Mag-log inChapter four
Scarlett's pov The leaves crunched under my feet and my breath came out in huffs as I ran but I didn't dare look back. I heard their voices behind me and for a moment I felt as though I was reliving the dream I had just woken up from, only this was no dream and I knew whoever those people were, they were intent on killing me. "Secure the perimeter, don't let her get away." A voice boomed loudly and my heart dropped. Did I have a chance at escaping when I was so obviously outnumbered? A part of me wondered how the men would react if I explained to them I wasn't Scarlett or whatever they called me but I knew it would be a futile argument since they would merely look at me like I was mad and trying to play a trick on them. I heard the oft-flowing water near and a crazy idea popped into my mind. "Well I have nothing to lose," I commented as I turned in the direction from where I heard the water. "Gotcha," a voice called out to me seconds before I was rammed into. I groaned as I rolled on the floor and hit a tree. I tried to rise but my whole body ached from the impact, I heard slow unhurried footsteps approaching me and I slowly looked up. "Scarlett..." The man with the green eyes who seemed to be their leader walked towards me slowly. One side of his face was wrinkled and burned and looked stiff and dry under the sun. "I've been through a lot to get you Scarlett and you are going to pay for every penny and all the stress you've put me through," he announced as he squatted in front of me. I inched away from him, my eyes darting around as I looked for an escape route but the other wolves growled at me. "You are surrounded Scarlett, nowhere left to go," The man gave me an eerie smile and my heart beat rapidly in my chest. Why would the moon goddess give me another life if she knew I wouldn't even survive for a complete day in the body? "Now I would love nothing more than to kill you and just end you right here but for some reason, the alpha needs you and he has given explicit commands to have you brought back alive," the man continued and the more I stared at him, the more I was certain he seemed familiar and somehow I knew him. "Cat got your tongue, Scarlett? That's unusual, you normally have a lot to say." He chuckled and the men beside him joined in. "What do you want from me?" I asked as calmly as I could muster and I watched as the man furrowed his brows for a second before anger simmered within his eyes. "You bitch," he snapped right before he smacked me across the face. Tears stung my eyes as I clutched my face from the impact. "You want to play dumb with me Scarlett? That's what we are doing now?" The man chuckled dryly. "I don't have time for games so you can either come with me voluntarily and save us all the stress of having to beat you within half an inch of your life before dragging your bloodied body back with us, although I would like nothing more than that," the man told me slowly. I scrambled within my mind as I thought of a way to escape but I knew my chances were too nonexistent. "Fine, I'll go with you," I announced and it was clear from the look of disappointment on the man's face, he had expected me to put up a fight. "You seem out of sorts today Scarlett which is disappointing since I was hoping for a little bit of action," The man shook his head as he took a small step back, giving me room to rise. From this man's words, he kept hinting that Scarlett...who was now me, had a fighting spirit and was one to put up a fight. Who exactly was she and why were these men after her? I slowly rose to my feet and I could see the wolves were on high alert as they were waiting for me to strike or bolt at any second. "Let's go, we have a long journey ahead of us, and don't try anything funny or I won't hesitate to kill you," the man threatened but I knew he was bluffing. He said his alpha needed me for something and I knew he wouldn't want to face his wrath because he killed me so at least for now I was somewhat safe. We walked through the forest but on a different route than the one we came through. The farther we walked, the more I could hear the sound of the flowing water. It seemed we were headed in the direction of the water and I discreetly looked at the men around me who chatted among themselves. From a distance, I saw the sparkling blue water and to my left, I saw what seemed like a small cliff. My heart beat rapidly within me as I mentally prepared myself for what I was about to do. On the count of three...one, two- "You know Scar-" the scarred man began as I fisted my hand and delivered a punch square into the face of one of the wolves and bolted before any of them could recover from the shock. Behind me, I heard the man howl in pain while others were hot on my heels. I approached the cliff as I felt the wolves drawing nearer and I didn't dare stop. "It's a dead end, Scarlett, you are going to die if you jump," the man called out to me but I ignored him as I reached the end of the cliff and with a shaky breath I jumped.Chapter 76Scarlett's pov"Silas," I called out to him hesitantly as his hand remained between us.His deep brown eyes bore into mine and his gaze darted to my lips before they returned to my eyes. For a wild second I was sure I had heard him wrong yet his eyes gave me a glimpse into his thoughts."I'm not handing you over to the rogues," he announced as he pulled away and I blinked rapidly as I stared at him, walking back towards his table and taking his seat."What?" I asked dumbly as I tried to comprehend his words. Was he toying with me?"I said I'm not handing you over to the rogues," he repeated, and my eyes searched for him. But his face was pulled in its usual blank mask, making me wonder if I had really seen what I thought I saw."Thank you," I said, immediately hating how airy my voice sounded. I didn't want him to think he had some sort of effect on me."Can I ask what changed your mind?" I asked after a moment as I shuffled awkwardly on my feet."You want me to hand you ov
