LOGINChapter five
Scarlett's pov "Is she awake?" I heard a small voice ask as I struggled to open my eyes. The voice sounded vaguely familiar but I just couldn't place it. I felt a poke at my side and my lips parted but no words left my lips. "Diana come back here," another familiar voice called out. My eyes slowly cracked open and as I tried to rise, I groaned from the sheer pain that shot through me. I heard a little shriek before there were retreating footsteps. "She's awake Aunt Nora," the little voice proclaimed and my brows furrowed lightly. Could it be? "Alright Diana, out you go. You aren't allowed to disturb the patients," the familiar voice told the child, and after a series of whining the child eventually left the room. "How are you feeling?" A soft voice asked me, seconds before Nora's familiar face came into my line of sight. I tried to speak but my throat was parched and my lips were cracked and dried, Nora seemed to notice my struggle and she picked up a bottle of water that rested on my side table and slowly brought it up to my lips. "Easy," she whispered as I greedily gulped down the water until the bottle was empty. "Nora?" My voice croaked as my brows furrowed and I looked at her while her lips parted in shock. Was I dead and this was the afterlife? Or was the universe just against me? The events of the last day came rushing into my mind and I gasped as I stared at Nora with wide eyes. Was everything I experienced...from losing my mate to getting burned at the stake just a bad dream? As much as I wished that were the case it was glaringly obvious that it was not. "How do you know my name?" She asked slowly. "How did I end up here?" I inquired ignoring her question. "Some men brought you back, they said they found you by the shore of the ocean," she informed me skeptically and I slowly nodded. "What pack is this?" I asked as my heart beat loudly in my chest. "The Nightshade pack...why?" Nora confirmed my suspicions and my lips parted in shock. What were the odds that I had landed up in my former pack? How was this even possible? "Hey, are you alright?" Nora, Silas' sister...my Silas, or at least before he was mine, asked as she stared at me worriedly. I tried to calm my breathing as I wrapped my head around what was going on. I struggled to rise but pain shot through me and I collapsed back onto the bed. "Take it easy for now. You've been unconscious for a whole day and I can only imagine your body hurts and you feel weak," Nora informed me as she began to check my vitals. "You need as much rest as you can get for now if you want to leave that bed anytime soon," she continued as she completed her check and I merely stared at her. "Everything seems alright. I'll have a light breakfast sent up for you since you really can't ingest anything heavy for the time being...you are very lucky though," Nora commented as she read some notes from her notepad. "Why do you say so?" I asked weakly. "Because when you were brought here you were pale and blue, it was obvious you had been in the water for a long time and you were barely alive... honestly I didn't think you would survive because we battled a fever all night, it only broke this morning," Nora explained and my heart dropped. At least that explained why I still felt cold despite the layers of blankets wrapped around me. "Why did those men bring me here? They don't know me and they could have left me to die," I pointed out. "We aren't exactly the heartless sort in this pack," she informed me. "Yet you burned your Luna at the stake without finding out if she was guilty," a bitter part within me reminded but I ignored it. "I'm a lone wolf, a rogue...what do you intend to do with me?" I questioned after a moment. "That's not for me to decide. That's Alpha Silas' call, whatever he decides to do with you stands," she informed me with a shrug and my heart dropped at the mention of my mate...former mate. My heart still ached as I recalled how he stared back at me as I got burned at those stakes with cold, unfeeling eyes. "He has been alerted that you are in the pack and a guard has been stationed in front of your room -" she began and a small frown graced my lips. "So I'm your prisoner now?" I cut her off. "No but you are a rogue and we let you into our pack. We don't know if you harbour ill intentions and we have to keep an eye on you," Nora explained and although it made perfect sense, it still grated on my nerves. "When you are feeling much stronger Alpha Silas would be notified and he would come to talk to you by himself, that would determine what happens to you next," she continued as I stared blankly at the wall opposite me. Nora remained silent as she stared at me but I paid her no mind, she would go when she was ready to. My heart leaped and bled within me at the same time, at the thought of seeing Silas again. "Can I ask what happened?" She broke into my thoughts. "How did you end up in the water? There are a few bruises and cuts along your body," she informed me but I remained silent and turned away from her. She sighed as she seemed to get the hint that I wouldn't be telling her anything and she headed to the door. "If you need anything just let me know." She announced before she closed the door behind her, leaving me with my thoughts. I stared at the familiar walls of the pack clinic and I couldn't help but wonder how my entire world turned upside down in a matter of mere days.Chapter 188Scarlett's pov I couldn't stop replaying what had happened the day before. My mind was a jumbled mess and I recalled Jasper's words and his actions with Aria throughout the picnic. I couldn't place it but I felt as though something was wrong. I recalled the argument in the garden and then the subtle looks they kept on sending each other and I wondered if I was reading more into it than I should. It almost seemed like something was going on between them but that was simply impossible...or was it?No, they both had mates who loved them and it would be ridiculous to think that they would be cheating on them. It had to be something else but then what?"That book has been upside down for the last ten minutes," Nora's voice startled me out of my thoughts."You scared me," I muttered as I placed a hand against my racing heart and Nora cocked her head to the side as she regarded me."I walked into this room, rather noisily, twenty minutes ago and you didn't even notice. What's wr
