LOGINChapter four
Scarlett's pov The leaves crunched under my feet and my breath came out in huffs as I ran but I didn't dare look back. I heard their voices behind me and for a moment I felt as though I was reliving the dream I had just woken up from, only this was no dream and I knew whoever those people were, they were intent on killing me. "Secure the perimeter, don't let her get away." A voice boomed loudly and my heart dropped. Did I have a chance at escaping when I was so obviously outnumbered? A part of me wondered how the men would react if I explained to them I wasn't Scarlett or whatever they called me but I knew it would be a futile argument since they would merely look at me like I was mad and trying to play a trick on them. I heard the oft-flowing water near and a crazy idea popped into my mind. "Well I have nothing to lose," I commented as I turned in the direction from where I heard the water. "Gotcha," a voice called out to me seconds before I was rammed into. I groaned as I rolled on the floor and hit a tree. I tried to rise but my whole body ached from the impact, I heard slow unhurried footsteps approaching me and I slowly looked up. "Scarlett..." The man with the green eyes who seemed to be their leader walked towards me slowly. One side of his face was wrinkled and burned and looked stiff and dry under the sun. "I've been through a lot to get you Scarlett and you are going to pay for every penny and all the stress you've put me through," he announced as he squatted in front of me. I inched away from him, my eyes darting around as I looked for an escape route but the other wolves growled at me. "You are surrounded Scarlett, nowhere left to go," The man gave me an eerie smile and my heart beat rapidly in my chest. Why would the moon goddess give me another life if she knew I wouldn't even survive for a complete day in the body? "Now I would love nothing more than to kill you and just end you right here but for some reason, the alpha needs you and he has given explicit commands to have you brought back alive," the man continued and the more I stared at him, the more I was certain he seemed familiar and somehow I knew him. "Cat got your tongue, Scarlett? That's unusual, you normally have a lot to say." He chuckled and the men beside him joined in. "What do you want from me?" I asked as calmly as I could muster and I watched as the man furrowed his brows for a second before anger simmered within his eyes. "You bitch," he snapped right before he smacked me across the face. Tears stung my eyes as I clutched my face from the impact. "You want to play dumb with me Scarlett? That's what we are doing now?" The man chuckled dryly. "I don't have time for games so you can either come with me voluntarily and save us all the stress of having to beat you within half an inch of your life before dragging your bloodied body back with us, although I would like nothing more than that," the man told me slowly. I scrambled within my mind as I thought of a way to escape but I knew my chances were too nonexistent. "Fine, I'll go with you," I announced and it was clear from the look of disappointment on the man's face, he had expected me to put up a fight. "You seem out of sorts today Scarlett which is disappointing since I was hoping for a little bit of action," The man shook his head as he took a small step back, giving me room to rise. From this man's words, he kept hinting that Scarlett...who was now me, had a fighting spirit and was one to put up a fight. Who exactly was she and why were these men after her? I slowly rose to my feet and I could see the wolves were on high alert as they were waiting for me to strike or bolt at any second. "Let's go, we have a long journey ahead of us, and don't try anything funny or I won't hesitate to kill you," the man threatened but I knew he was bluffing. He said his alpha needed me for something and I knew he wouldn't want to face his wrath because he killed me so at least for now I was somewhat safe. We walked through the forest but on a different route than the one we came through. The farther we walked, the more I could hear the sound of the flowing water. It seemed we were headed in the direction of the water and I discreetly looked at the men around me who chatted among themselves. From a distance, I saw the sparkling blue water and to my left, I saw what seemed like a small cliff. My heart beat rapidly within me as I mentally prepared myself for what I was about to do. On the count of three...one, two- "You know Scar-" the scarred man began as I fisted my hand and delivered a punch square into the face of one of the wolves and bolted before any of them could recover from the shock. Behind me, I heard the man howl in pain while others were hot on my heels. I approached the cliff as I felt the wolves drawing nearer and I didn't dare stop. "It's a dead end, Scarlett, you are going to die if you jump," the man called out to me but I ignored him as I reached the end of the cliff and with a shaky breath I jumped.Chapter 137Scarlett's povI snatched my hand back and glared at Asher who had a similar fire in his eyes."What do you think you are doing?" I gritted out as he approached me slowly."You aren't going to get away with a lame excuse Scarlett. Why are you so interested in Elara's death and most especially why are you interested in whatever I said about her after she died?" Asher inquired."What does it matter to you? Are you scared I'll uncover the truth and find out what you did?" I asked but Asher's brows creased as he stared at me."What are you talking about?" He questioned and I scoffed in disbelief."You don't have to pretend with me Asher, I saw the note in the library," I announced as I watched his face closely but his expression never changed."I pushed Silas to embrace his feelings for you but it seems I was wrong about you. What is your motive? Why did you come to this pack?" Asher asked and my nostrils flared."Really Asher? You would rather try to turn the tables on me tha
