LOGINChapter six
Silas' pov "What is the meaning of this?" My voice boomed loudly in my office as I glared at Nora but she stared back at me unperturbed. "The girl was injured, what did you expect them to do?" She retorted as she folded her arms in front of her chest. "That was not why they were sent out; they should have stick to the mission, " I grinned. "Really Silas? You taught them better than that, you taught all your pack members better than to leave someone who needs help for dead." Nora stared at me pointedly while I turned away from her. "You said she was a rogue," I reminded her with the quirk of my brow. "That doesn't make her less of a wolf, come on Silas." She called out to my back. "But we don't know her motive. This might be a setup...a plan to infiltrate our pack," I remind her. "And what if she's merely an innocent woman who needed help and was stranded?" She countered and I remained silent. "Have you treated her?" I asked after a moment. "Yes," Nora nodded. "Then she can be on her way once she's strong enough. I don't want her staying a second longer than necessary and I hope you stationed enough guards in front of her door, we can-" I began. "Can you just breathe Silas?" Nora cut me off as she rounded me till she was standing in front of me. My nostrils flared as my wolf growled within me but I remained silent. Only Nora, my little sister could talk to me in such a tone, interrupt me, and get away with it. "I'm not an amateur, I know how these things work. I stationed a guard in front of the room and I made it clear to her that if she tried any funny business she would be punished accordingly," Nora assured me and my eyes scanned her face and I sighed. "We both know you don't have a mean bone in your body to say any of those things Nora," I called her out on her bluff and she chuckled guiltily. "Alright you are right, I might not have put it in those exact words but I'm sure she got my point." She shrugged. Nora's eyes glazed over and I could tell she was thinking about something but I remained silent as I waited for her to come out with it. "There was something she said that was a bit weird though," Nora commented after a moment and my wolf was immediately on alert. "What did she say?" I asked as I shoved my hands into my pockets. "When she woke up she called me...by my name as though she knew me and she seemed shocked to see me and where she was," Nora explained and my eyes turned to slits. "She's a spy," I said without a moment of hesitation as I turned and made to head towards the door but Nora blocked me, stopping me in my tracks. "You can't just con-" She began. "How else can you explain her knowing your name?" I roared and Nora took a step back. "This is an insult to my pack, the least the rogues could do was send a competent spy rather than a novice." I let out a dry laugh. "Diana was also in the room and kept calling out to me, it's possible she simply heard her and pieced it together," Nora suggested and I squinted at her. "You don't even know her, why are you making excuses to keep her here?" I asked and Nora looked away from me. "I can't explain it," she began as she let out a deep sigh. "She seems familiar, like an old friend I'd forgotten about." She divulged and I remained silent as I waited for her to continue. "When her eyes opened and our gazes locked...I was sure I knew her and when she called my name..." She trailed off. "I know it doesn't make any sense but I don't know how else to explain it, Silas." She sighed as she rubbed her temples. "It's alright, you don't have to explain any more than you already have," I told her. "I know you don't trust rogues and neither do I Silas but she's different, don't ask me how I know...I just do." Nora said as she grabbed my hand with both of hers. "Just come look at her, speak to her for a second. You'll see she can't even hurt a fly and you might even see what I see in her." Nora continued before I could speak and as I stared down at her determined eyes I sighed because I knew I had already lost. "Fine-" I began and Nora squealed. "I'm not saying she can stay in the pack, I'm just agreeing to see and speak with her. I have to determine if she's a threat to this pack," I explained and some of Nora's excitement waned. "Nora I know you and I know what you are trying to do," I began and Nora furrowed her brows in confusion. "What are you talking about?" She asked. "You are bored and lonely, especially now that-" I cut myself off at the reminder of my dead mate. My heart still ached just thinking about her and I shut out all memories of her. "Never mind, let's go see this rogue." I gritted, annoyed by myself. "Silas, are you alright?" Nora asked and without looking at her I could tell she had on that sickening look of pity. "I know it's not-" she began but I pulled away from her, cutting her short. "I'm fine Nora, let's go," I muttered as I walked past her and out the door, the last thing I needed was a pep talk. My wolf howled within me, nudging and itching at me to head towards the borders but I ignored him. I had to see this rogue issue through before anything else.Chapter 76Scarlett's pov"Silas," I called out to him hesitantly as his hand remained between us.His deep brown eyes bore into mine and his gaze darted to my lips before they returned to my eyes. For a wild second I was sure I had heard him wrong yet his eyes gave me a glimpse into his thoughts."I'm not handing you over to the rogues," he announced as he pulled away and I blinked rapidly as I stared at him, walking back towards his table and taking his seat."What?" I asked dumbly as I tried to comprehend his words. Was he toying with me?"I said I'm not handing you over to the rogues," he repeated, and my eyes searched for him. But his face was pulled in its usual blank mask, making me wonder if I had really seen what I thought I saw."Thank you," I said, immediately hating how airy my voice sounded. I didn't want him to think he had some sort of effect on me."Can I ask what changed your mind?" I asked after a moment as I shuffled awkwardly on my feet."You want me to hand you ov
