LOGINChapter six
Silas' pov "What is the meaning of this?" My voice boomed loudly in my office as I glared at Nora but she stared back at me unperturbed. "The girl was injured, what did you expect them to do?" She retorted as she folded her arms in front of her chest. "That was not why they were sent out; they should have stick to the mission, " I grinned. "Really Silas? You taught them better than that, you taught all your pack members better than to leave someone who needs help for dead." Nora stared at me pointedly while I turned away from her. "You said she was a rogue," I reminded her with the quirk of my brow. "That doesn't make her less of a wolf, come on Silas." She called out to my back. "But we don't know her motive. This might be a setup...a plan to infiltrate our pack," I remind her. "And what if she's merely an innocent woman who needed help and was stranded?" She countered and I remained silent. "Have you treated her?" I asked after a moment. "Yes," Nora nodded. "Then she can be on her way once she's strong enough. I don't want her staying a second longer than necessary and I hope you stationed enough guards in front of her door, we can-" I began. "Can you just breathe Silas?" Nora cut me off as she rounded me till she was standing in front of me. My nostrils flared as my wolf growled within me but I remained silent. Only Nora, my little sister could talk to me in such a tone, interrupt me, and get away with it. "I'm not an amateur, I know how these things work. I stationed a guard in front of the room and I made it clear to her that if she tried any funny business she would be punished accordingly," Nora assured me and my eyes scanned her face and I sighed. "We both know you don't have a mean bone in your body to say any of those things Nora," I called her out on her bluff and she chuckled guiltily. "Alright you are right, I might not have put it in those exact words but I'm sure she got my point." She shrugged. Nora's eyes glazed over and I could tell she was thinking about something but I remained silent as I waited for her to come out with it. "There was something she said that was a bit weird though," Nora commented after a moment and my wolf was immediately on alert. "What did she say?" I asked as I shoved my hands into my pockets. "When she woke up she called me...by my name as though she knew me and she seemed shocked to see me and where she was," Nora explained and my eyes turned to slits. "She's a spy," I said without a moment of hesitation as I turned and made to head towards the door but Nora blocked me, stopping me in my tracks. "You can't just con-" She began. "How else can you explain her knowing your name?" I roared and Nora took a step back. "This is an insult to my pack, the least the rogues could do was send a competent spy rather than a novice." I let out a dry laugh. "Diana was also in the room and kept calling out to me, it's possible she simply heard her and pieced it together," Nora suggested and I squinted at her. "You don't even know her, why are you making excuses to keep her here?" I asked and Nora looked away from me. "I can't explain it," she began as she let out a deep sigh. "She seems familiar, like an old friend I'd forgotten about." She divulged and I remained silent as I waited for her to continue. "When her eyes opened and our gazes locked...I was sure I knew her and when she called my name..." She trailed off. "I know it doesn't make any sense but I don't know how else to explain it, Silas." She sighed as she rubbed her temples. "It's alright, you don't have to explain any more than you already have," I told her. "I know you don't trust rogues and neither do I Silas but she's different, don't ask me how I know...I just do." Nora said as she grabbed my hand with both of hers. "Just come look at her, speak to her for a second. You'll see she can't even hurt a fly and you might even see what I see in her." Nora continued before I could speak and as I stared down at her determined eyes I sighed because I knew I had already lost. "Fine-" I began and Nora squealed. "I'm not saying she can stay in the pack, I'm just agreeing to see and speak with her. I have to determine if she's a threat to this pack," I explained and some of Nora's excitement waned. "Nora I know you and I know what you are trying to do," I began and Nora furrowed her brows in confusion. "What are you talking about?" She asked. "You are bored and lonely, especially now that-" I cut myself off at the reminder of my dead mate. My heart still ached just thinking about her and I shut out all memories of her. "Never mind, let's go see this rogue." I gritted, annoyed by myself. "Silas, are you alright?" Nora asked and without looking at her I could tell she had on that sickening look of pity. "I know it's not-" she began but I pulled away from her, cutting her short. "I'm fine Nora, let's go," I muttered as I walked past her and out the door, the last thing I needed was a pep talk. My wolf howled within me, nudging and itching at me to head towards the borders but I ignored him. I had to see this rogue issue through before anything else.Chapter 128Andrew's POVRick was helping me test some clothes for the upcoming festival and Vera was present because I had pleaded with her to be here. Because women do have a genuine opinion regarding issues such as this. And she was good at it. Maybe a little annoyed, too. She stood with her arms folded across her chest, leaning into the doorframe as she inspected my outfit as if I were in court."Very retro," she said finally, and for a moment, the tense shoulders on me eased."Aww, it's the festival theme." Rick interrupted gladly. We had a final verdict after a few costumes were turned down."It's retro and all that, but is it Alphaly enough?" I asked. Before Vera had time to respond, the door cracked open and Diana marched in without knocking. Her eyes swept past each one of us, then at Vera for a fleeting moment before concentrating on me finally. "I need to talk to you," she declared, her tone cold enough to cut through the air.Vera gazed at me with a raised eyebrow, and she