Chapter 136Scarlett's povA note slipped from the book and my brows furrowed as I bent and picked it up. What was it with the library and harbouring secret notes?I shook my head as I unfolded the note and scanned its contents. My lips parted in shock as I read the note till the end. I scanned the back of the note but there was no sender address but it was addressed to...Asher.Just as I had been suspecting Asher had a hand in my framing and death. The letter showed that this was merely a reply to whatever Asher had sent the other person. Just as I had thought whoever did this wasn't working alone.I clutched onto the note tightly as I tried to make sense of what was on the piece of paper.'The Luna has been executed as planned Beta, the only thing left now is the disposal of Alpha Silas.' the note simply read and it didn't take a genius to know who the 'beta' was...The library door pushed open and I quickly hid the note in my pocket just as Aria strolled into the room."Scarlett, a
Chapter 135Silas' povA small smile made its way onto my lips as I took a spoon from the vanilla cake Scarlett had brought me.My blood rushed south as I recalled how Scarlett had blushed prettily and how she had looked like she was about to melt on the spot when Asher came in.A part of me understood why she wanted to keep our relationship under wraps for now. Still, the larger part of me wanted to be able to touch her freely whenever I pleased and not get embarrassed if we were caught in a compromising situation.A knock broke through my thoughts and I called out to whoever it was to come in.Asher made his way into my office with a smirk planted on his lips.He cleared his throat as he took a seat in front of me and I wanted to wipe off the smug grin on his lips."Well that was definitely an interesting sight," Asher commented and I growled."When did this happen? Before you left to go and find her or after?" He probbed and I knew he was taking immense pleasure from this."Why did
Chapter 134Scarlett's povI bit my lips as I stared down at the cake I had baked for Silas. It was still a bit early so I decided to wait so I wouldn't seem overeager but I did want to see him as soon as possible, especially since he hadn't come to my room last night and I had shamefully waited up for him.I pushed the disappointment I had felt aside as I picked up the cake and headed towards his office.I gulped as I knocked and when his gruff reply came from the other side of the door, I made my way into the room."Good morning," I mumbled as I paced the cake in front of Silas and he stared from it to me."I brought you a little something," I bit my lip as I shuffled awkwardly on my feet.Silas's lips stretched into a wide grin and he rose from his chair and approached me.His arms circled my waist and he drew me to him."You didn't have to," he muttered as his head rested in the crook of my neck and he inhaled deeply."Did you just sniff me?" I asked through giggles and I could fe
Chapter 133 Scarlett's pov "How do you know so much about wolves?" Silas asked Japer just as the pates for dessert were being cleared. "I had some friends when I was younger, they attended the same high school as I did but I noticed there was something different about them, and one day I just saw them change into their wolf forms." Jasper began after he cleared his throat. "As you can imagine I was terrified and dashed away in a mad run but they chased after me and I was so sure they were going to kill me. I tried to over some log and they surrounded me, leaving me nowhere else to run and I begged them not to kill me as they changed back to humans." He continued while everyone listened with rapt attention. "I can't imagine how scary that must have been for you," Aria commented and Nora growled lowly and all eyes turned to her. "I umh... I was thinking the same thing," Nora offered lamely as she cleared her throat and her eyes met mine across the table and I quirked a questioning
Chapter 132 Scarlett's pov I walked into the dining room and took my seat seconds before Silas walked into the room and everyone at the table rose. Asher and Aria were also present and I couldn't help but recall my suspicions of Asher before I had left the pack. That was something I would have to look into now that I was back. Silas walked to the head of the table and his gaze was fastened on the human beside Nora. The man was surprisingly not what I had pictured in my head, he was tall with a solid frame and curly hair. I had to admit I was a bit worried before but seeing him now he looked pretty capable of taking care of Nora and giving her all she deserved. "Everyone this is Jasper, my mate," Nora announced as she held onto his arm before she pointed and introduced each of us to him. "I'm glad you welcomed me into your pack alpha, I'm honoured," Jasper told Silas who merely stared at him with a blank expression. "I barely had a choice," Silas finally said as we took our seat