Chapter 187Scarlett's pov A loud bell rang across the pack and I frowned as I wondered what it was for. Whenever the bell was rung it alerted everyone to gather in front of the pack house and I wondered what Silas wanted to talk to everyone about. My heart beat picked up as I recalled what had happened the last time that bell was rung. I closed my eyes as I tried to ward off all the negative memories that threatened to rise to the surface.Silas and I had already put all that behind us and I wasn't going to let the past torment me any longer.I got dressed and headed out of the pack house, along with all the other pack members and although I trusted Silas, I still felt a little reluctant to go to him and so I remained standing among the other pack members and I watched as Silas and Asher discussed something before Silas gave Asher a single nod and Asher walked away.Silas' eyes roamed across the crowd and for a second I wondered if he was searching for me. A part of me was hurt that
Chapter 186Scarlett's pov "Come on, it's been a while since we all went out together." Nora pouted as I put on my day dress."And Silas has been hoarding you like some precious treasure," she continued with a pout and I giggled."Maybe it is because I'm a precious treasure," I replied and she glared at me through the mirror."Don't you miss spending time with me? Or Asher or Aria or even Jasper?" She probbed and I sighed."You know you don't have to go through all these lengths to convince me to have a picnic with you right?" I pointed out and Nora shrugged."Here's the catch, I want you to bring Silas along." She revealed with a cheeky smile and I rolled my eyes."Silas has a lot of work he needs to catch up on," I informed her."But we are family and he has to have time for family." She probbed and I knew Nora wouldn't relent."Why can't you tell him to come yourself?" I asked and Nora shrugged."We all know you can get the job done faster so why stress it?" She pointed out and I
Chapter 185Scarlett's pov Wet kisses along my back roused me into consciousness and I moaned as a small smile made its way onto my lips."Silas I need to sleep," I pleaded with him as he turned me over and his lips claimed mine in a toe-curling kiss which had only one clear intent- to seduce. My hand grazed Silas' chest and I enjoyed the goosebumps that spread across his skin at my touch."I have an idea," he told me as he pulled away and I stared at him curiously."What is it?" I asked."Let's renew our mating rites," Silas announced and I immediately stiffened under him. I searched Silas's eyes wondering whether or not he was joking but he stared down at me with an entirely serious expression on his face."Are you serious?" I questioned and Silas quirked a brow at me."Definitely not the reaction I expected. Do I look like I'm joking?" He retorted and I remained silent. I could see the disappointment in Silas's eyes as he rolled away from me to his side of the bed."I wasn't aware
Chapter 184Scarlett's pov I shut the book in my hands in frustration with a huff as I had been rereading the same lines for the last fifteen minutes.I was unable to concentrate as guilt gnawed within me. After Silas had massaged my wrist, he calmly walked out of the room without another word to me. I knew he was still mad at me, but I was at a loss for what to do or say to make it all right. The truth was I knew exactly what I was doing and I had already made up my mind to see Anna even before I made that promise to Silas.A loud howl echoed into the night and instantly I knew that was Silas. I approached the window, and there he was, in his wolf form, looking right up at it. The moment our eyes met, he turned away and continued on his run and I had to admit, his dismissal stung.I made my way out of the pack house and in search of Silas. Finding him wasn't as hard as I had thought it would be and in no time, I sighted his magnificent brown wolf.Silas sensed me and turned in my di
Chapter 183Scarlett's pov I stared at the woman lying helplessly with chains binding her hands and her legs in shock. Anna looked nothing like she had the last time I had seen her, now her face was bruised and purple and I knew she had no doubt received a beating from the guards. Her clothes were dirty and matted with blood and she stared at me with menace in her eyes."What are you doing here? You came to gloat? You came to show me you won and I lost?" She spat out, and I was too shocked to form words; I tried to get a grip on myself."I didn't come here to gloat," I managed and she scoffed."Then what do you want from me? What are you doing here?" She asked and I sighed. Before I had stepped into this cell I had a million and one things I had rehearsed to tell Anna in my head but seeing her now, I couldn't remember any of them."Why?" I asked her and her lips twitched."Why what?" She inquired but somehow I knew she knew exactly what I was asking."Why was I your target, why was i
