Rosalia

I sighed in exasperation as I walked down the subway steps, planning to board the earliest train and lock myself in my apartment before I started going crazy. I lost my job again. It is literally the fifth one this year and this is only March. Courtesy of the world being filled with shitty people. Not that I regret losing the job, it was worth it if it meant hitting sense into disgusting people.

Whenever I remember what had transpired earlier, disgust immediately fills my gut. "it's not worth it"

"Did you hear about the prisoners that were released today? I even learnt one of them was a grapist" One of the girls standing beside me at the train station was saying to her friend, making me glance briefly in their direction.

"God help us, people like that should be allowed to rot there Instead of being released. Do they think they'll change or what after spending some time in that place, they'll obviously be out for more blood" Another had replied. Indeed a piece of trash like that never changes but only gets worse.

The first girl was about saying something when another person immediately called "The train is here".

I pulled my cotton jacket closer to me, not because I was feeling cold or anything but to keep my wits around me. I can't lose my shit out here, at least not until I get into the safety of my apartment which soon won't be mine anymore if I can't pay my rent.

Living is not for the weak, if you ask me.

The ride in the train wasn't as uneventful as I had expected. Seems people didn't use this line that much today. I alighted at my stop but froze on my tracks due to the silhouette my eyes landed on. I immediately recalled the words of the girls from the train station. "Did you hear about the prisoners that were released today? I even learnt one of them was a grapist"

Lo and Behold, he was right here in front of me unless my eyes were playing tricks on me which I'm certain isn't the truth. He's right there, in flesh and with the same indignant expression he wore when he was being taken by the police, two years ago. Oh, it was two years already?

So, was he out now and about to kill me as he had promised? I stared back at him with the same intensity he held. He might be able to scare other girls but not me. Truth be told, I'm actually scared but not while we are in public where everyone could see us. Unless he wanted to go back to where he's coming from.

He didn't move either, just staring at me like he wanted me to feel his presence, to know he was out and could get me anytime. Howard Walter, the director of the orphanage I used to work for two years ago. And yes, I had been the one to send him to prison after finding evidence of his crime.

He smiled, a creepy one then turned around to leave. I watched as he disappeared in the crowd then breathed relief. Guess I was more scared than I thought. Maybe I should call the police? But he hadn't done anything so there wasn't much evidence against him.

I headed for my beautiful and cozy apartment. Lies. The elevator in the building had stopped working and the landlord had refused to fix it so I had to walk to the eighth floor. Lucky me. After successfully climbing the stairways to heaven, like I love calling it, I headed for my apartment which was strangely dark. It shouldn't be. I never allowed the light around my apartment to go out, like never.

I stopped on my tracks and stared at the darkness. It couldn't be that Howard had set a trap for me, right? But he doesn't know my apartment, so it shouldn't be. We can never tell with a criminal though. So I brought out my electrocuting battery and my cellphone so I can turn on the light. I wasn't someone who was afraid of the darkness normally but something about today sends chills down my spine. It better not be Howard or I'll kill him myself.

I input my password into the door and realised it was already opened. Someone was inside. Perfect. I entered anyway. You'll argue that I'm stupid and I know I am but I'm not the type to back off from a challenge. The moment I got in, I reached for the switch and turned it on. The living room was instantly filled with warm lights and I could see the back of a man sitting on my couch. That wasn't Howard, it definitely wasn't cuz this person was in a suit and was oozing such a dangerous aura that makes me want to dash for the door. But this was my house...at least until further notice so I can't have a stranger scaring me in it.

"Who are you?" My voice was unexpectedly clear and did not hold any trepidation, thank God.

The man sitting on the couch got up and slowly turned to me. For whatever is in the heavens and earth does he look breathtaking. His dark orbs widened a bit as if he was surprised to see me then it quickly went as it came then he took in my appearance which made him frown.

"You are Rosalia?" He asked like he was waiting for me to deny it. But I didn't, I was indeed Rosalia.

"Yes and you are what? An intruder?" No matter how dangerous he looked, he can't just burst into my house and be asking my name. Though I admit I liked the way he said my name but that's not the point, is it?

His brows furrowed slightly "You don't know who I am?" I barely managed to stop myself from calling him ridiculous. Am I supposed to? God please help me from this hot intruder who seems to think he's some kind of celebrity I'm suppose to know about.

He started walking closer to where I'm standing and even though I wanted to move back in response, I couldn't, which was strange. He looked like he might snap my neck the moment he gets to me but I still didn't take a step backwards which seemed to amuse him.

