But Gerald’s wife looked familiar, and he seemed to have heard her name before…

North Myers…

Colt repeated her name in his mind a few times before he remembered. He whipped his head up. He was so shocked he did not know what to say.

“Aren’t you Henry Myers’s eldest daughter, the one who was exposed for cheating during the wedding yesterday—I mean, the one who was the limelight during the wedding yesterday? Gerald, you actually married someone Eiger South doesn’t—”

He swallowed his last word, but North understood what he was trying to say.

Colt was in disbelief and shock that Gerald had married his nephew’s fiancee.

After all, it was against morals for Gerald to be in a relationship with his nephew’s ex-fiancee.

Gerald’s gaze darkened, and he hummed. “You can go now.”

Colt, too, wanted to stay far away from them because they were surely going to bring about a lot of trouble in their wake. He cleared his throat. “Goodbye, Ms. North. By the way, Gerald, that person has shown up. You can check up on them when you’re free.”

Then, he fled with the speed of someone escaping for his life.

Gerald examined North while they walked toward the elevator. After some time, he said, “It looks like you’ve already cleared up the rumors circulating after the wedding yesterday. You’re much faster than I thought when it comes to taking action.”

North spluttered. Why did she feel like Gerald was sounding her out?

“It’s simply good luck. I happened to run into the person Melinda hired. That’s why things went so smoothly.”

Gerald smiled. “Is that so?”

He had also investigated the person who photoshopped the photos and created the rumors, but he found him after her. It seemed like North was much more aggressive than he thought she was.

North could not quite figure out what he meant.

At that moment, Connor opened the car door for them.

“Why are you in the hospital, Mr. Gerald?” North asked to change the topic.

Gerald narrowed his eyes. “I came here to deal with some troublesome stuff caused by the younger members of my family.”

Troublesome stuff?

After some thinking, North guessed what he meant.

It was probably about Eiger wishing to cancel the engagement.

North’s brows scrunched together when she thought about the engagement cancellation.

Her mother’s engagement gift to the South family was a pendant, but she had stated clearly that it would only belong to the South family after North married into it.

That pendant was a redemption ticket for a favor from a person in the Imperial City. It was the reason why Eiger did not cancel the engagement even though he hated North.

The pendant was in North’s hands, so Melinda had to be already thinking of ways to take it from her.

But if she gave it to Gerald…

At that thought, North looked at Gerald and gave him a bashful smile. “Mr. Gerald, to celebrate our marriage, I’d like to give you a pendant, and I think there’s no better date than today to do it. What do you think?”

The car fell silent.

Gerald looked in her direction. When he saw the word “South” carved onto the pendant, he smiled and retorted, “I think it’s a bad idea. How could you give me the engagement gift you presented to your ex-fiance? Are you offering me a present meant for someone else, or are you just recycling your gifts?”

North fell silent.

Why didn’t he say no to marrying his nephew’s ex-fiancee, then?

Her smile nearly fell, but she forced herself to maintain it. “How could you say I’m recycling my gifts? My mother promised this pendant to the South family as an engagement gift. It’s going to belong to you sooner or later, so you getting it now versus you getting it later makes no difference.”

Gerald narrowed his eyes.

Why would the engagement gift meant for the South family belong to him sooner or later?

For some reason, he felt that he had overlooked something really important.

Gerald stared at North, and his gaze grew increasingly more dangerous. Suddenly, he came up with a guess.