Chapter 75Scarlett's pov"Silas has asked to see us in his office," Nora announced as she stormed into my room but I didn't move from my place on my bed."Did you hear me Scar? Silas wants to see you," she tried again but all I gave her in return was a sniffle."Scar?" She called out to me as the bed dipped and I knew she was beside me."You can't keep crying all day," she murmured as she gently turned me till I was facing her. I dared say I could cry and that was exactly what I intended on doing till Silas handed me over to the rogues."You haven't moved an inch since last night and the only reason I let you be was because I felt you needed sometime to yourself but I'm not going to let you keep moping." Nora announced as she pulled my blanket off."Nora I really just want to stay in bed." I croaked out as I sat up and wrapped my arms around myself. If Silas was planning to hand me over to the rogues then he would have to drag me screaming and shouting out of this room."Silas wants
Chapter 74Silas' povI stared down at my feet as I walked. The cool evening breeze was doing nothing to soothe my raging mind.I let out a deep breath as I stopped in front of the garden and my eyes assessed the flowers which were in bloom. If Elara were here she would have known what to do...A rueful smile graced my lips as the image of Elara speaking to the flowers clouded my memory which was soon replaced by the image of Scarlett doing the same thing. At the thought of the rogue, my smile slipped off my face. I felt like I was losing my mind and I didn't even know what to do about it."Stare at that flower any longer, and I fear it will shrivel and die," a voice called out behind me. I turned to stare at Gary, who was approaching me with his walking stick. How hadn't I heard him approach?"Gary, what are you doing here?" I asked as he stopped directly beside me."Good day to you too Alpha," he retorted and I rolled my eyes at the old man's dramatics."Why are you here?" I asked t
Chapter 73Silas' povNora's angry gaze burned a hole into my head but I ignored her as I feigned busy and picked up one of the file from the numerous paperwork I had to do."I never thought you were really as dense as this Silas," Nora said, and my eyes snapped up to hers."Choose your words carefully Nora," I growled as my eyes flashed. Just because she was my sister didn't mean I would let her disrespect me in such a manner."No Silas, I won't. What will you do about it? Send me to the rogues as well?" She was goading me on, I knew it yet it still grated on my nerves."If you wish to be with the rogue so much then yes, I will," I replied as calmly as I could muster as I leaned back and stared up at her."Asher, can you think objectively for a moment please? Drop your stupid ego for a second and think about what you are about to do. Scarlett found a threat note in her room not too long ago after which she was attacked by rogues which doesn't seem like a coincidence and now they want
Chapter 72Silas' povA soft knock broke through my thoughts and I stopped pacing and turned to the door."Come in," I muttered. The door creaked open and Asher entered the room, pinning me with a hard stare."Have you been able to contact the rogues and let them know we are ready to trade the rogue?" I inquired, ignoring his eyes on me."No, I haven't." He replied calmly and my eyes narrowed at him."Why not?" I gritted out."I already told you, I'm not going to help you hand Scarlett over to the rogues. I don't know what's going on with you but you clearly aren't thinking clearly." He announced and anger bubbled within me."You are my beta, Asher," I reminded him."I am aware of that," he replied."You're the beta of the nightshade pack," I continued and he nodded as he folded his arms in front of his chest."I am also aware of that," he replied once more."You are choosing a rogue over your alpha and your pack which you pledged your allegiance to? You are defying my orders?" I aske
Chapter 71Scarlett's povTears blurred my vision as I stared at the door long after Silas had exited the room."He is the most aggravating person I have ever met," Nora announced in annoyance but I remained silent as my thoughts ran wild.If Silas handed me over to the rogues what would become of me? What would the rogues do to me?"Scarlett?" Nora called out to me but I was unable to look away from the door as my chest tightened and my breathing became shallow. The memories of the rogues dragging me away flashed through my mind and different voices rang through my ears.'Just hand over the vial Scarlett,''You can't let them get a hold of the vial,''The white wolves-' I covered my hands over my ears as the voices got louder until they were unbearable."Scarlett? Deep breaths," Nora's distant voice called out to me and I could feel her softly take one of my hands off my ears and place it against her heart.I felt the steady rhythmic beating of her heart against my hand."Let's take
