He should have been back by now. My eyes protested for the millionth time as I kept on pacing up and down the room after Theo left. It’s been almost one hour since then and he wasn’t back. Anyone would think that she would send him back, especially after everything the king had done to her. But that girl was far too stubborn for my liking. The sound of heavy footsteps stopped my pacing. I listened, and the footsteps were headed towards Theo’s room. “Finally,” I muttered, smiling slightly. I quickly made my way to the end of the room that was shrouded in darkness, and sat perfectly still, my nightgown draped loosely over my body. I heard the door click, and watched as Theo walked in, his shoulders sagged. He looked tired, and a bit down, more than he had looked before he left. I guess the witch really did push him away, seeing the pitiable state that he came back in. They say the best time to make a move is when a ma~Storme~The next few days passed in a blur. I focused on serving the king his usual dose of tea, making sure that he gets a little sip each day. Karen, on the other hand, hadn’t stopped bugging me even though I tried my best to avoid all her shenanigans. I wasn’t about to be distracted by her. Not now, or ever.I turned over the page of the new romance book that I was currently reading, cursing at the female lead who couldn’t quit making me worry about ever move that she makes. Grace moved around me, cleaning up my room for the night and making sure that everything was in order. Hopefully, this would be a night that I can rest peacefully without the alpha king demanding to see me on his bed.Because of the daily dose of tea, he hadn’t been as strong as he used to. I’ve seen him become out of breath after doing the slightest thing, and I’ve seen him subtly hide the blood that he had coughed out once or twice. The Pack doctor had examined him and promised that there was n
~Storme~It was finally time to carry out what I’d conceived all this while. It was finally time to begin my revenge on the king. Nervousness flicked in my belly. I pushed it down, focusing on the emotion that I was amassing into my palm. The flames went on and off as I stared into my open palm. It wasn’t enough to feel it anymore. I needed to see and control it. I closed my eyes, and inhaled deeply, reaching into that part of myself that I’d tried so much to hide. The one that itches when my emotions ran too high, and when rage curled around my chest like a noose.By the time I opened my eyes, I could feel the heat coming up in my palm. I controlled my breathing and kept visualizing the flame. Just like Geniee had taught me, I imagined that my palm was alive and obedient to my will.Soon enough, a small flame began dancing on my palm. It didn’t burn. It felt like warm steak, not enough to burn my hand, but also filled with so much magic that I almost couldn’t stand.

~Theo~Karen was at it again. Trying relentlessly to seduce me. it didn’t help that she had moved some of her things into my room, courtesy of my father’s agreement. These days, I barely had the strength to fight her, especially since the woman whom I was trying to fight for had pushed me aside because of a threat that my father issued.“Theo.”I looked down at her, glancing at that horrendous night wear that barely covered her thighs, watched as she batted her lashes and pressed her body close to mine.“I don’t want to hurt you, Karen. I’m not in the mood for your mindless, inefficient seduction tricks right now.”“Come on, Theo. I’m a woman with needs too, you know,” she purred, her lips trying to trail kisses along my jaw, her voice breathy, “Why can’t you just bring yourself to make love to me? Am I so undesirable that you push me away whenever I come close to you?”The tone of her plea almost made me feel sorry for her. After all, she was just a woman wh
~Storme~It was time for another session with Geniee. This time, however, to not make it look suspicious, we choose to have this in the daytime. After the king caught me the other night, rumors of me having affair with different men had somehow permeated through the palace. And even though the servants all hush when they see me walking past, there was never a doubt to what they’d been discussing initially. The weather was a bit chilly, so I threw a cute, grey woolen blanket around my shoulders. I might be on my way to becoming a witch, but that will not happen if I catch pneumonia. There’s no saying that my new-found speedy recovery would work with that.I pulled my covering tighter around me as I walked to the hidden, most rarely used part of the palace. It had been two days since the whipping, and even though I could move now, the memories of the injustice that had been done to me couldn’t leave my mind. I don’t think that I’ve wanted to get back at someone as badly as
~Storme~My body ached, heavy and sore, but I could feel the softness of my sheets beneath me. I opened my eyes and blinked slowly, allowing myself to adjust to the light."Storme?" a voice gasped.I turned slightly, and saw Grace hovering over me, her eyes wide with relief. "You're awake! Thank the goddess, you're awake."Her voice trembled as she clutched my hand, tears pooling at the corners of her eyes. I gave her a weak smile. "Grace," I whispered, my throat dry. "Theo... is he okay? Did he... stay?"Grace nodded, brushing strands of hair from my damp forehead. "He stayed until you were stable. He didn’t want to leave, but he didn’t want you to open your eyes and get mad when you see him beside you."A pang of guilt twisted in my chest. I wished he had stayed. I wished I could have seen his face one last time before sleep pulled me under. But I knew he couldn't. Not with everything happening between us.I tried to push myself up, but a sharp tug of