He stopped and peered down at me "I am your husband"

  • Married to the Maniac Don    Chapter 60

Serena Seven months into pregnancy and I could already tell why some women refused to get pregnant. Though, I didn't regret mine, especially not when I felt the baby kicking inside of me or whenever I got to see that a little life was indeed growing in me. Or my absolute favourite is the way my husband's eyes lit up when I talk about anything related to the future of the child. Today, we had just returned from the hospital where we ran some tests and had confirmed our baby was in the best state. Damien had been elated when we watched the baby through the monitor. I personally think, he was the one most anticipating the birth of the baby. "What do you think we should name the baby?" I asked Damien when we got to the room. He was already pulling off his attire, perhaps to go and have his bath. "Aurora" He says without giving it a second thought and I could tell he had thought about it a lot. "Why Aurora, though?" I asked, intrigued. "It's the Roman goddess of Dawn's name" He said

  • Married to the Maniac Don    Chapter 59

Damien Ever since Alessandro had arrived, my wife's attention had been on him which is very annoying. Even though I knew I was being selfish and that she needed time to get along with her brother because there wasn't a fixed time for when they could meet again, I couldn't stop myself from being irritated by him. They've been talking and laughing nonstop and I wondered what the hell they've been talking about. What was so funny? I don't like him one bit. And it has everything to do with him being someone she loves. Even if they were siblings.Everyone took their seats at the dining table, while Serena and Daisy started dishing the meal. I stood to help her and made sure she sat before I continued what I was doing. Her belly was already round like a little ball was strapped into it, and I was afraid for her every moment of the day. Even seeing her walking seemed dangerous to me but the woman doesn't even seem to care about her condition as she keeps running and jumping around the ho

  • Married to the Maniac Don    Chapter 58

Serena Waking up to being in my husband's safe and warm embrace is my absolute favourite part of being married. Being spooned in his arms to sleep and waking up to him dropping kisses all over my face. Absolute heaven. I hope I'll be able to wake up to this for the rest of my life. Damien stopped dropping kisses on my face as his warm eyes met mine. It's almost like a dream with the way his eyes soften when it meets mine, contrary to the man I had met on that night almost a year ago. "What's wrong?" Even his tone was laced with concern which tugs at my heart every damn time. "I love you" I declared and watched as his eyes widened a bit before it transformed into a shit-eating grin. "You are finally willing to admit it, uhn?" He continued peppering kisses all over my neck and throat. I nodded. "It wasn't that hard to say, I was just having fun withholding it from you" He smiled "I know which was why I let you have your fun" He then disappeared into the duvet. I already knew what

  • Married to the Maniac Don    Chapter 57

Serena I had thought breaking the news of my pregnancy was going to be difficult but surprisingly, it wasn't. Because Damien had taken pleasure in doing it himself. He had told literally everyone in the New York Cosa Nostra and even warned them not to frighten me the slightest. My security had tightened and I was barely allowed anywhere without an escort. Even though I knew he was doing it out of concern, it was still annoying. "Your husband is insufferable, he specifically warned me not to sit too close to you or even get too excited around you. Being pregnant doesn't equal a deadly illness" Mia said exasperated as she took her seat opposite me on the couch. Since he had stopped me from going to work, I could only stay home and receive visitors but at least I wasn't alone at home. He had also brought his work home and did everything in his study instead. When I had broken the news to Alesso, I made sure it was a video call so I could see his expression. He had gone quiet for se

  • Married to the Maniac Don    Chapter 56

Serena I had promised Mia to visit her today but instead, I was on my way to the Clinic because my husband insisted I see a doctor after he caught me almost collapsing after work, yesterday. I had gone to his office after work yesterday so we could leave together. Then I had felt dizzy all of a sudden. He panicked and had even wanted us to visit the hospital immediately but I managed to stop him. But he had only let me make the decision yesterday and I realised that when he told me we were visiting the hospital as soon as we had breakfast. Imagine my shock? I thought he had let it go since I was already healthy this morning but he didn't. So, my plan had swiftly changed from visiting my friend to visiting the hospital. We passed by Mia's home and I glanced at my husband, perhaps he would allow me to visit Mia first before heading for the clinic but he behaved like he didn't notice it. Stubborn brute. "It's not that serious, you know. I was only slightly tired last night and sin

  • Married to the Maniac Don    Chapter 55

Serena My favourite day of the week is undoubtedly Sunday. Since I don't go to work that day, Damien also decided to spend the day with me without working, unless it was an emergency. Currently, we were curled up on the couch, with Damien laying on the couch and me curled into him while we watched a Rom-Com movie which as you might have guessed, I forced him to watch. I've been doing that for months now, so he doesn't even bother arguing anymore but that accepted his fate. I heard him grumble over my head "This shit is boring" I swat his chest. "It's not!" He pulled my head away from his chest so I could look up at him, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "I happen to know something interesting we could do" His voice dripped low as his hand started moving over my body and towards my hips, I let him. "Do you?" He nodded earnestly. "Mia would soon be due to give birth, we should also start preparing for ours. We could have a baby girl while they have a boy. Then she'll be my little
