Connor stopped the car and said respectfully, “Mr. Gerald, we’ve reached Dew Garden.”

North looked up in shock. Dew Garden was a diner famous among the upper-class society. Melinda was its loyal patron, but North had never eaten inside it before.

Why did Gerald bring her here?

Gerald toyed with the pendant and pushed his guess to the back of his mind. “Since you want to give me the pendant, I’ll take it,” he said with a chuckle. “But I can’t just take the pendant without giving anything in return, so I’ll treat you to a meal. Come.”

North was relieved when he accepted the pendant, but she soon became puzzled. How did he know that she had always wanted to come to this diner? Was it just a coincidence?

Before she could think more about it, she heard jarring voices not too far away.

“That woman isn’t worthy of my son. I’m already showing her respect by canceling the engagement. She’s just a country bumpkin. Now that Eiger doesn’t want her, no one else will either!”
