7: Why Me?

Abby’s POV

"I will never come back to you again!" I yelled at him while crying and then walked away from him. My eyes are already swollen from sobbing as a result of the agony and misery that has been inflicted upon me.

"Stop running away from me, Abby!" He spoke gently, yet his voice was so compelling that it could make me stop walking, and I looked at him with a fierce and penetrating gaze.

"Do you know why I always try to avoid you? It's because I don't even know you." I answered him in a calm voice, and when I didn't hear anything back, I just turned around and got in a taxi to go somewhere far away from him.

I took a deep breath and reached for my purse to find my credit card to pay for the taxi. When I got to the place where I used to live when I was young, I realized that this is where I tried to save all my money for a small apartment when I was in college, and now I'm here. I'm back in this place again.

I opened the door to the old apartment with the keys in my purse and turned on the light. Then, as I was getting ready to go to my room, I saw old pictures of Miguel and me. I miss those blue eyes that smiled at me and the way we breathed together under the sunlight. I never told him how much I loved him, and he died without ever hearing those words. I really miss everything about him.

The person who killed him was still free to move around in this country. I wish that someone could make things right for him after what happened to him.

I took the picture frame and put it on the table while I quietly cried. Then I felt something strange in the picture frame. Behind the picture frame was a flash drive. I took it, and my eyes furrowed while staring at it, and I started to open my laptop to check what was inside. But it needs a strong password, and I have no idea what it is.

"I'm glad you already found it..." I took out the flash drive and stared at the strange man in the doorway, where he was standing calmly.  He moved forward and said, "Abby, give me the flash drive."

"Who the hell are you?!" I yelled at him, and his tongue clicked because he didn't like my question. "I'm not someone you'll want to know about! Give me that fucking flash drive and I won't kill you." But I can't give him this flash drive. Maybe Miguel thinks this is so important that he put it here so no one else can find it.

"No, I won't!" I took a step back and looked for a way out, but there wasn't one. When I turned my head to look at the man who was waiting for me to escape, he already had his gun pointed at me.

"If you move, you'll die." He made me feel scared with his scary voice.

What in the world is going on? Why do these terrible things always seem to happen to me? I was gasping for air like crazy, and my forehead was dripping with sweat. I went completely still as I stared at him and waited for him to pull the gun's trigger. I might die today. Maybe—

Then I heard a few gunshots around the area. I tightly shut my eyes and listened to the man next to me groan in pain and drop his hurt body to the floor. I opened my eyes and started shaking out of fear as I saw the man's blood streaming down on the floor. I looked around, and my eyes landed on the man who had just saved my life. It was Fabian who looked dangerously furious looking at the man who tried to hurt me.

“Get in the car, we should get out of here!”

“You… You killed him!” I screamed at him because I was scared, and he looked at me and said, "It's okay, Abby... be with me tonight, your life is in danger! Trust me, okay?"

I slap his chest while crying and panicking hysterically, “No…I won’t.”

"Well, I can't do anything else but bring you with me!" He took my fragile body outside and shoved me into his car. Then he put the seatbelt around me and locked the car so that I couldn't escape him.

"What... What're you doing?" When I felt like he had injected me with something that could make me weak and sleepy at the same time, I bit my lower lip and moaned in pain.

"Sleep, sweetie."

**********

I awoke with handcuffs on my wrists and chained to the bed. However, Fabian was standing so calmly and looked directly into my eyes while wearing a basic t-shirt that could make him appear to look so hot.

He's a fucking crook, and I'm not attracted to him.

I slowly closed my eyes, and he sat down on the bed and leaned forward to look at my face. He put a slender finger on my chin and lifted it to level with my face, saying, "Don't be afraid of me, you're safe now."

"What is going on? Where's the flash drive?" I asked in panic.

"Don't worry about it, I've got it covered." He looked at me with a stern look in his eyes, and his pink lips parted smoothly.

"I'm curious about what's going on."

He took the handcuffs off my wrist and said, "Promise me you'll never run away from me."

"I can't make that promise."

He heaved a sigh, took a long breath, and then looked at me and said, "Why do you make this so hard for me, Abby? Why are you trying to escape me when I can give you everything you want in this world?"

"Why do you keep trying to get close to me? I don't know you, and you don't know me. You're rich, so you can have all the beautiful and rich girls you want. Why...Why me?"

"Because you're different,"  He said.