Chapter 127Lucy's POVPhil's question didn't go unnoticed. He had asked whether Vera was really innocent of our baby's murder. That question lingered in his mind for a reason—and I was about to find out why.I drove down to the physician's hospital. Ross would probably go bonkers seeing me after such a long time—and especially because he'd refused to schedule an appointment with me through his secretary. But I wasn't someone who took no for an answer. And my instincts tell me Mr Ross told Phil something about the fake pregnancy. I was uncertain. Still, it was best to—personally—remind him that I held the leash on his family and entire reputation. And any wrong move he tries to make would come with its consequences. My phone beeped. A message flashed from my reliable source keeping tabs on Ross’s daughter in college. And good news—Ross’s little girl was being watched carefully. A small smile spreads across my lips, satisfied to know I still have control over the physician. Finally, I
Chapter 126Scarlett's povI stifled a groan as the under of my feet hurt with every step we took.I stared down at Silas' hand intertwined with mine before my gaze moved up to his face and I noticed he had a small frown on his lips as he looked straight ahead.I wondered what he could be thinking but rather than ask, I remained silent by his side and tried to keep up with his pace."I think we should go see Gary before we return to the pack," I announced and Silas' eyes snapped to me."I want to share what I found with him and hear what he has to say," I explained and Silas nodded. We resumed walking in silence and I glimpsed that frown on Silas' lips once more, I couldn't help but wonder if he was already regretting what had happened between us and if he actually meant what he said about us figuring it out together.I was so lost in thought and barely looking in front of me until I tripped over a small rock and fell face forward.Silas's hand which was intertwined with mine pulled m
Chapter 125Silas' pov"Did your wolf really lead you to me?" Scarlett asked as she stared at me with wide eyes and I nodded."I went to the seer to find you and Jax was restless within me the whole time. Gary advised me to listen to my wolf and when I did he took control and led me straight to you," I revealed and Scarlett seemed shocked as she listened to me."Why did you come all the way here?" I asked as I looked around the burnt building when Scarlett remained silent."I don't have a wolf that I could say guided me," she began with a little shrug."But I just felt something nudging me this way and so I just kept on walking. I walked until I reached the front of the building and I instantly recognized it as the place in my dream. I'm sure Nora told you all about that," she said and I nodded."What happened while you were here? Why were you unconscious when I found you?" I probbed and Scarlett's lips turned downwards as she looked around."I don't know, I recalled some of my memori
Chapter 124Scarlett's povI slowly blinked into consciousness and the first thing I observed was Silas' steady heartbeat under my ear.I tried to move, but realized Silas' limbs were tangled with mine, and heat rose all the way to my cheeks as I recalled the events of the night, from the wee hours of the morning.Silas had been insatiable and truthfully, so had I. I was scared to let the magical night end; I was ready to return to my reality, where I couldn't have Silas. But the glorious sun slowly rose in the distance and shone on us through the window.A tear slid down my cheek and fell onto Silas' chest as I knew it was over, whatever this had been was over and now Silas and I had to return to our respective lives.Silas groaned beneath me as he slowly came through and his arm tightened around my waist Before I could comprehend what was happening he flipped me over and hovered above me while my back was on the floor."Good morning," I muttered shyly as I struggled to look anywhere
Chapter 123Scarlett's povSilas took a slow step towards me and every instinct in me was urging me to take one back and create some much-needed distance between us but I ignored it and stood my ground until Silas was merely a hairsbreadth away from me."Do you have any idea how worried Nora was about you? How worried was I about you?" He growled out and my heart dropped. That had not been what I had been expecting him to say, at all."Could you possibly imagine the torment I was under not knowing if you were alright or if the rogues had captured you?" He asked and I opened my mouth to speak but his sharp eyes warned me off."How could you be so selfish and foolish?" He growled and my nostrils flared."I wasn't foolish, I was-" I began to defend myself but Silas wrapped his arm around my waist and drew me closer to him, effectively shutting me up."Sil-" I tried again but this time he shut me up with his lips which descended onto mine in a bruising kiss.I groaned under the pressure o