Chapter 75Scarlett's pov"Silas has asked to see us in his office," Nora announced as she stormed into my room but I didn't move from my place on my bed."Did you hear me Scar? Silas wants to see you," she tried again but all I gave her in return was a sniffle."Scar?" She called out to me as the bed dipped and I knew she was beside me."You can't keep crying all day," she murmured as she gently turned me till I was facing her. I dared say I could cry and that was exactly what I intended on doing till Silas handed me over to the rogues."You haven't moved an inch since last night and the only reason I let you be was because I felt you needed sometime to yourself but I'm not going to let you keep moping." Nora announced as she pulled my blanket off."Nora I really just want to stay in bed." I croaked out as I sat up and wrapped my arms around myself. If Silas was planning to hand me over to the rogues then he would have to drag me screaming and shouting out of this room."Silas wants
Chapter 74Silas' povI stared down at my feet as I walked. The cool evening breeze was doing nothing to soothe my raging mind.I let out a deep breath as I stopped in front of the garden and my eyes assessed the flowers which were in bloom. If Elara were here she would have known what to do...A rueful smile graced my lips as the image of Elara speaking to the flowers clouded my memory which was soon replaced by the image of Scarlett doing the same thing. At the thought of the rogue, my smile slipped off my face. I felt like I was losing my mind and I didn't even know what to do about it."Stare at that flower any longer, and I fear it will shrivel and die," a voice called out behind me. I turned to stare at Gary, who was approaching me with his walking stick. How hadn't I heard him approach?"Gary, what are you doing here?" I asked as he stopped directly beside me."Good day to you too Alpha," he retorted and I rolled my eyes at the old man's dramatics."Why are you here?" I asked t
Chapter 73Silas' povNora's angry gaze burned a hole into my head but I ignored her as I feigned busy and picked up one of the file from the numerous paperwork I had to do."I never thought you were really as dense as this Silas," Nora said, and my eyes snapped up to hers."Choose your words carefully Nora," I growled as my eyes flashed. Just because she was my sister didn't mean I would let her disrespect me in such a manner."No Silas, I won't. What will you do about it? Send me to the rogues as well?" She was goading me on, I knew it yet it still grated on my nerves."If you wish to be with the rogue so much then yes, I will," I replied as calmly as I could muster as I leaned back and stared up at her."Asher, can you think objectively for a moment please? Drop your stupid ego for a second and think about what you are about to do. Scarlett found a threat note in her room not too long ago after which she was attacked by rogues which doesn't seem like a coincidence and now they want
Chapter 72Silas' povA soft knock broke through my thoughts and I stopped pacing and turned to the door."Come in," I muttered. The door creaked open and Asher entered the room, pinning me with a hard stare."Have you been able to contact the rogues and let them know we are ready to trade the rogue?" I inquired, ignoring his eyes on me."No, I haven't." He replied calmly and my eyes narrowed at him."Why not?" I gritted out."I already told you, I'm not going to help you hand Scarlett over to the rogues. I don't know what's going on with you but you clearly aren't thinking clearly." He announced and anger bubbled within me."You are my beta, Asher," I reminded him."I am aware of that," he replied."You're the beta of the nightshade pack," I continued and he nodded as he folded his arms in front of his chest."I am also aware of that," he replied once more."You are choosing a rogue over your alpha and your pack which you pledged your allegiance to? You are defying my orders?" I aske
Chapter 71Scarlett's povTears blurred my vision as I stared at the door long after Silas had exited the room."He is the most aggravating person I have ever met," Nora announced in annoyance but I remained silent as my thoughts ran wild.If Silas handed me over to the rogues what would become of me? What would the rogues do to me?"Scarlett?" Nora called out to me but I was unable to look away from the door as my chest tightened and my breathing became shallow. The memories of the rogues dragging me away flashed through my mind and different voices rang through my ears.'Just hand over the vial Scarlett,''You can't let them get a hold of the vial,''The white wolves-' I covered my hands over my ears as the voices got louder until they were unbearable."Scarlett? Deep breaths," Nora's distant voice called out to me and I could feel her softly take one of my hands off my ears and place it against her heart.I felt the steady rhythmic beating of her heart against my hand."Let's take
