortress, and more like a home.

Henry finally stood and walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing out at the city below. “This view… it’s like a reminder of everything I’ve built and everything I’ve lost.”

Karen stepped closer, her voice soft. “Maybe you’re not meant to lose anymore.”

He didn’t turn around but spoke without looking. “You think someone like me deserves a second chance?”

She smiled gently. “Everyone does. Even the coldest hearts.”

He finally looked at her, eyes searching. “Maybe you’re the one who’s going to teach me how to warm up.”

Karen’s heart skipped. “I’m not an expert, but I’m willing to try.”

The tension in the room shifted from wary to hopeful.

For the first time, Henry felt the possibility of something more.

And Karen wondered if this unexpected partnership could become the most important chapter of their lives.

Henry finally broke the silence. “Karen, I don’t do relationships. Not really. Not after what I’ve been through.”

She took a deep breath, stepping closer. “Maybe you don’t have to. Maybe you just need someone to stand beside you.”

He looked down at her hand, which had tentatively reached for his. The rough edges of his world softened for a moment as their fingers intertwined.

“I’m scared,” he admitted quietly.

Karen smiled softly, squeezing his hand. “Me too. But sometimes, fear means you’re about to grow.”

Henry’s eyes held hers, vulnerability raw and real. “I don’t know where this goes.”

“Neither do I,” she whispered. “But I’m willing to find out.”

They stood together, two souls on the edge of something new fragile, uncertain, but full of hope.

Henry pulled Karen closer, the warmth between them growing.

“I never thought I’d trust someone again,” he murmured.

Karen looked up, eyes shining. “Maybe trust is the hardest thing to give and the most worth fighting for.”

Their lips met in a tentative, electric kiss hesitant but full of promise.

Pulling back slightly, Henry whispered, “This is just the beginning.”

Karen smiled, heart racing. “Then let’s make it count.”

Outside, the city lights sparkled, but inside Henry’s penthouse, a new light was burning one that neither of them could ignore.

They stayed close, the silence now filled with unspoken understanding. Henry’s usual guardedness softened with every breath they shared.

Karen rested her head against his chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart proof that beneath the cold exterior was a man craving connection.

“I don’t want this to be just a fling,” she whispered.

Henry tightened his arms around her. “Neither do I.”

For the first time, vulnerability wasn’t a weakness it was a bridge between two unlikely souls.

As the night deepened, they both knew their lives were about to change forever.

Karen sat in the sleek, minimalist lounge of Frost Enterprises, her fingers tapping nervously on the armrest. The atmosphere was tense, the kind that made even the air feel heavy. She glanced at her phone, the screen displaying a flurry of notifications photoshopped images of Henry and Delilah, headlines questioning her credibility, and comments that stung more than she cared to admit.Henry entered, his presence commanding as always. He held a tablet, swiping through the same images that had flooded Karen's feed."They're trying to paint a narrative, one where you're the unstable one, and Delilah is the victim."Karen looked up, her eyes meeting his. "And what do we do about it?"Henry's jaw tightened. "We control the narrative."He handed her the tablet, now displaying a draft of a press release. "We're going public with the truth. The fake emails, the doctored photos, all of it."Karen read through the document, her heart pounding. "This will expose everything."Henry nodded. "It's

Karen woke up to the aroma of freshly brewed coffee wafting through the penthouse. She stretched, feeling the plush sheets beneath her, and smiled. For a moment, the chaos of the previous day felt like a distant memory. She padded into the kitchen, finding Henry already dressed, sipping his coffee while scrolling through his tablet and then she sat on the couch, wearing Henry’s ridiculously oversized hoodie and sipping iced coffee like it was her last source of sanity. Her phone was buzzing non-stop.Mia: “Girl, why is Jace suddenly popping up everywhere like a glitch in the Matrix?”Karen rolled her eyes and texted back: “Because the universe is toxic.”Henry walked in, tossing a file on the coffee table. “Found something. Jace’s sudden reappearance? Delilah’s backing him. Fully.”Karen didn’t even look up. “Shocking. Truly.”He sat across from her. “They’ve got something they think will break you. Or us. But they don’t know who they’re messing with.”Karen narrowed her eyes. “I d

  • Married to the Cold Hearted CEO    Chapter 34: Scars and Champagne

The elevator ride up to Henry’s penthouse felt unusually quiet. Karen stood beside him, heels in hand now, her shopping bags slung over one shoulder, her mind still buzzing from the mall encounter and that phone call. Henry looked over, one brow slightly raised. “You really enjoy messing with my accounts, don’t you?” Karen smirked. “It’s not about the money. It’s the principle. I needed those heels for emotional healing.” “You could’ve bought the store.” “Maybe next week.” The doors slid open. The penthouse was dark except for the city lights pouring in through the glass walls. Karen dropped her bags on the couch, walked barefoot into the kitchen, and grabbed a bottle of champagne. Henry leaned against the counter, watching her. “I didn’t expect this life,” she said suddenly, popping the cork. “Any of it. You. Them. This.” He said nothing. She poured two glasses and passed him one. “Do you ever get tired of being cold?” Henry studied her. “No. Cold keeps people out.” “But

Karen sat on the edge of Henry’s desk, staring out at the skyline. The city looked calm but her life? A full-on battlefield.“I still can’t believe how fast that went down,” she muttered, arms crossed.Henry, standing by the bar in the corner, poured a drink with his usual ice-cold precision. “Fast is good. Gives them less time to wiggle out.”She turned to him. “You don’t even look phased. You just ended her.”He handed her a glass. “I don’t flinch for snakes.”Karen gave a half-smile. “I forget how cold you really are.”“Don’t forget,” he said, voice low. “It’s why you’re still standing.”Before she could answer, his phone buzzed. He checked it, brows drawing low.“What?” Karen asked.“Jace is pushing an article to the press. Twisting the Delilah mess like you orchestrated it to climb your way to the top.”Karen’s stomach turned. “Of course he is.”Henry didn’t hesitate. He tapped something on his phone. “He wants war.
